> we know our standard of living (save for a few new tech gadgets) has declined precipitously since the end of WW2. Many people like to throw around the 'tech gadgets' bit as if that's some "gotcha!" that undoes your point e.g. "LOL we're not collapsing or coming apart. Look at the latest CPU or smartphone as proof!" Of course really all they are noticing is that the system is experiencing complexity increase (e.g. software/hardware) in one small way... without understanding or acknowledging that complexity decline can and is happening all throughout the rest of society. Really corporate power, profitable trinketry, military arms, corporate surveillance and data gathering, neoliberal paywallism, etc are seeing increasing complexity as enabled by targeted hyperfinancialization (aka speculative financialization), while the rest of society (ecologically, psychologically, health wise, community wise, infrastructure wise, third space wise, material quality wise [aka planned obsolescence], ownership wise, etc etc etc) is being simplified/cannibalized. You can add complexity-touches to your cabin in the forest... even as the forest is on fire and will soon enough take your cabin with it; the entire forest is collapsing from fire but for a short time complexity increased in the context of your cabin, profits [providing money providing the ability to access on demand complexity in the form of materials, labor, or both] increased for shareholders, etc.

\*MY\* Goal? No, it's not \*MY\* goal. I'm a medic, I go to any protest to provide medical services because when I put on the red cross it doesn't matter what side someone is on or what they care about. They are a human being and deserve to be heard, cared for if injured, and to have someone looking out for their safety. Ever been in a crowd of protestors when an angry driver decides to pummel through it? Or pull a gun and shoot someone? How about watching a 12 year old girl take an LTL round to the face? You sound like a very angry person who hasn't been exposed to the reasons why these things work. But it's not \*MY\* goal. So, cool it.

What I’m going saying here is this. That you’re so worked up about one, two or even more things you don’t agree on republican stance with. Spewing nonsense, biased articles and hateful comments isn’t going to help you. At all. It will just make you seem uninformed and childish. If you’d think about this in a broader perspective you’d see that for all of these issues. If it’s trans children’s surgery, abortion, the Ethiopian war or something as trivial as the federal speed limit. Truth will be that in some cases you’ll find yourself on the democrat side. And in some cases (even though you’ll not believe so) you’ll be more in favour of the republican standpoint. And that’s Allright. You don’t have to follow suit in every argument just because you have chosen your team beforehand!! Sometimes you’re right, sometimes your wrong. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We’re all on this world together. And disregarding a large part of the populations views on certain subjects just simply isn’t possible.

You could say the exact same thing about seat belts, driver’s licenses, health codes, safety gear on job sites, consumer protection laws, and cooks requiring HepA vaccinations. It’s all selfish solipsism and narcissism from people like you, the cancer of individualism and “muh rights” over the community. You would rather see everyone around you die than submit to a truly trivial imposition, because no-one matters more than you do. It’s psychopathy in action, and hatred of the health & safety of your fellow man; the kind of anti-human psychopathy that they make Criminal Minds episodes out of.

Location: Southern Pennsylvania I'm currently out of work and circling the drain as far as homelessness and had several suicide attempts. (Please hold all your condolences and posting of crisis lines and things I don't need them but I appreciate that if you had the thought) Anyway I'm applying to places and because of my attempts I was paired with a group called Service Access Management or SAM. Which while I was in hospital I was led to believe it would be some kind of state social services but it's actually just a company that does this service for the state of Pennsylvania I guess. Anyway they're fairly useless and basically they just send a caseworker over to your house to figure out what your needs are and then bombard you with phone numbers. I've called about two dozen numbers ranging from the salvation army to veterans assistance organizations and food banks and that sort of thing. Basically every single one of them have told me that all of their previous programs like car repair assistance or grants or loans are basically not existent. Some of them offer food banks but you have to show up there in person which obviously if you're poor and you don't have access to transportation you're f*****. The sheer number of phone numbers also that just bring off the hook or who don't have messaging services is staggering. My caseworker seemed flummoxed as I think she's probably pretty new but even the tattered community organization here in the south of the state doesn't exist anymore if it ever did and even the organizations whose job it is to collate these things seem to be frustrated with the fact that a lot of their contacts are dead ends.

