Nuclear Assault - Critical Mass
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7wntm7QVXQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7wntm7QVXQ)
This song is from 1989. This band was able to foresee all this 34 years ago. The lyrics were really prophetic for their age.

The bio-sphere, the place we live
It seems like we don't give a damn
Other species flushed down the tubes
We need another race to rape
The way we live we will destroy
Every other living thing
'Til none are left except our race
And then we will destroy ourselves

Another oil spill
Atomic waste displaced
Another forest dies

Bring on the acid rain
Slightly insane, the type of greed
That makes a world unfit for life
Toxic wastes destroy the seas
While poison gas pollutes the air
A waste of life, while no one cares
The world becomes a giant tomb
Critical mass will be achieved
And ruins will be all that's left

Another oil spill
Atomic waste displaced
Another forest dies

A Hell on Earth, what we create
Dragging life to death with us
All living things destroyed or used
By shortsighted human beings
We do these things, let them be done
Apathy creates despair
The damage done will be too great
The world wounded beyond repair

Another oil spill
Atomic waste displaced
Another forest dies
All ^white ^land ^owning men are created equal!
Pretty soon the only thing you'll be able to trust at all is face-to-face interactions and events that you've witnessed personally with your own two eyes.
Disagreeing with other people over anything read or seen through media will then become like two people with schizophrenia arguing about their delusions.
Everything is coming full circle, isn't it?
My kids aren’t learning anything in school. My high school son told me they all checked out after the pandemic started and they just copy lesson plans from other teachers and hope no one cares enough to call them out. He listens to podcasts all day. My middle school daughter is in the same boat.
My point is public school isn’t where kids are getting their education anymore it’s the internet.
we already have alternatives, but oil corporations said no
Consumption strike. Stop buying the shit they’re selling. IF we could collectively pull it off it would bring the system to it’s knees. Because too many won’t make that sacrifice I just try to get by with much much less. A drop in the ocean but I’m tired of giving them any more money than I have to. It’s my best fuck you at the moment and I realize that I don’t need a fraction of the shit I thought I did, goods, services, and otherwise.
Good. If the world ends it’ll save me the trouble of having to kill myself.
Good. If the world ends it’ll save me the trouble of having to kill myself.
Politicians know damn well what decisions would need to be made to avert catastrophe. It's just that those decisions would be unprofitable for their corporate donors, and potentially inconvenient for the hordes of reactionary bootlickers who refuse to make any sacrifice for the greater good, so we're not making them.
This is literally ALWAYS true, no matter how accurate a report is, which IPCC reports are not.
For them to be accurate, they would need to incorporate every variable on this interconnected planet. All our instruments are designed by humans, to extend human senses, which is inherently limiting.
Yes, we are more aware now than ever before because we can share information but we are all still running the same wet-ware that was designed to look for food and people to fuck, not track a planet in exponential decline (partially resulting from studying it).
For our predictions to be accurate, we'd need to understand the role of every species and interspecies interaction in the ecosphere and we're losing species faster than we can catalog them. Since that is the case, we're basically trying to get an idea of how much time there is left before a building collapses on our heads based on what we can see from the ground, inside, and the roof, with only the basic fundamentals of structural engineering and certainly not enough to repair any damage we've cataloged.
It is always worse and will always happen faster because of industry-friendly wording, the fear of causing a panic, and basic ass ignorance of how this system works. It's appalling that we're not paralyzed by the shame of sending the world down a path that was always a murder suicide pact. We won't even take responsibility, despite being the people that decided everyone could have a car and fly around the planet because we had to keep those war factories going because profits.
These are the people that are in charge and that is there ethos. The world is very much on fire, sinking, while pests consume any calories that haven't yet gone extinct... including human beings and the species we subsidize from falling victim to shifts in the climate/seasons. Might as well paint a target on their backs.
Many extremely deluded south Africans that refuse to abandon a sinking ship.
>yes there are places with much better ways of life... But they have a different approach to life and that can be a relief to people who might want to focus on the more important things in life and not be made to feel they have failed or are in danger.
OK, especially as a Leftist myself: point taken. It is human nature that people want to find better situations by changing location. (To an extent, I did that myself; more on that below.) There are places -- Scandinavia, primarily, arguably New Zealand -- that have a more enlightened culture than America as a baseline. And they don't have to deal with 35-45% of their fellow citizens being pig-ignorant Christo-fascists.
So if you're saying it is totally understandable that a young American might want to be in such a place, rather than in the U.S. ... OK I can understand that. (Speaking for myself, I'd love to live in a country that provides Multiple Sclerosis medication at cost of manufacture and delivery, ~$30/month, rather than for literally $3,000-$8,000 per month...)
But: is seeking to *emigrate* the right solution? Is it the best way to solve the problem?
