The corporate art style, as it's been colloquially labeled, has become much maligned recently. It's characterized by amorphous, multi-colored people whose bodies are in motion, always smiling, and usually seen using technology.
What just seemed to be ugly at first, also has a latent ideological meaning. In fact, the latent ideological meaning is its biggest characteristic, explaining its ubiquity. Because the "corporate art style", actually, has metastasized beyond large corporations, to become the dominant art style of every mass organization in the Western world and beyond. Churches, political organizations, schools, government offices, etc.
Its meaning? Ideological conformity to the project of global technological progress no matter where you from, what sex, or sexual orientation.

Top Chart: Over the past +50 years, the inversions of the 50 day SMA of the 10 year treasury rates minus the 50 day SMA of the 3 month treasury rates have all preceded the start of a U.S. recession (there have been no false indicators or exceptions to this rule). The 8 recessions that occurred over the last half a century have started within an average of 12.18 months from the first day that their 50 day SMA inversions began).
Bottom Chart: Probability distribution showing the positions of the last 8 recessions (over a +50 yr. period) superimposed on the curve with each recession's position based on the time from the first day of their respective (10 Yr. minus 3 Mo.) 50 day SMA inversions to the first day of the start of their corresponding recessions. Normal distibution used as best fit with a mean of 12.18 months and a standard deviation of 4.61 months. The current position on the probability curve is denoted by the sliding red vertical arrow starting from time zero (1st day of the latest 50 day SMA inversion) and moving rightwards as time proceeds. Prediction of a 57% probability that a recession will have started on or before late December 2023 and a greater than 95% probability that a recession will have started on or before late July 2024.

This article describes how plastics are mixing with sediment and fishing nets to form these “plastic rocks.” From the article-
“TRINDADE ISLAND, Brazil, March 15 (Reuters) - The geology of Brazil's volcanic Trindade Island has fascinated scientists for years, but the discovery of rocks made from plastic debris in this remote turtle refuge is sparking alarm.
Melted plastic has become intertwined with rocks on the island, located 1,140 km (708 miles) from the southeastern state of Espirito Santo, which researchers say is evidence of humans' growing influence over the earth's geological cycles.”
I feel ignorant but I didn’t really know the extent to which the fishing industry is harmful to the earth. I am aware of overfishing but did not realize how bad it has gotten. The fact that there are new rocks combined of random plastics on remote islands is a very worrying sign. I wonder how many geologic and environmental impacts there are related to this that we do not know about yet.

From the article:
Poland on Thursday pledged it would send four MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, the first NATO member to do so, in a significant move in Kyiv’s battle to resist Russia’s onslaught.
President Andrzej Duda said the planes – from about a dozen that it had inherited from the former German Democratic Republic – would be handed over in the coming days after being serviced.
“When it comes to the MiG-29 aircraft, which are still operating in the defense of Polish airspace, a decision has been taken at the highest levels, we can say confidently that we are sending MiGs to Ukraine,” Duda said.
Warsaw has taken a lead among NATO allies in supplying Kyiv with heavy weapons. The announcement that Poland will send the Soviet-designed planes marks a break from the alliance, and could put pressure on other member states to do the same. Other NATO nations have been reluctant to move far beyond a decision earlier this year to send tanks to Kyiv, and the US insisted Thursday that Poland’s move would not force Washington’s hand.
Speaking at a news conference in Warsaw with his new Czech counterpart Petr Pavel, the Polish president expressed the two countries’ joint backing for Kyiv.
“The Czech Republic and Poland are countries that are in the absolute vanguard when it comes to supporting Ukraine, both at humanitarian and military levels,” President Duda said.
**...The biggest question will be if it puts pressure on the United Kingdom and the United States, which will then do the same for Germany. Ultimately, creating this pressure on other allies was probably Poland’s intention.**

This is collapse related because the war is escalating and drawing more parties on both sides into it.
It's almost like history is repeating itself right now. Banks are collapsing and being bailed out, inflation is getting out of control (globally) and we are heading towards hyper inflation or letting the banks fail. Could we be walking into another great recession / depression followed by world war?
Compounding to these problems is climate change which we did not have to deal with in prior crisis times. I fear WW3 is coming and faster than expected.

This heralds collapse because it heralds World War 3. The two superpowers are locked in a cycle of escalation with no way out, becoming more and more antagonistic. Even if there isn't war, the world's economy becoming divided because of a conflict between two powerful leviathans is bad news for the average human: it means goods will become more expensive, less available, and overall wealth will go down as co-operation does.