Our entire civilization is one exercise in backwards avarice. We don't live off the landbase that we actually habitate, instead destroying it for urban developments and then destroying foreign ecosystems/peoples in the name of the sustaining the unsustainable. We don't act cohesively or collectively in our day-to-day, instead preferring to have our own hunk of shit to ferry us around so that we can slurp up unsustainably and unethically sourced shite made by miserable cunts for miserable cunts. We pop out kid after kid in the futile hope of pawning off our dreams and aspirations onto the next generation, a walking talking reminder of the empty pit where our souls used to be. We throw our raw sewage in with our drinking water like it is some Dickensian dystopia. Then when we're up to our ass in raw sewage, looking at the charred husk of our communities and worldly possessions we go 'ah, this is ok, we just need to *consume* better! I'll make my car electric! I'll erect giant factories of steel which piss out poison that we have to bury deep underground, in the name of sustainability! Because deindustrializing or consuming *less* is insanity!' If I didn't know better, I'd be expecting some quaft gameshow host huckster to jump out behind a curtain and tell me this is all some *Truman Show* esque nightmare, a joke played at my expense. But no, no, this is the lauded Homo-Sapiens-Sapiens we've all heard so much about, this is the epitome of enlightened progressivism. To top it all off, you can't even give vent to your feelings properly, because of some elite fink's 'TOS', for some obscene taboo against suicide because if we accepted how fucked we actually were we'd quickly realize how god damn hollow all that chicken-soup-for-the-soul bullshit that we have to feed ourselves really is. I'm gonna take my Zoloft with a double, it's too early for this shit.

Why are you asserting that the Democrats care or would meaningfully defend civil liberties? While they have been paying 'lip' service, the communal bonds and money people have are dwindling. The ability to own property or raise families or seek higher education have been hacked to the bone. If you have no community and you have no resources with which to disseminate propaganda or make your voices heard... who cares? Who cares if the Republicans open the death camps tomorrow, the Democrats would just send their most Zoomer candidate to cry outside the barbed wire. They'd compromise and ask that *a few less* cattle cars went to the camps. Not only did sniffer-in-chief write the crime bill which turned generations of black and poor people into chattel slaves, they never even enshrined civil liberties like RvW when they have control of the necessary branches of government. Political change has never been spurred by voting, electoralism is just the pressure valve for the masses of plebs so they feel like they had a 'say' in their oppression, or so they can blame the other 'team' (fellow prolls) for their oppression. You didn't vote for independence, you didn't vote for civil rights, you didn't vote on unions being a force. That was paid for in **blood**.

Way to fearmonger. You have no way of knowing what is going to happen. One, 'the chances of a bird flu outbreak is low until it isn't' is pure 100% conjecture. Is there concern among scientists? Yes. Do they say the chances are still low? Also yes. I'll keep my eye on it and keep enough PPE and food stores in the house, but until the word on how this is playing out changes I'm not going to doomscroll and lose my head over it. Spreading messages like this just make the whole situation seem way worse than it really is. The chances of a bird flu outbreak is low.

Research paper from 1997: \>The collapse of children's well-being in the United States has reached breathtaking proportions. Juvenile violent crime has increase sixfold, from 16,000 arrests in 1960 to 96,000 in 1992. Eating disorders and rates of depression have soared among adolescent girls. Teen suicide has tripled. Alcohol and drug abuse among teen-agers, although it has leveled off in recent years, continues at a very high rate. Poverty has shifted from the elderly to the young. Of all the nation's poor today, 38 percent are children.' One can think of many explanations for these unhappy developments: the growth of commercialism and consumerism, the influence of television and the mass media, the decline of religion, the widespread availability of guns and addictive drugs, and the decay of social order and neighborhood relationships. None of these causes should be dismissed. But the evidence is now strong that the absence of fathers from the lives of children is one of the most important causes. The most tangible and immediate consequence of fatherlessness for children is the loss of economic resources. By the best recent estimates, the income of the household in which a child remains after a divorce instantly declines by about 21 percent per capita on average, while expenses tend to go up. Over time, the economic situation for the child often deteriorates further. The proliferation of mother-headed families now constitutes something of a national economic emergency. About a quarter of all family groups with children--more than half of all black family groups--are headed by mothers, which is almost double the 11.5 percent figure in 1970. No other group is so poor, and none stays poor longer. Poverty afflicts nearly one out of every two of these families, but fewer than one in 10 married-couple families. \>The decline of fatherhood is one of the most basic, unexpected and extraordinary trends of our time. Its dimensions can be captured in a single statistic: In just three decades, between 1960 and 1990, the percentage of children living apart from their natural fathers more than doubled, from 17 percent to 36 percent. If this trend continues, by early in the next century nearly half of all American children will be going to sleep each evening without being able to say good night to their dads. No one predicted this trend; few researchers or government agencies have monitored it; and it is not widely discussed, even today. But the decline of fatherhood is a major force behind many of the most disturbing problems that plague American society: crime and juvenile delinquency; premature sexuality and out-of-wedlock births to teenagers; deteriorating educational achievement; depression, substance abuse and alienation among adolescents; and the growing number of women and children in poverty source [https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED416035.pdf](https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED416035.pdf)