**And -- critically and essentially -- is it *feasible*?**
Let's say you overcome the considerable problem of getting a resident visa for a place like Norway or New Zealand -- you're young and in perfect health and have a highly desirable skill set such that a potential employer with resources wants to bring you in, and you have the wealth to fund such a drawn out, expensive process; or you have a romantic partner from that country who wants to marry you; or, etc. -- my point is, you will find those places have their own problems, which are now your problems, and *you have to navigate those problems without the resources you'd have in your place of origin* (navigating in your native language; a personal network of friends and family; familiarity with social systems and ways of solving problems; etc.).
*And* you will find that moral darkness dwells in human hearts *everywhere*. Yes, statistically these places have less violence, but there have still been mass shootings (both example countries), there is still gay-bashing, and racism, and immigrant-bashing. (Ask Syrians in Sweden how welcome they feel...)
As an American myself, my main lesson from actually living in foreign countries is, they can have pluses you do not have at home, and minuses you do not have at home... they are, simplistically, just *different*.
Maybe it's a matter of choosing which problems you feel are most critical to solve. Life is a series of trade-offs, so maybe you deal with higher cost of living to be in a place where you feel physically more secure.
But my point is, **you do not need to emigrate out of your country to solve some of these problems**. You can solve some of these problems merely by *moving within the United States*. Even that poses challenges, but nothing like the prohibitive obstacles of moving to another country.
A few years ago, my partner and I both had remote jobs at the same time, and realized we could actually leave California (alleluiah!), the state where I grew up and lived 45+ years, where my large extended family lives. We wanted a place that had a good civil culture (politically blue), and would avoid some of the worst of climate change. So we moved to the Minneapolis region (where my wife has relatives and friends). Yeah, we have a police culture problem here, as the murder of George Floyd made evident. But, now my trans teenager lives in a state that just enshrined his right to gender-affirming care into law. And our state is now a mecca in the Midwest for the women of all surrounding states to obtain an abortion if they need one: roughly 20% of patients at Planned Parenthood clinics in Minnesota are now from neighboring states.
So yeah, we moved, and we're better off. Would I be better off in, say, Norway, with my MS? Fuck yeah, I would -- but I can't get into Norway, because of my MS. Countries that are gated communities of civilization make it hard to get in, for a reason: scarce resources.
I guess I'm saying, OK, sure, *move* to improve your situation -- but don't think it requires you to *leave your country*.
It is human nature to want to move to improve your life. We've been doing that since we came down from the trees. But I stick to my point: I don't think a young American needs to *emigrate* to create a better life. Change neighborhood, or town, or state, sure. But anywhere you have some personal resources is a better place to make a stand to confront what's happening than a place where you don't.
Lol, this is a perfect example of what the top level comment your reply is under is complaining about. Everything is political conflict and guesses at someone’s views and motives.
The guy you responded to said nothing right wing or anything even vaguely partisan. You should log off and go outside for a bit.
No one cares that you can use a search engine.
Incorporate yourself and then do crimes
Yes, we shall.
And for anyone paying any attention, this should prove that it's not our fucking system.
In theory, the GME thing is correct. In theory. If you assume the market rules apply to everyone in every situation.
In practice?
Lol.
You'll see. They're not going to burn their system over some fucking retail investor peons. "Pshh. Serfs."
And when they don't, that should tell everyone everything they need to know, but only like 5000 guys are paying attention. Not enough.
nuclear is a disaster waiting to happen already with all the global warming we have locked in, and with the 450 reactors we already have running around the world. there aren't enough resources on earth to build the tens of thousands more we'd need to replace fossil fuels, and each one takes decades of work to decommission when you shut it down.
all of the other power sources (and nuclear, too) are dependent on fossil fuels to make the materials (coal for smelting, etc), and to transport the materials in the global supply chain necessary to manufacture them. if you eliminate fossil fuels from the equation, they all become prohibitively expensive to make. and like nuclear, there aren't enough resources on earth to transition to them. for example, it would take more lithium than we mine in 16,000 years to transition all the remaining gas vehicles on earth to electric vehicles - and we'd use up the known reserves of lithium in just one generation.
there was never another option. there's no replacement for fossil fuels, just more opportunities for the same companies to make money by peddling the "cure" to the illness they gave you in the first place. they're not going to tell you the cure is dependent on the same thing making you sick.
What is this "market forces" stuff I for real do not get this market worship.
Interstate highways / space program / colonizing the West / police / postal service / utilities... ALL government. Using private contractors, sure. Telling them to fuck off with that if they don't make it to customer spec (where customer is .gov and they have a staff to check on that)? Sure.
Market forces will make you the easiest shit it can turn a profit on and get away with it, that's the entire definition of capitalism.
So you know. Spaghetti with rat turds in it. Baby formula full of radiator fluid. Entire container ships full of dildos.
This is what "the market" produces. If they could just straight rob you and sustain that, that's what they'd do. Maximum profit for minimum effort, that is their mandate.
All the everything you see around you that is in any way useful was a taxpayer funded government program.
That's also why it's all falling apart now, becuz we dernt believe in no communism y'all.