I'm here looking for information on a possible domino effect with the closing of the Silicon Valley bank?Im trying to read and understand what happened and am wondering if I should also be in line for my savings. I'm under the 250k fdic insured amount by a long shot but if banks behind to collapse I have to assume I'd be in a better position with my cash in hand. Anyone understand a good bit of economics to reassure us that the federal reserve won't be shutting down more banks?

SS: B.F. Skinner and Stanley Milgram would have a field day with this story.
It reveals a worker so thoroughly conditioned by their training, that they entirely set aside their humanity, insisting on payment before helping officials locate a kidnapped child.
It also shows a level of economic stress and fear of bureaucracy on the part of the police officer, who takes 30 minutes to come up with a credit card number to cover a $150 charge.
By evolutionary design, our basic human instinct is to protect a toddler at all costs. But in this moment, the societal pressures of a fear of being fired, strict adherence to bureaucratic procedure, and fear of losing a relatively small amount of money (at the corporate and personal level) nearly cost a small child his life.
The bureaucratic conditioning and obedience to authority took precedence over saving a kidnapped child. This brainwashing is a symptom of our disease.
What have we become.
Edit: And oh. Yeah. Somebody was so permanently disconnected from his own humanity that he thought it was fine to run over a pregnant woman, so he could get cash he desperately wanted.

SUBMISSION STATEMENT: Related to collapse because…
A remarkable decay in our ability to store and manage dangerous chemicals. Unclear if related to unmitigated greed leading to failure to maintain, Economic difficulty leading to poor maintenance, Sabotage by foreign adversaries, lack of regulatory oversight, or supply chain issues in obtaining necessary parts and materials.
Also unclear is how aware local communities are of these incidents or what dangers they may pose locally or systemically as they go into atmosphere and waterways.

Submission statement: the world is going to end for everyone, but sooner for some and later for others. There's inequality even in societal collapse. The countries with the highest carbon footprint, who are killing the planet faster, are the ones that will be least affected (directly) by the destruction they create. The third world, after being pillaged for centuries of colonialism, will now suffer the brunt of climate change, even as they're not the ones reaping the benefits of ecological overshoot.

About 20 rail cars were reported to have been carrying hazardous materials which have been spilled in Ohio. Chemicals including vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ethers were “known to have been and continue to be” released to the air, surface soil and surface waters, the E.P.A. said.
The white house has stated there are no real concerns but I don't understand how releasing this much material into the air, land, and water can be "okay".

SS: A doctor in the US has just gotten word that a passanger of a flight from Hong Kong to Houston has contracted Bird Flu, if it is human to human, then this is a repeat of 2020 and it'll be the start of another pandemic, perhabs worst than the last one.
It's related to collapse because if this ends up being a worse pandemic than COVID, and if it leads to another shutdown- we'll see far more deaths, either from the flu or from arising violence against shutdowns. which COULD (i'm not saying will) lead to collapse.

We are headed for an apokalupsis.
This is not the end of the world: This is the uncovering, the realization that our world ended long ago.
Collapse is the uncovering. Our world falls apart when people realise it has fallen apart. But it is healthy to realise this, because it means we can get started with a new one.