Probably a majority of all Negro children receive federally-aided public assistance sometime during their childhood. The family is the cornerstone of our society. Ok, so to make things more interesting, we have to point out that barter was not the original way in which things were passed from one person to another. In societies where there is no separation between religion and state and "economy", it's kind of hard to describe what the hell is going on. A simplified example would be if your Uncle give you a really expensive present, you then feel humbled, and a normal person would what to re-pay, and even give back more, the next time there is an occasion to do so, in order to "win back" the prestige of being the one who gave more. This is something that Marcel Mauss called gift and counter-gift. There is no equivalence and there is no end-point to this "transaction"; its an ongoing tie of obligations. Barter and haggling on the other hand, that is where you have to go outside the the city, past the bandit camps, to some weird shady cross-roads, where a weird dude is selling trinkets he brought over from the next city behind the mountains. So in this case, because you really don't what anything to do with this guy, you say, "Ok, We will imagine that these two items are 'equivalent' to each other. We will pretend that we know what that is by haggling a bit, and then you can get lost." So, yes it is true that barter always existed, like corona viruses or ghonorrhea always existed, but its kind of a minor detail.

" Disney" We can fix it. There will be suicide, theft, mass looting, rape, murder, slavery. Government oversight will at first attempt to keep order, and then use violence in order to maintain dwindling supplies. violence will spike from extremist groups, both political and religious. Terrorist acts will be the new power struggles after the government fails. Kids will watch their parents kill and eat the dog, then kill and eat the sickest child if food can't be found. I hope they have a talking bird in the show! Those are cute.

Not at all, personally. Because I see the world situation as being much more dire than I am even permitted to say in this subreddit. And I have seen the worst coming for decades, but told to "Shut up" IRL by everybody I know. I know that others exist who know what I know. So I'm keeping my insight to myself, helping where it's possible, but prepping beyond what even preppers expect (you need to go with cans exclusively, and get out of the Northern hemisphere, get 500 miles away from any coast, for example). This is a horror movie. It's going to exceed the worst imaginations of anybody in this subreddit, it's clear. Suicide means that you don't pay attention and never did. Sorry to be so brutally honest. I mean, Netflix’s endgame is the obvious end game for all these streaming services. They basically all are losing money by undercutting Netflix trying to snuff it out. Basically none of these streaming services are profitable. They will all end up raising prices, restricting content etc etc to try to make money.

That is what I turn into every time I see someone responding to a post about crazy grocery prices with the ever so popular 'yoy need to buy more rice and beans' line. BITCH I make $35/hr *I shouldn't have to survive on fucking rice and beans!*. The point is that everything is out of fucking control and people are just like 'welp guess im poor now better just fuck off to the bulk aisle, and you should too'. People need to get angry not just roll over and take it.

> Eh, they would have preferred I believed. But close enough, right? Not to get too catholic about it (because I'm not Catholic) but this is the flaw in the Protestant doctrine of Sola Fide, that salvation is granted "by faith alone". Clearly you understand the message of Jesus better than many people who believe. Your actions align with the values and spirit of his teachings despite your lack of faith. So how is their faith with no action better than your action without faith? What kind of loving god dispensing grace would forgive social murder but not forgive disbelief? Sorry, I shouldn't drag this off into a theological debate, especially as I'm somewhat agnostic in the first place, but you framed it so that's what occurs to me.