Google Bard AI: If no action is taken to prevent further climate change, the consequences will be devastating for human civilization.I received access to the beta version of Google's chatbot, Bard. Here is what it answered to my question.
**Prompt**
What will happen to human civilization if no action is taken to prevent further climate change?
**Response**
If no action is taken to prevent further climate change, the consequences will be devastating for human civilization.
* Sea levels will rise, inundating coastal cities and displacing millions of people.
* Extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts, will become more common and severe.
* Food production will be disrupted, leading to hunger and malnutrition.
* Human health will suffer, as heat waves, air pollution, and other climate-related impacts take a toll.
These impacts will not be evenly distributed. The poorest and most vulnerable people will be hit the hardest.
Climate change is a global problem that requires a global solution. We must all work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change that are already happening.
Here are some of the things that we can do to prevent further climate change:
* Reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
* Invest in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power.
* Improve energy efficiency.
* Replant forests.
* Protect our oceans.
* Educate ourselves and others about climate change.
We must act now to prevent climate change from causing further damage to our planet and our civilization.
The bot is pissed at you bc you didn't spell it out for the sub. The Mods want everyone to spell it out. Why you here. why post belong. You know. People need to understand. Chaos otherwise.

Not just weekly observation. But this week spring appears to have come early, mirroring the weather earlier this winter when we were wondering if winter would come at all. I'd say we've had about a month of a "normal" winter here so far this season. It's been unseasonably warm, just as last summer and fall were. It rained on Halloween, didn't get below freezing, which is unusual. And it stayed warm and rainy until late mid February except for a snow storm here and there. It felt like winter finally came late February after the polar vortex, we finally had sub freezing temperatures during the day after that and finally got a bunch of snowstorms (ski resorts here have really been struggling, and with the high temps can't even make artifical snow. Some had to shut down). Decently cold temps and snow continued since then to now (late march) and it is now rainy and warm again and will be all week. Which is bit early for that. We've always had "thaws" but they don't last for weeks or months.
The rivers I haven't seen frozen over once this year because of the warm temperatures. Usually, you know, they freeze at the start of winter and stay that way until spring. They froze over during the 2 day polar vortex back in Feb, but melted right away afterwards.
Because we aren't staying consistently at or below freezing, things keep freezing and thawing, and it's really messing up the roads and asphalt this year. The roads are going to be bad this spring. Another overlooked aspect of climate change, more money spent on infrastructure. During the polar vortex a water main broke behind my apartment too, rapid freezing and thawing will do that.
Back in December we had a once in a generation "wind storm," another very unusual event. 100+ mph gusts all day, knocked down tons of trees, at one point the whole state was without power.
A few weeks ago I went to my local gas station to get some drinks one night, and some old dude is in there ranting at the cashier about "the gays" and I presume transpeople. It was really, really weird. He yells "what is a man anymore? I'm a 'cis-man' now?" or something like that, very visibly agitated. And I'm thinking to myself, we just went through two major severe weather events, unusual events where people died, and you're actually freaking out about "the gays"? I feel blackpilled, at the fact that we're facing an existential crisis, yet all the old people can do is complain about gay people and abortion. Not to mention all the other more pressing issues like homelessness and suicide and drug "overdoses" (many overdoses are really suicides) among young people especially, all which have been increasing year over year here.
I just went to Boston for surgery a month ago. Anyone here from Boston? It was so nice. The people were so nice compared to here. The vibe is very different. I'm not sure how to describe it. I feel like out here in rural areas people are more bitter and mean compared to the city. And I wonder why that is? Maybe because rural America is declining and collapsing but the cities are doing well? I did notice in Boston there was a lot of very obvious gentrification going on, like brand new expensive high rise apartments close to poor neighborhoods. But a lot of new buildings in general compared to the last time I was there 20 years ago. I'd love to live there but could never afford it unless I had family to split the rent with me.
Nearing That Bingo.

Hey mods throw this garbage out please. Or are you guys even more useless than before?
Everyone should get a chance to peak off more than just 'Always Sunny' references.
Might I suggest a candy flip with a dash of nitrous. You will peak and it will peek right back at you.
I believe the doomish vibe on the sub (understatement) is a necessary state for the grief process to take place in people, and doesn't make the community unpleasant in itself. These are necessary conversations and yes, they tend to be glum. You don't go into a cancer ward singing and shouting "Hoorayyyyy this is GREAT!" (though maybe you should...but that's a post-doom subject and I digress).
I think what's biased about this sub is that once [if] the grief process is done, people tend to move on to the real world and live in the present moment, leaving doomscrolling behind, which results in a disproportionate amount of fatalistic and depressed users at any given time on the sub. Think of a rehab clinic: once people are cured, they don't hang around at the clinic, they fuck off and go live their new lives. This sub is a rehab clinic for hopium addicts. Not everyone gets better, but for the percentage that do, it's worth the whole shebang.
This process of "once you're better you go do your thing" is one I've observed among my IRL friends, and also some famous collapseniks who suddenly stop prevention efforts and media appearances and just go live a quiet life with their loved ones (eg Pablo Servigne in France)
_Obligatory disclaimer: it takes a certain amount of socio-economic luck, AKA privilege, to be able to transition to a happy healthy post-doom life. Nonetheless, I don't think it invalidates my observations._
Obviously, it's hard to prove the above observations because this is a community of internet strangers. However, I've noticed familiar usernames here disappear over time, being replaced by new 'regulars'. In my own experience, this 'hopium rehab' journey has been incredibly enriching, even though the sub's vibe has remained reliably glum over the three years I've been here.
Now in response to your comment about leaving the sub behind:
Some r/collapse users appear to choose to stay here for years to help others walk into, through, and out of the abyss. There are many roles to play, and all are important. For example, in my case, about three years ago u/dumnezero and u/Capn_Underpants walked [or rather yanked? 😅] me out of hopium and into doom, then later u/mbdowd helped me walk out of it. These were super necessary parts of the grief process. These people are still around, helping others. And today, OP u/Amazon8442 reminded me about the power of local, small-scale 'obviously good' actions I can take to find more meaning in my day-to-day life.
If you're able to see the bright side, and enjoy hanging around on r/collapse, it makes sense to keep visiting here, not necessarily for yourself but to transmit your insights to others. Doing this will help your own mental health too. It's like Ram Dass says: "We're all just walking each other home."
This planet is so ghetto.
I mean, couldn't a bunch of divers with a few suction tubes and boats with containers accomplish the task? That shouldn't be too expensive and they might even find volunteers with boats and volunteer divers who just want to make the ocean a better place to do it. The only thing really needed would be portable pumps to suck the pollutant away and containers.
How deep is the coast near the island anyway? I have diving equipment but unfortunatly I am half the planet away from that place.
A collapse map - Week 12Hi fellow collapsniks,
Week 12 of my collapse maps.
As a reminder, I'm making this map every week, it is color coding countries regarding their collapse status. It ranges from green (the country is functioning & far from a collapse) to black (the country has totally collapsed). Details of the color ranges at the bottom of the post. The collapse status is *different from the standards of living*, wealth, happiness, or political regime (even if it is related).
\- That map is *not* a forecast nor its intent is to forecast collapse. It is a glimpse on the immediate, current state of things.
\- This is also not meant to be "the ultimate truth" about collapse for every country. It's only my personal point of view on the collapse situations in the world. In the end, you may agree or disagree with the colors and I'm always happy to discuss and debate, still the point is not to get to an unanimous agreement, but more to trigger the discussion.
\- Please note that having a far right or even **dictatorial government** has nothing to do with collapse *directly*. It may even be the opposite: authoritarian measures, on the short term, are ensuring the stability of a society, thus preventing immediate collapse. To be clear: I'm not advocating for those measures or this type of government. But still, it is a temporary shield against collapse.
**Updates since** [last week](https://www.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/11tj80q/a_collapse_map_week_11/)**:**
\- **New Zealand:** turning green again. I had them yellow following the massive floods (and earthquake) 1 month ago, but being a wealthy Western country, they're recovering quickly, and I don't consider the country to be "in a crisis" anymore.
\- **France**: It's staying yellow. The government didn't get impeached, but the [protests](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/mar/24/why-macrons-pension-reforms-have-stoked-so-much-anger-in-france-protests)are being more and more violent. Every night there are unrests in all major cities, with intense fights against police, fires... In the last days some parts of major cities (Toulouse, Paris) got their electricity shutdown. Highways, ports, refineries, industrial areas... Are getting blocked since days. [Fuel is starting to lack in a few thousands gas stations](https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/french-power-sector-battered-again-by-ongoing-strikes-2023-03-23/). Honestly it looks now at least as big as the yellow jackets crisis years ago. Today's protests gathered between [1M & 3.5M](https://www.foxnews.com/world/france-protests-draw-1m-force-king-charles-delay-visit-anger-retirement-changes) people (government numbers vs protesters numbers), making them the biggest ones in the last 50 years.
\- **Venezuela** is staying black. I got a comment last week highlighting the situation there, arguing that it's starting to recover. I disagree; there are some hopes and first signs of recovery, that's true, but so far nothing has changed in terms of daily life for the population. The famous new oil reserves are unfortunately a false hope, as those are physically [extremely complex to extract](https://www.stabroeknews.com/2021/08/20/business/venezuelas-oil-reserves-doomed-to-become-the-worlds-largest-stranded-asset/).
\- **Ukraine:** I'm hesitating to put them in yellow again. They're still at war but Russia's assault is less and less harsh, despite the additional mobilization. What do you think?