Full article:
As the world is just beginning to recover from the devastation of Covid-19, it is facing the possibility of a pandemic of a far more deadly pathogen.
Bird flu — known more formally as avian influenza — has long hovered on the horizons of scientists’ fears. This pathogen, especially the H5N1 strain, hasn’t often infected humans, but when it has, 56 percent of those known to have contracted it have died. Its inability to spread easily, if at all, from one person to another has kept it from causing a pandemic.
But things are changing. The virus, which has long caused outbreaks among poultry, is infecting more and more migratory birds, allowing it to spread more widely, even to various mammals, raising the risk that a new variant could spread to and among people.
Alarmingly, it was recently reported that a mutant H5N1 strain was not only infecting minks at a fur farm in Spain but also most likely spreading among them, unprecedented among mammals. Even worse, the mink’s upper respiratory tract is exceptionally well suited to act as a conduit to humans, Thomas Peacock, a virologist who has studied avian influenza, told me.
The world needs to act now, before H5N1 has any chance of becoming a devastating pandemic.
We have many of the tools that are needed, including vaccines. What’s missing is a sense of urgency and immediate action.
The best defense against a new deadly pathogen is aggressively suppressing early outbreaks, which first requires detecting them quickly. The United States, the World Health Organization and global health officials already have influenza surveillance networks, but many avian influenza experts told me they don’t think the networks are functioning well enough given the threat level. Such surveillance would need to prioritize people in the poultry industry but also expand beyond that.
Thijs Kuiken, an expert in avian influenza at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, says farms for pigs — another species susceptible to influenza — should also be surveilled for bird flu. People interacting with wild birds and animals, as well as susceptible species of pets like ferrets, are also at higher risk. It’s not enough to detect, though: Suppression would require a major effort and global coordination.
Unfortunately, mink farms must be shut down — even if it means killing the minks. They are typically killed anyway for their fur at about 6 months of age. It’s hard to imagine a better way to incubate and spread a deadly virus than letting it evolve among tens of thousands of animals with an upper respiratory tract similar to ours crowded together. When the coronavirus infected Danish mink farms in 2020 and the minks generated new variants that then infected humans, the efforts to save the industry were futile because the outbreaks were uncontrollable.
If different strains of flu have infected the same person simultaneously, the strains can swap gene segments and give rise to new, more transmissible ones. If a mink farmworker with the flu also gets infected by H5N1, that may be all it takes to ignite a pandemic.
To avoid this, quick testing should be widely available and easy to obtain globally, especially for poultry workers and people handling wild birds or other wildlife. And current testing capabilities should be quickly expanded. There are 91 public health labs in the United States that can test for H5 influenza. Positive results are sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where further analyses can detect H5N1 within about 48 hours. But plans should be in place to increase the amount of tests and testing facilities in case demand ramps up.
Perhaps the best news is that we have several H5N1 vaccines already approved by the Food and Drug Administration whose safety and immune response have been studied.
The U.S. government has a small H5N1 vaccine stockpile, but it would be nowhere near enough if a serious outbreak occurred. The current plan is to mass-produce them if and when such an outbreak occurs, based on the particular variant involved.
There are several problems, though, with this approach even under the best-case scenarios. Producing hundreds of millions of doses of a new vaccine could take six months or more.
Worryingly, all but one of the approved vaccines are produced by incubating each dose in an egg. The U.S. government keeps hundreds of thousands of chickens in secret farms with bodyguards. (It’s true!) But the bodyguards are presumably there to fend off terror attacks, not a virus. Relying on chickens to produce vaccines against a virus that has a 90 percent to 100 percent fatality rate among poultry has the makings of the most unfunny which-came-first, the-chicken-or-the-egg riddle.
The only company with an F.D.A.-approved non-egg-based H5N1 vaccine expects to be able to produce 150 million doses within six months of the declaration of a pandemic. But there are seven billion people in the world.
The mRNA-based platforms used to make two of the Covid vaccines also don’t depend on eggs. Scott Hensley, an influenza expert at the University of Pennsylvania, told me that those vaccines can be mass-produced faster, in as little as three months. There are currently no approved mRNA vaccines for influenza, but efforts to make one should be expedited.
If the W.H.O. is to take the lead in expanding global vaccine manufacturing, it needs the support of wealthy countries and the cooperation of large pharmaceutical companies that have the patents and know-how.
A big challenge to stockpiling flu vaccines is that they can lose potency over time and need updating as new variants arise. The U.S. government is skeptical about creating a large stockpile, fearing that stored vaccines may not be effective against whatever strain became pandemic, and worries that stockpiles will expire anyway. Officials also have faith that they can get new flu vaccines mass-produced rapidly.
Many influenza experts told me that older vaccines could still provide some protection against severe outcomes or death. Peter Palese, a professor of microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, who established the first genetic maps for influenza A, B and C viruses, told me that such stockpiles would be especially useful for essential workers.
In 2017, the C.D.C. found that the H5N1 vaccine made in 2004 and 2005 helped protect ferrets against an H5N2 virus in 2014. Investigations in 2006 showed that 80 percent of the U.S. stockpile of earlier H5N1 vaccines were still potent a full year after their expected one-year shelf life had passed. In 2019, another study found that H5N1 vaccines produced as early as 2004 were still potent a full 12 years later.

New York investors snapping up Colorado River water rights, betting big on an increasingly scarce resource."These are folks that have identified the drought as an opportunity to make money,"
With the federal government poised to force Western states to change how they manage the alarming shortfall in Colorado River water, there is one constituency with a growing interest in the river's fate that's little known to some: Wall Street investors.
Private investment firms are showing a growing interest in an increasingly scarce natural resource in the American West: water in the Colorado River, a joint investigation by CBS News and The Weather Channel has found. For some of the farmers and cities that depend on the river as a lifeline, that interest is concerning.
"Our only source of water is the Colorado," says Joe Bernal, who raises cattle and grows crops on land across Colorado's Grand Valley, relying on water from the drought-depleted Colorado River.