I'm not surprised it gets tweaked a little, but the implication is that 17 people said "I like this," and 15 people said "I don't like this," leaving a total of 2 upvotes. That's the model that Reddit is seen as using by the vast majority of Redditors. If it's random or manipulated by mods, that should be announced and widely known. It is important for us to know what the average person thinks of a post. It shapes our perception of opinions in the world, and many people are using it as a guide for what ideas hold weight with the general population. I do have a question, since you seem to know about the upvote system, does karma go up one for each upvote, or does karma go up and down based on up and downvotes?

An uncomfortable truth is that the internet enables this massively. I bet you hardly saw this when instant gratification entertainment wasn't so easy to use and get lost in 18 hours a day. I'm not discounting the social and psychological elements to this, but without the internet you'd have very bored people who would eventually seek out gratification, social or otherwise, outside their rooms.

I have complained and all they do is send the truck to pump it, and the sewage comes up within a week. I am afraid of getting evicted if I call the County. Any suggestions.

i'm not ultra invested into this topic, i just lurk and sometimes post on marxist-leninist subs. there used to be a sub just for asking them questions but it was literally banned for no reason. /r/genzhou the thing is, if you wander into a communist spaces, they could be something called "ultras". they poopoo on all countries that call or have called themselves communist saying they aren't purely communist. as for your question, you could ask the people in https://lemmygrad.ml/ and they might be able to answer. and leftism is full of traps. the CIA is oddly really really good at "stopping communism" in the USA. What most Americans think of as radical left, Bernie Sanders, is more controlled opposition than anything else. The CIA invented the entire "genre" of patsocs, also known as patriotic socialism. Anarchism I already touched upon. And they also made/boost a fake liberal left that is hilariously pro-imperialism with names like Vaush and Sam Cedar. And the state department and CIA combine to poopoo all existing self-declared communist or ML states, including its offshoots like Juche in North Korea. Have you heard of Yeonmi Park? She claimed on the Joe Rogan podcast that North Korea only has one train stop and sometimes they don't have electricity and the people get out to push. She's just an example of a paid asset that works to make actual communist or ML countries look bad. All of it comes together (I haven't described 10% of it) to make Americans believe that while America has its issues, it's still "the best country" to live in and there is no better alternative to whatever the fuck the US has. For news sources/websites that let you look outside of this crazy CIA controlled media bubble I suggest the gray zone and mintpressnews.

So? The problem isn't that people travel so much, the problem is that under capitalism, corporations must maximise profit, which leads them to always search for cheaper labor, for example in the form of easily exploited immigrant labor. If we were not divided into countries this would not happen and if we did not live under capitalism it would not happen either. "Globalism" is meant to channel your anger away from the root cause (capitalism) towards a vaguely defined "elite" and foreigners. Stop being so easy to manipulate!

You can't be king of the ashes unless you commit suicide The problem created by AI integration isn't unemployment; its abundance. An abundance of goods and services at the lowest possible price. An abundance of people seeking jobs the tech hasn't replaced, lowering wages. It is the beginning of a post-scarcity society. While it is debatable if this society will result in the proliferation of the means of production and wealth or a concentration of it. E.g If it becomes cheaper to buy a 3D printer with integrated AI; will this kill the open market for certain goods. Or will the company running the AI monopolize the operation of the 3D printers. In reality the car industry killed the horse and carriage industry; but also created new jobs via gas stations, road works etc... But for the argument lets assume that we see the birth of the "Mega-Corp Society". All actions are drive for profit and humans are only valuable based on how much money you can get out of them. However there is a huge problem, what money? If it is cheaper to use AI and automation why would you even bother with human slaves or paid workers. That you have to feed and look after, even in the most basic ways. We get a massive glut of "disposable humans" that still have the risk of revolt. Plus the issue that no one is making enough money to purchase the Mega-Corps goods. The entire system wouldn't even work for a day because its fucking stupid. It belongs in Sci-fi novels and video-games. I understand the logic. People look at past and current economic systems based on exploitation and expand it into the future. A "*Boot stomping on a human face forever"* Not saying that people are capable of extremely stupid things on a massive scale; just look at Russia's current logic in invading Ukraine The best outcome for everybody would be: 1. The Mega-Corps pay tax to the Government 2. The Government uses those funds to run UBI 3. The UBI recipients buy the Mega-Corps goods and services This prevents the "pressure cooker" of social unrest that leads to revolutions and *coup d'etats* Or the rich can just horde all the wealth and pray that the poor don't storm the palace But billionaires are currently building spaceships than paying better wages so.....we may be fucked

At least in an apartment area kids go outside, there are tiny parks, streets (preferably with limited car traffic), schools, and so on - they can handle larger numbers of kids. The ones in suburbia can't even walk for long before their parents are reported for child abuse because the kids walked alone or near the road, there's no real play space or entertainment. The only thing that has kept suburban kids from going nuts is probably indoor gaming.