As usual please give me your comments, critics, and please challenge my classifications!

**Reminder of the colors meaning:**
\- Green is a functioning country. That does *not* mean the country is a good country to live in. North Korea is green, in the sense that it is functioning and it does not look like it will collapse anytime soon. Still, I know, it's one of the worst dictatorships in the world, with concentration camps, nuclear threats on their neighbors, and population being more or less enslaved, malnourished and brainwashed. But unfortunately the regime there is pretty strong and stable since a while, so it is green under a collapse perspective. Same kind of reasoning applies for oil-blessed Middle East countries: Human, women and LGBT rights are not a thing there, still those countries are (ultra) rich and functioning correctly, as of today. Green examples: Germany, Qatar, Israel, Japan.
\- Yellow means the country is in a serious crisis. There are large-scale troubles ongoing that are altering the normalcy of the daily life for most of the population. Still not a catastrophic state for the population. Nationwide protests in the streets are not a crisis; but if it leads to civil unrest at a significant scale (like overthrowing the parliament - as in Suriname or Brazil), then it could be a crisis.
Fuel or food shortages for a significant part of the population are a crisis, *if* that is a new thing. Having a poor/malnourished population since years or decade is not a crisis per se, because it's the normal (read stable) state of things there. A unexpected and sudden full government change may or may not be a crisis, depending on how it's happening. Canada is yellow, as it suffers multiple "small" crises at the same time: housing, healthcare, inflation, homelessness, climatic...
The crisis in yellow countries is not that major that it may trigger a full collapse in the short term. Examples: US, UK, Russia, Brazil, Suriname.
Adding a note for a country to go from green to yellow: the "crisis" has to be recent. If a country is in an ongoing economic crisis with some fuel shortages, or suffering gang wars, but steadily since 2009, then it's not a crisis, it's the new normalcy for that country. In that case it is green as it is still a functioning country, despite the bad (but stable) conditions there. Most of Latin American countries are in that case. Take Colombia: it is suffering from gang wars since decades. And it hasn't collapsed since then. Those gang wars are a shame, but it's part of their normalcy.
\- Red means the country is close to collapse. It has major structural issues and ongoing crises and could collapse quickly, under a few months or weeks. Examples: Libya, Myanmar, Pakistan.
\- Black means the country has collapsed already and completely. Whether it's economically (Venezuela), societally/structurally (Haiti), or suffering a full scale civil war (Yemen), or all at once... Examples: Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria. So far 9 countries in the world are considered collapsed on this map.
Too many people is still one of the problems. I don't speak for culling the population but it would be best if we stopped having so many children.
My retirement plan is dying of dehydration and dysentery in a refugee camp on the Canadian border, then buried in a mass grave.
>The NSA knows if you’re a threat even before you do.
"The Bell" conspiracy theory. The idea is that the reason why the NSA/CIA/others are so focused on collecting tons of data (even though the vast majority is useless) is to create a predicative algorithm that will be used to keep the people inline. Edit: Useless data like what types of cakes your mom likes or what Youtube videos you watch. The government collects as much as it can, so much so that it's impossible for a human operative to do it.
Example: Your data from every social media you use (like google, Tiktock, etc) will be used to create a profile of what you believe and what actions you will likely take.
So, if you like rock music and lean left, and the algorithm notices that you have gotten advertisements for a left leaning rock band in your area, than it will predict whether you will go or not with a fairly high success rate. It will also take into consideration things like your bank balance, how long you saw the advertisement, and your work schedule.
Essentially, the government would have near complete and total control of the population, with minimal effort needed they would be able to tell who will resist and who won't.
I heard that the French used molotov cocktails with Styrofoam dissolved in gasoline. Similar to Napalm. Those crazy French people! lol
Yes I agree it depends on what collapse looks like but we are chatting in a thread in which collapse looks like the death of 7/8 of the human population. Since that won't happen overnight, it will be a slow then fast authoritarian escalation until then followed by increased violence.
I agree it's not worth worrying about, especially since in a situation like that, you and I are unlikely to be among the billion that survive rather than the seven billion that die, so whatever.
we all are just worthless
did you forget to take your meds today?
Scientists Fear Bird Flu Surge as Billions of Birds Start to Fly Home
Well he sounds like a piece of shit.
The problem I have with this sort of thinking is that it assumes that the hierarchies and weapons and industrial capacity in society will just disappear and everything will be leveled out and the people with survival skills will fare better.
But that's not what will happen. There will be increasing fortification and doubling down on power structures, use of the police state and border walls and all of that. Long before you get the chance to live off your farm with those skills, some sort of police force, armed agents of the very rich and/or organized crime, will come and take it from you. They're going to take most of the land, they will dominate the roads and the supply chains and the ports and all of that long before we get to the point that everything just collapses. They already have plans like that in place (they just say it's for preparing for a contested invasion/occupation). They already have military and police training camps and have a lot of experience operating in civilian populations all over the world. They will ramp all that shit up in full force long before you get to be a skilled farmer. The road between now and the deaths of billions isn't short- it's probably going to be generations of increasing authoritarianism under extreme shortages. If the ruling class doesn't put you in a camp, what's to stop roving bands of desperate people from taking your cattle at gunpoint?
I just don't get how people think any of their skills could possibly be useful in a collapse like we are imagining here. Look at the migrant crisis right now, the millions of people fleeing their homelands. Do you guys think none of those people have handy real life skills? Most people on the planet still live relatively close to the land. Not everyone is as alienated from the products of their labor the way workers in the US are.
They don't understand much, I pity them. They run on xanax, anti depressants, sleeping pills, beer from 4pm on... while at the same time think they've found the formula on how to live.
I lived in Colorado for two years, so know exactly what you are talking about.
Don't get me started on the $75k Alzheimer's drug the FDA knows isn't effective and causes brain bleeding. In crazy times, going against the crowd becomes necessary
i’m ignoring you cause your annoying and full of shit so stop fucking harassing me lol. fucking moron.
This baffles me to no end. Like, nobody WANTS to hear about another pandemic. It sucks all around. But just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it isn't happening or won't affect you...and I guess that's where I differ from the idiots out there, because they truly seem to believe that "out of sight, out of mind" is an appropriate worldview for pretty much everything. Infuriating.
If there is one country that is serious about weather, it’s Germany. Any hopes of fixing things would be there, but I will be a good German and be pessimistic.
It’s doctor approved for some chronic illness. I don’t wish to discuss my current situation as it is personal. But people thinking they know what is good for you is ridiculous. All this antibiotics hate is misguided. Using antibiotics off label is bad. And prescribing them when not needed causes resistance. But they save lives when used proper and definitely have a place in chronic illness
>It's political suicide to advocate for an end to economic growth
Only because the robber barons are in charge of the Politicians.