But now, he has a new neighbor: a New York-based investment firm called Water Asset Management, which he says bought a farm in the valley around 2017 that Bernal now rents and helps operate.
According to public records, the hedge fund — which is headquartered on Madison Avenue in Manhattan — has bought at least $20 million worth of land in Western Colorado in the last five years, making it one of the largest landowners in the Grand Valley.
The hedge fund, founded in 2005, says it invests exclusively in assets and companies that ensure water supply and quality. In 2021, its co-founder and president, Matthew Diserio, called water in the United States "a trillion-dollar market opportunity."
Bernal says that when first heard of the firm, he was concerned.

The model expects that in the next 10 years, temperatures are likely to rise by at least 1.5C over industrial levels, as well as a 50% chance that a 2C increase will be experienced before 2050.
To test its accuracy, the researchers also entered historical data and asked the model to evaluate the current levels of warming. With data from 1980 to 2021, the AI was able to accurately identify both the 1.1 degree Celsius increase observed by 2022 and the patterns and speed of warming seen in recent years.

The increasing capability of AI tools like ChatGPT to write prose has made the technology a tempting prospect for media companies hurt by falling advertising rates. BuzzFeed, in particular, has had a rocky ride on the markets since going public.
Not only will it start to replace countless jobs over the coming years, but will probably be built in a manor where algorithms can be used to push certain narratives a certain direction that could contribute considerably to further division accross the world.

Climate change, or global heating, is almost certainly happening, and it is almost certainly caused by man-made activities, specifically our prolific production of carbon dioxide, although even if neither of these statements is true, it doesn’t matter because our civilisation is still doomed, for the same reason that every civilisation is doomed; we have outrun our resource base.

When Will We Collapse? Prediction 1 It is difficult to define what constitutes a "collapse," but perhaps it could be understood as a global decrease in life expectancy for five consecutive years, excluding any odd causes like a new pandemic, unrelated to collapse.
When do you believe this collapse will commence? If you are unable to pinpoint a specific year, please provide a range of years within a 5 year timespan, such as "2050-2055." I will use the midpoint of this range as the prediction.
I'm going to keep track of the average between everyone's answers by asking this question on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and see how it changes as things progress. Thank you and remember, don't watch in despair, watch with popcorn.

Just kind of venting and asking an open ended question about what the .1% are working towardsThey have enough wealth to last. I don’t even know. Thousands and thousands of years/generations? When is the greed going to end or finally be stopped?
At the rate we’re going, we’re going to be a third world country. Nobody is going to have a roof over their heads, or food, or healthcare… what’s their plan then? Who do they expect to run their businesses? Surely not company executives. So they’re hoarding all this wealth from the working class just so they can..eliminate them? What a stupid plan.
And don’t get me started on climate change. Burning the planet so they can make more money… what for? We’re all gonna be dead. No one is going to be living on mars. There is no where else for humans to go. So I ask, again, what is their plan? Or did they not think this far ahead?

Poll: How long does civilization have? How far do you think we are from a point where the process of collapse (climate and ecological, political and societal) has progressed to the point where effectively you personally would describe the situation as one where human organization on the level of civilization (a largely sedentary society dependent on agricultural surplus with state formation, constituted by secular and/or religious power structures, that endure for centuries, with specialization of labor, writing, and urbanization) has effectively ceased to exist on a global scale? I personally believe best case scenario is mid to late 2030s.

> Posts must be focused on collapse. If the subject matter of your post has less focus on collapse than it does on issues such as prepping, politics, or economics, then it probably belongs in another subreddit.
> Posts must be specifically about collapse, not the resulting damage. By way of analogy, we want to talk about why there are so many car accidents, not look at photos of car wrecks.

This is collapse related because the article is about power substations being attacked as society is collapsing into chaos…. Eventually (it’s only a matter of time), some of us are going to have to go long periods without power. Wyd when that happens??

Attacks on power substations are growing: Why is the electric grid so hard to protect?

Submission Statement,
What is trying to be said here? Even the dictionary is confused.
Pertains to collapse because it continues to show the decline of intelligence with the republican party (think MTG, Boebert, Gaetz, Orange One etc.) and is making some sort of point against the left about nuclear war. Educated guess maybe the Cold War. It's an attempt I 'believe' of trying to make some sort of comment around wokeness and nuclear weapons. This was an interesting tweet one that found its way into lost generation due to its nonsensical attack against millennials and also there is some sort of something toward collapse itself and the bigger issues of ballistic missles. This shows that in time idiocracy may become more indecipherable. Subject to collapse, but like the orange one and his followers, hard to understand.