I reiterate: deindustrialization does not mean an end to the means of production, but to the factories responsible for pollution. You should Google it. The United States has already undergone a minor phase of deindustrialization when we shipped mass production overseas (so people could get their consumerism fix with cheap mass produced shit instead of buying something of quality -- god forbid we actually use something past its "hot and new" phase) and shut the doors on a lot of factories here. Most of the things made in those factories are still made here, too... by small-scale producers who have a comparatively non-existent carbon footprint compared to their factory-based counterparts... Including the mom-and-pop computer shop that I worked at for years where we build non-branded laptops. It does not mean all factories are gone -- there are some things that require specialized production. It does not mean anyone is going to go without. But even if it *did* mean a total throwback to hunter-gatherer living (where our progeny not many generations out will be, anyway, if we don't get the fuck over ourselves and stop acting like prissy divas)... We survived that way for about 112,000 years and we did just fine. See _Sapiens_ and the associated academic papers by Dr Harari et al. You can love your life all you want. Thats up to you. You do you and I hope youre happy. Just understand that your refusal to consider measures beyond the thoughts-and-prayers equivalent of hoping science will find a way to fix this (because they don't actually have any idea how to without drastic changes like deindustrialization) is akin to saying "fuck future generations - I'd rather have a cheap computer, fast food, and a houseload of ultimately worthless consumerist fodder on a gamble than give them a guarantee for sustainable living".

I see we found the right-winger who considers people who have nothing but a trailer to barely be human at all. Really, what would you prefer, just go straight to having them shot and ground up into hamburger and fed to pigs, since you don't feel they deserve homes, humble though they may be? And sure, you seem to like "clearing out slums", what does that look like to you, just shoot them all and get them out of sight out of mind? My version of "clearing out slums" would be to give every person in that slum a great home with everything they needed, something capitalism simply doesn't permit. I'm not sure I even want to know what your version of "clearing them out" means. You realize these are real human beings with real feelings and minds, crushed by the system, right? Right? And would you still feel this way if your life went to shit, say through massive medical bills that the capitalist system exploits out of people, so you had to move into a trailer park, and have your rents raised 1000% overnight? Would it be different if it was you? Empathy. Compassion. These are things many of us try to keep feeling. Newsflash, genius: the people who live there in trailers will *not* be the ones buying million-dollar homes in that location and moving in. That will be affluent people who can already buy houses elsewhere. Leaving the people in the trailers maybe winding up in those slums you want to "clear out".

I bet if you had been born at his time, you would probably just say the same. It is not like this guy is a monster, it is just that Sooner Than Expected has caught up with people who have been given reassuring stories how problems only come way past their lifetime, or possibly even after their children's lifetimes. And even if this guy had, say, committed suicide at 1993 or whenever he thought that, so what? Would the world be one iota different? Of course not. You must be hating the attitude, not the person. However, it is natural for humans to not worry about long term, and get stuff while the getting is good, because it is immediate benefit now vs. obscure uncertain harm at some distant future. I am going to say you would probably have thought the same -- I mean, he is talking about purchasing a house by sea despite knowing that sea level rising would become a problem eventually. It is just how we are, most of us are not smart and cautious enough to worry about stuff that is way off, and I think he thought that the increase is too slow to really worry about. By the time sea would actually try to eat his house, he would be dead. Turns out he was off, but we already have a catchphrase for that. And don't forget human technological progress beliefs: people know that various problems are mounting, but likely also assume that there would be sufficiently good technology or other fix to deal with the issues by the time they become big enough problems. Even on this subreddit, way too many people think that just getting rid of capitalism would prevent collapse, which is ridiculous. We are way far in overshoot, no matter which economic system we use and we have locked ourselves into complexity trap where we are now dependent on technology that slowly poison us to death, but also have no alternatives to it. We got to use certain minimum amount of energy, or we can't heat or cool our homes, can't grow and transport food, can't keep water running in the pipes and sewage flowing out of the cities. At best, we could manage the decline somewhat and cushion the eventual fall, but not prevent it. It really comes down to being able to collapse earlier, or sometime later. Well, here is the real question: which one of these choices appeals to us more? Optimism kills. And humans seem to be pretty optimistic.