So 2 days ago When I said environmentalists are bringing the collapse, I was correct even though my post was removed by mods after being downvoted by all the climate alarmists?
Too funny.
Shouldn’t you have your head buried in the sand or something?
Hahahaha i don’t know which planet you live in but inflation has not been decreasing. I seen it in the stores everywhere and lots of people are always telling me the prices are always going higher, and i run my own food business so i see the increases first hand. You being a economist dont mean shit your just another main stream media puppet, WAKE UP.
I know your comment is just a "gotcha!" troll and you're not engaging in good faith, but your comment got me curious about Reddit's carbon emissions and so I looked it up.
I found a couple sites that evaluate Reddit's footprint and it turns out it's among one of the worst sites. Looks like I'm done using this site. I already got rid of my only other social media, (Facebook) last year, so this won't be much of a loss.
So yes, reddit should shut down their servers lmao. Maybe then people like you would go outside.

The loudest voice calling for dramatic Big Tech break up in the upcoming 2024 presidential election might not come from President Joe Biden or progressive lefties, but rather, from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The conservative governor and probable presidential candidate revealed his views at a private event caught on video, where he said dominant tech firms like Google and Meta are “ruining our country” and should be broken up. In his view, Big Tech behemoths are worse for society than Standard Oil and other monopolistic industry titans from the Gilded Age, he said.

Yeah, I agree. Consumption would have to decrease. There is an argument to be made that if "green" sources of energy had been given the same the attention and research dollars that have gone into petroleum products for the last 120 years, we'd be in a far more comparable position in terms of energy density, efficiency, etc.
The other thing too is that lithium ion batteries and solar panels are almost 100 percent recyclable (not sure about wind turbines). I mean so is gasoline but it's a far more energy and resource intensive process.
At the end of the day all I'm saying is, we have the tools to do it, without culling 7 billion people. Contrary to OPs thesis and what the capitalists would have you believe. Although as long as the few control the world's resources and are only motivated by profit, we have no chance.
We could be living in a nuclear (relative) utopia, but no some rich cuck oil barrens had to fear monger to stay in power and rob the generations to come of their future
Someone's reading comprehension is in the toilet. It means the temperatures have risen at a higher rate than in recent years, which indicates that heating is accelerating. The ocean heats up all the time because of this thing called the sun?
As if I'm gonna trust some loser on reddit who can barely type over the Washington Post, the UN and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the first place. Fuck off troll, there's no place for you in this conversation if you're that misinformed.
No they really aren't. What kind of energy would it take to heat up the oceans in the last few weeks? lol You guys will believe anything if it jives with your emergency state of mind.

Let’s place some bets. What could this mean for northern hemisphere summer? I bet another heat dome in west coast North America, hurricane season past letter k, and drought all across Europe/ North Africa.
Well he sounds like a piece of shit.
If we were run by enlightened despots, it would be possible, maybe, to convince enough of the right people to change societies. We are for the most part run by a mix of imperfect democracies and secret or not-so-secret cartels. We don't even really know who runs the cartels, and the electorates are all brainwashed by cartel-owned and -influenced media.
So, yeah, "the economy" is a stupid justification for collective suicide. How will we change trajectory in the time we have to resolve this in a controlled fashion? If this were a plane, it would be time to put on the parachutes. A controlled landing is not a high-probability outcome.

This article may not seem immediately collapse-related, and, in fact, for the most part it "just" examines the lies and propaganda behind those that started the Iraq invasion and used it to further enrich themselves. However, it's apparent that conflicts and wars such as this one are a symptom of a collapsing empire (namely, the American one).
The article is related to collapse because it highlights how ruling classes create artificial enemies and spread propaganda to prolong and solidify their rule and maintain the current system. As time progresses and other causes of collapse increasingly take effect, we can expect many more such conflicts. I think it's useful to study historic examples and, as members of the working class, learn from it. Next time, they could draft people (as is happening right now in Russia & Ukraine).

You cultists are hilarious. You need to actually read expert opinions on this subject, not dudebros on WSB man. I can't even imagine being this ignorant yet this confident. This is sad.
>That was really good and surprisingly politically non-biased
Please don't think I'm trying to be a complete asshole to you, but the only people who think being "politically non-biased" is important are people who are so politically uneducated that I frankly have no words for it, and who don't understand that the vast overwhelming majority of all of our issues today in this nation are due to Republicans, full stop.
As Republicans strip us of our rights, use Nazi propaganda tactics, pack our courts and supreme court with unqualified partisan extremists, their leadership exclaims publicly that they're domestic terrorists, obstruct anything remotely actually useful to anyone and attempt to overthrow our democracy to install Trump as a dictator, politically uneducated people like yourself have begun to *boil my fucking blood*.
Did you not exist for the past 6 years? How in the absolute *fuck* can you not see what's been happening?

Did you see how Tucker Carlson purposely and *completely* misrepresented what happened on January 6th, doctoring footage heavily?
They're out here creating full blown, in-your-face doublethink propaganda and people like you want to carry water for these fascists and sit around and proclaim we need to "listen to both sides," fuck outta here.

Mm-hm, have you tried to convince others that Covid is causing these effects? Have you tried to get them to do anything whatsoever to protect themselves?
I printed out relevant articles, study abstracts, etc. put them in a binder and gave it to a friend to read. I made two presentations to give a friend over Zoom. I spoke to others about my own experiences with Covid over the phone.
Generally, they acknowledge the possibility somewhat, then start asking questions that reveal a mental process of trying to downplay it and make it somehow my unique situation rather than something that could affect or be affecting them, etc.
They seem to have either no awareness or memory of their own difficulties finding words, keeping track of time, feeling periodically dazed and confused, etc. Some are starting to show signs of poor judgement financially.
At least one person I tried to convince that wearing an N95 mask could protect her ended up having a stroke since then. She was surprised then troubled when I mentioned wearing a mask. She had lost that memory and thanked me for reminding her.
Another person I've tried to warn finds the information too stressful and reacts to everything with religious coping. Lately his daughter became unable to run competitively and got anemia. Now he absolutely refuses to hear any news about Covid and seems psychiatrically on the edge.
An older family member who's been scared of dementia ever since her mother died from it was getting severe headaches and felt dismissed by doctors who blamed it on anxiety and migraines. I asked her to wear an N95 around others for a month and see if her condition improved or even went away (which is what I found for myself). She agreed then the next time we spoke she said that her husband told her 'masks don't work' and asked me if I was really sick or just stressed. Since then, she's shown signs of unusually poor reading comprehension on social media.
For any disease that damages the brain, lack of insight is a problem. They can't tell or remember being impaired, so why would they believe me over their own experience? They will never feel enough of a sense of urgency or threat so long as they first downplay the situation to reduce their anxiety, then second, progress far enough along that they lose insight into their own degenerating condition.
Hopefully, the condition is temporary or self-limiting for most people and this will all come to nothing for them. They will continue to be lucky and feel no regrets about their choices.
But based on the Long Covid figures, as much as one in three will take significant, probably permanent damage. For those, it seems likely that the memory impairment will ensure that they will continue to enjoy their self-imposed ignorant bliss.
*They didn't want to know. Then they became incapable of knowing...*
It could be a good tag line for this horror movie we're living.
No, you're right. A little solar panels here, a few wind turbines there, and we'll suck up two trillion tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere within a couple years, and we'll replace the 100M barrels of oil we use each day with unicorn farts and vegan burger patties that taste like human flesh! No problem at all.