>. The problem with your argument is that you’re advancing a viewpoint that has lead us nowhere. 95% of people regain the weight and more under the current advice, 70% of the country is overweight or obese. Do they eat similarly? A simple question. >Like HFCS soda See, this is my "beef" with all the supposed readers who think they found the problem. This shit is complicated. Sugary soda consumption has been [going down](https://www.jandonline.org/article/S2212-2672(20)30902-3/fulltext) in the US for decades while obesity has been going up. Does that sound like a reasonable key hypothesis to explain it all? >Cancer is also a preventable metabolic disease, yet people seem to understand that once you have cancer it’s incredibly complex to cure and we don’t concentrate on blame and personal effort in resolving it, although that’s likely what it takes, but at the point that someone is sick we realize that effort may not be enough and they may need medications and treatments to support their recovery. We understand that someone is never the same once they’ve had cancer, that it actually changes their body chemistry, that they may need continued treatment and support, and that they are always more susceptible to getting it again. Obesity is not cancer. You're trying to make it sound like obesity is incurable. No, we know what works, the science is there. Cancer(s) are a different issue, there's no real cure and if you have spontaneous remissions, there is no scientific true cure, there are treatments that may or may not help depending on if it's caught early, what type of cancer it is and many more. What you're doing is describing fatalistic obesity. And I'm well aware of fatalism, we are in /r/collapse. It is not. >I do believe sugar is at the root of our current chronic disease epidemic that includes, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. And you're wrong, lol. Sugar definitely makes it worse and should be banned, but it won't stop it.

> What about the French paradox? * https://nutritionfacts.org/2018/05/22/what-about-the-french-paradox/ >Everyone had their pet theories to explain the paradox. Was it the wining? Was it the dining? Yes, animal foods were associated with coronary heart disease mortality, but plant foods appeared protective. So, maybe the fact that the French were eating four times as many vegetables helps account for their lower death rates? >Well, it turns out apparently there’s no paradox at all. As Marion Nestle astutely pointed out, the French had only recently started eating so unhealthily, and chronic diseases take decades to develop. Americans had been eating this way for 40 years, whereas the French had just picked it up. If we all started smoking today but found no measurable increase in lung cancer tomorrow, it wouldn’t mean smoking doesn’t cause lung cancer—it just takes a while. >What happens when you actually run the numbers? If you compare coronary death rates to the amount of animal fat and cholesterol levels at the time, France does seem unusually protected. And, if you compare death rates to what they were eating two decades before, they’re still pretty far off the line. How is that possible? **It turns out French physicians under-report ischemic heart disease deaths on the death certificates by as much as 20 percent, according to a World Health Organization investigation.** >So, if you correct for that, France basically comes right back in line with the death versus animal fat and death versus cholesterol lines, with about four times the fatal heart attack rates as Japan decades after four times the animal fat consumption. "The sugar lobby has been trying to point fingers at fats and oils for years. Yet, when you attempt to remove them from the diet, cardiovascular disease marches onward and upward (as it has), but when you take out the sugar…" There was never an actual "low fat" period in America. This is all mythology that goes back to the 1977 McGovern Report that Keto circles mischaracterize: >In January 1977, after having held hearings on the national diet, the McGovern committee issued a new set of nutritional guidelines for Americans that sought to combat leading killer conditions such as heart disease, certain cancers, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and arteriosclerosis.[2][10][11] Titled Dietary Goals for the United States, but also known as the "McGovern Report",[10] they suggested that Americans eat less fat, less cholesterol, less refined and processed sugars, and more complex carbohydrates and fiber.[11] (Indeed, it was the McGovern report that first used the term complex carbohydrate, denoting "fruit, vegetables and whole-grains".[12]) The recommended way of accomplishing this was to eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and less high-fat meat, egg, and dairy products.[2][11] While many public health officials had said all of this for some time, the committee's issuance of the guidelines gave it higher public profile.[11] As we know, Americans rushed right out and did their best to follow government guidelines (eyeroll). No, some people brought "low fat" versions of products. So the wheatberry is 7% fat. Factory Wholewheat crackers are 40% fat. "Reduced" or "Low-fat" crackers are 25-30% fat. Still added fat, just not as much of it. This is what people did. And if I remember right, the fast food and junk food commercials ran through the 1980s and 1990s unimpeded, not going out of business during this "low fat" period. If you can find this low fat period in this data, tell me: * https://ourworldindata.org/diet-compositions But we already know what happens when fat gets lowered. We seen it in WW1 Denmark, WW2 Norway, and 1970s Finland. Heart attacks go down. * https://web.archive.org/web/20160326194441/https://www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2012nl/jul/lessons.htm * https://www.drcarney.com/blog/health-issues/diet-linked-to-heart-disease-reduction-during-war * https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/04/finlands-radical-heart-health-transformation/389766/ * https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6062761/ * https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7444010/