Hey dumb motherfucker: Solar PV is already the cheapest power source that has ever existed in human history. Adopting that everywhere would SAVE money for most people.
For everyone: carry narcan always and know the signs of an opioid overdose. You can save someone's life and it's super easy to administer. An overdose looks like pinpoint pupils, blue lips, rattling/gurgling, not breathing, not able to be woken up. If you have someone exhibiting these signs, administer one dose of narcan and call 911. Wait 2 mins and if no improvement, dose em again. If they've stopped breathing on their own at all, rescue breathing is recommended if you are comfortable with it. pinch nose, lean their head back, breathe into their mouth every 5-6 seconds. Generally these people do not need CPR. CPR is only required if their heart is not beating.
For people using any kind of drugs: always test your shit to the best of your ability before using. Fentanyl test strips and other reagent tests are available through dancesafe. I wouldn't waste them on anything presumed opiate because it's always going to be positive for fentanyl - but cocaine, meth, mdma, pressed pills - test. Get the ratio right! follow the instructions otherwise you can have false negative/positives. Next, use fresh clean equipment, metal straws that are yours alone, a clean surface, clean syringes, whatever. Next, use in small increments. You can always add more, not take away. Next, never use substances you are unfamiliar with alone. New batches can be unpredictable. Always have someone able to help nearby or call the hotline for don't use alone. They will just ask your location and stay on the phone with you to ensure that you are okay.
For people using illicit opiates / xylazine: All of the above applies. If you don't have access to clean needles, you can order them on amazon. Narcan should be available at pharmacies or health departments. Do research and always have these things. In addition, be aware of sores developing around injection sites. Early intervention is best. The best practice is the xeroform wraps with bismuth in em if you can order those. I've seen that to heal them up better than anything else before they become giant craters. Switch up the location you are injecting. Try to transition to smoking or snorting if possible. You may still develop issues, but it's less dramatic than injecting. I've heard of people shooting up once in the morning and then smoking all day to maintain, that way they give their skin more of a chance to heal. Don't use alcohol or peroxide on open wounds to dry em out. Just clean with a dial soap and warm water.
It is absolutely true that a lot metals are smelted in electric arc furnaces, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Thanks to thermal expansion, it can be quite catastrophic on the machinery used to carry out high temperature industrial processes to be allowed to cool down so that is avoided as much as possible. So while it is theoretically possible to smelt metals and do other high temperature processes using the intermittent so-called renewables, the massive overcapacity required to avoid costly power disruptions is why it has yet to happen in reality.
Furthermore, when it comes to solar PV, the Siemens Process is the one mostly used to purify metallurgical silicon into polisilicon and it is a multi-day high temperature chemical vapour deposition that also cannot tolerate power disruptions. [Source](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/361250287_Troszak_TA_2021_The_hidden_costs_of_solar_photovoltaic_power_NATO_ENSEC_COE_Energy_highlights_Vol_16_pp_22_Copyright_2021_NATO_Energy_Security_Center_of_Excellence_httpsenseccoeorgdatapublicuploads202)
I've been attacked and called a fossil fuel shill for posting that article here before, so I have done some background research on it and the author. Turns out he opened a project on ResearchGate in 2011 where he hoped to be the first to be able to prove the viability of 'solar breeding' (using solar to make solar) through a meta analysis of the literature. He updated it in 2019 that after reviewing thousands of papers from all varieties of sources he still didn't have enough information to be comfortable giving an estimate and then he wrote a scathing indictment of solar and especially the dishonest way in which it is sold to the public. And by scathing indictment, I of course mean that he provided a detailed explanation of how they are made which very clearly highlights how they are anything but "clean" or "renewable". The point I found most interesting is that when cutting the wafers, around half of the material is lost to sawdust. Also this great line:
>Other than the continual deforestation necessary to provide the wood chips and charcoal used in PV manufacturing, no part of any PV power systems are self-reproducing in nature.
Sorry for the long comment, but I also recently revisited the controversy around the Siebert & Rees paper and I still agree with them that their critics, if they even read the paper, did not understand it. I couldn't help but notice the second author on the Fthenakis paper this time. Anyone who has attempted to get a handle on EROEI should be familiar with him because he really seems to be the reason that it is such a wasted concept. It's an interesting theory that is useful for explaining resource depletion, but a group of academics, of which Raugei appears to be the most prominent, have used it and some very questionable methodology to pretend the so-called renewables are equivalent to the fossil fuels in terms of EROEI. They are the ones that run highly theoretical models where every solar panel is perfectly oriented and every day is cloudless for the entirety of their "30-year" lifespan and nothing ever goes wrong. Seriously, [in his response](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0301421517302914) to Ferroni & Hopkirk, he assumed 0% downtime!
[He also attempted to get Prieto & Hall's book, Spain's Solar Revolution, censored](https://energyskeptic.com/2017/tilting-at-windmills-spains-disastrous-attempt-to-replace-fossil-fuels-with-solar-pv-part-2/) because they found, using real world data, that in sunny Spain, the EROEI of solar is less than 3:1. I have no doubt Prieto & Hall went the book route because they knew they would never get passed the academic gatekeepers, but that should not be an indictment of them.
One last note, in their reply to Diesendorf, Siebert & Rees mention that:
>We were therefore somewhat surprised that most of the comments and
questions that have come to us in private communications have been
markedly positive, many expressing gratitude for seeing such unpopular
yet evidence-based and common-sense assertions in a public forum. Some
have expressed relief for no longer feeling like a lone voice or that
they have privately held the same view but have been reluctant to
express it for fear of backlash.
Which is very similar to what we hear on the climate. I like to believe it's true, because the opposite is even worse.

Honestly, you aren't contradicting the fairly dire article, just making it worse.
And both of you forgot one thing - there will be a long time delay between the permafrost melting and the water going away. When the permafrost melts, you get a great big bog, which will take decades if not centuries to dry, if it ever does.
Two slight quibbles:
> These lands will have to go through biomass decomposition or mineralization to become agronomically fertile. This is the process of "soil growth", it takes thousands of years to get a decent layer.
This is one of the very few things that technology could fix faster, if technology still existed. The energy and raw materials are there in the permafrost, they "just" need to let out. If our technology continues to improve, in 50 years having some genetically engineered bug or plant that could break this down in decades seems quite doable.
> The soils are also very polluted, naturally and from human pollution accumulated in the last two centuries.
I don't know about the self-pollution! The human pollution thing is only going to be for a tiny portion, however: most of the world's permafrost are in areas where humans never venture, even to pollute.
None of my quibbles fix any of the issues, but tighten the case for the prosecution a bit.
If you have no idea how intersectionality works, then you should stay quiet on it. Same as how you expect people who don't know how science work to shut up.
Safety ? Oh yeah, I really tought that for some time. Not happening. We're completely fucked here, as people pretend to be "conservative" but are ok with any kind of new high-tech while not keeping the old systems that works.
And we pollute our soils the same way you do, in the most retarded way, while we know we're killing the microbiological undersoil lifeforms. But sure, do imagine I somehow have access to a special swiss bunker or that I'll eat the food we cannot produce without NPK fertilizers (that we need to import, to burn down life in the soil).
I doubt your wishes will be fullfilled. I pray for fucking chaos as soon as possible, as any other kind of lifeform besides us wouldbe so fucking thrilled to see our worthless, pathetic and sad civilization crumble if they could understand the scope of what we did.
I feel like I’m in a schizophrenic situation. I work at one of the largest corporates in Australia. I can have conversations with people all around me and fairly senior management about collapse topics and they wholeheartedly agree. Then their actions say the complete opposite - they fly around the world, eat out, hardly anyone is vegan, drive their super-expensive cars to work instead of catching public transport, lots of luxuries etc etc
These people are all mostly wealthy so the way I read the situation is they know collapse is coming but the attitude is that it’s not their problem.