Quit crying about being fat if you don't want people to help. No one is here to fluff you up. You gain weight by eating too much. You lose it by eating less garbage, mainly carbs (don't come at me about vegetables you fucking know what I mean there). If you are gaining weight eating nothing then go to your doctor and check on water retention, you likely have serious health issues and you know it, so you wouldn't be on Reddit getting offended over what most people experience.

Welcome to all the new mods. I’m sure it’s a trying job at times, walking the line between content that is valuable but hard to read because it’s depressing and true, and non-content that’s hard to read because it’s angry and opaque, but I do think you’re managing a good balance that’s keeping content timely, relevant, and tolerably courteous. So thank you for all your work.

The reason we use the supply “chain” metaphor is largely because of weak links. Let’s say China decides they’re tired of Taiwan acting independent, and does what Putin is doing in Ukraine, taking out their power grid. Even a brief disruption to the power for a chip fab will take it offline for months. https://hbr.org/2022/10/fixing-the-u-s-semiconductor-supply-chain Or say there is a disruption to the fuel supply used to mine or transport the potash used for fertilizer feedstock in even one of the three countries responsible for 70% of the world’s supply? https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/our-natural-resources/minerals-mining/minerals-metals-facts/potash-facts/20521 https://www2.bgs.ac.uk/mineralsuk/download/planning_factsheets/mpf_potash.pdf People don’t need to *collectively* commit suicide when there are a few people who are comfortable committing mass murder. If you don’t believe me, try living in Haiti for a week.

Woman’s perspective- yes eating habits and food has changed but you know what makes it’s physically impossible for me to lose weight like a normal person? Birth control and antidepressants. Which I need to not kill myself or end up in a situation that could be deadly (like needing a life saving abortion and being denied it because I live in the US) both reasons aren’t good reasons, they’re a sad trade off I have to do to survive.

Ah, see I never extended this to any whole community. I even specified the group I was talking about. You're implying I meant *all* POC so you don't have to actually answer my arguments; you can just brand them racist. So that misleading microaggression aside; My point is that we can't trust wealthy and elite POC who specifically act to sabotage the community and solidarity and equality we need to achieve actual change. Saying we can't act to address these issues because racism exists is just permanently sidelining attempts to fix climate change.

Things will be so terrible, probably by the mid 2030s/early 2040s, that governments and pro-life authoritarians and su!cide preventionists will hopefully finally legalize access to a universal, unconditional, liberalized right to obtain a graceful/merciful, and peaceful death by voluntary euthanasia/physician assistance in dying. Nembutal, fentanyl, and nitrogen releasing Sarco pods are easily available to the public. The end of the film Soylent Green with Edward G. Robinson's character basically saying "I'm done" and going to the walk-in euthanasia clinic where you eat a nice meal, drink wine, and listen to classical music and view scenes of natural wonders such as forests and prairies no longer in existence before being anesthetized by a doctor was this epiphany moment for me, before even becoming a collapse-aware climate and peak oil doomer.

Close, but you put yourself in my radar. You also just happen to seem to be one of the left wing douchebags that try to silence everyone you don’t agree with. I don’t try to silence anyone I disagree with. That’s why I’ve not reported you. I shot down your falsifying statements advice because I happen to work for a bank, so I have first-hand knowledge. I know that your advice was ridiculous. I display my pronouns because I have met transgender people and seen how much anxiety being a cunt to them causes. Displaying pronouns is simply a shorthand way of showing that I won’t cause them anxiety. But if I’ve upset you enough to cause you to lash out at me, I’m genuinely sorry. I had no intention of triggering you.