Psychological preppingI’m wanting to start a discussion on the different things one can start doing in hopes of preparing for the mental toll a collapse might take. The biggest issue I see is the amount of death and suffering one might experience or have to live through. Is this something that relies on thought or does it take running through multiple scenarios to have a framework to rely on?

Bottom line: nothing can help (most of) us except radical structural change in the way we approach political economy.
Take your skillset and to put it to work in service of that. This includes everything from local adaptation to radical organizing to writing books and articles (although the latter aren't worth much without the former).
Part of radical political economic change includes confronting the unviability of *all* our existing and industrial-age structures. There's a lot of inventing to do, and a lot of hands needed at it. A hydrological engineering skillset won't give a person privileged insight into questions of human motivation and meaning, but it absolutely needs to be a part of collective structure-imagining and -making (in which we all learn from and with one another's domains of knowledge).
EDIT: also, congrats on being in remission! I wish you good things!!
Ffs this is pure speculation with ZERO facts

I am talking to you about banking services, derivative instruments, smart contracts, decentralized computing, etc, and you are replying to me with:
"How its supposed to be a currency?"
I dunno my dude, you could go to Citygroup and ask the info desk how they are supposed to be a currency LOL
The currency function is only the tip of the iceberg of what blockchain can do. And it is used as a currency, as well as an investment instrument.
Remember when some of us realized people like you don’t understand…..well….anything?
I remember when they said that was the year 2000. Then 2010 and 2020.
Any decade now.

Technically it would affect any "free range" broiler chickens since they go outside. It's the ones trapped indoors, the ones bred to grow so fast that their skeleton gives out, that are the least exposed.
A poem I wrote inspired by my experiences and perspectives over the course of the pandemic.Breaking Wheel
We wake with stitches
over our eyes—
born at the mercy of the future,
still somehow able
to see shreds of light
through blindness,
but with no fair warning
of what fresh hell
our forebears forged—
awaiting manufactured fate
with bated breath.
We are fattened up
and fed—unwilling and unaware—
to this cruel, churning,
man-made machine;
the American dream,
a nightmare made manifest:
work… eat…
sleep… reproduce…
then decompose;
consumption at the center of our culture,
chewing ourselves away,
our children doomed
to face this same end.
Yet we are comfortable with conformity,
refusing to face a fragile reality;
confined to the container
in which our flesh-bound
form was poured,
convincing ourselves
there is no better way than this.
The writer’s of this timeline
are victors of a silent war,
waged neither with bombs nor bullets
but instead ideas and words;
cathedrals carefully constructed
to worship ourselves in solitude;
a self-induced mass-psychosis.
The bonds of unity lie broken,
our autonomy and sovereignty
stripped silently overnight
with the fatal crash
of a judge’s gavel.
Now Dogma’s chains
shackle us from hands to feet—
Our hearts encased in concrete caskets
so they may sink
through the bottom of our bodies,
separating self from soul
as we march along
the assembly line
from our cradles
to our graves.
We are raised
to be sanded down
by callous hands—
uncaring,
set on the destruction
of our nature,
and brimming with contempt;
our “faults” laid bare
and flogged out
like dust from old tapestries;
our wax worn away
to bare wireframe;
a brittle candle
reduced to ash by the heat
of a blistering crucible.
But we must crawl on
through break and bend,
trampled by the traumas of our ancients,
inheriting epics
of our very own:
the totality of our bloodlines;
a cacophony of colliding lifetimes;
the culmination of all mankind’s mistakes;
a house of cards caving in
on the next generation.
The gruesome wheels of history
come crushing down
with every revolution;
Samsara spins,
an ageless mandala—
the beautiful Katamari
rolling mercilessly onwards—
its violent tessellations piercing
any and every
possibility of hope.
Its cancerous mass,
with tendrils like roots that spread—
that breathe and bleed,
seeping deep beneath
an ancient, rotted
tree that weeps—
branches out to a billion other lives
unmet and unknown:
the nameless,
the faceless,
the voiceless.
The countless others—
the hungry in the street,
and those in their manors
with hoarded riches, too—
one day will die;
unseen by time,
unheard by God,
like felled trees
with no watcher
in the woods.
You misspelled American oligarchical duopoly system.

Late Victorian Holocausts: El Niño Famines and the Making of the Third World by Mike Davis — An online reading group discussion on Monday, March 20, open to everyone
Funny you should make this post, I've just finished the specialisation chapter of Tainters book and it reminded me of my school year.
Only a handful of us didn't go to university and those of us who didn't, many went on to do blue collar work, be it machinists like myself, or plasterers, plumbers, brickies etc.
We have ended up being far more skilled and productive than most of those who went to uni who now work behind a bar, work in warehouses and call centres, not the field they specialised in.
The writing really is on the wall and I fear that if you aren't really interested in this subject you have no idea what's coming down the pipe.
What hypothetical event (events) will change your mind about the certainty of collapse?I get the impression that a lot of people here are sure that collapse is going to happen sooner or later. So my question to you is: what kind of event or series of events should happen to change your mind about this? Not necessarily prove that collapse isn't possible, but make you doubt that it will happen for sure.
It will continue to get worse or collapse - yet some people still cling to hopiumThings just cant get better. Debt-Inflation-wage Stagnation - resource consumption pollution: All of this has reached a level where even a reduction/improvement by 20% means nothing. If a reduction/improvement can even take place.
No going vegan - no green energy - no debt reduction can turn this around. Yet there are still people on hopium claiming that we will prevail. Its ludicrous.
Social pressure to specialise, when specialisation promises death come collapse. There's so much social pressure to follow old paradigms and make oneself reliant on a dying system. People push their ideologies of specialisation onto others and the cultural perception continues.
Following outdated culture will almost certainly get you killed come collapse. Specialisation within society is required because civilisation is so complex, but that's only reliable so long as civilisation stands. Once civilisation crashes and a study from MIT predicts 2040, specialisation will count for little. Generalisation on the other hand, surrounding basic necessities, will count for everything.
So how can one keep sane when everyone else is obsessed with short-termism.
Is dumb or in enough denial to disregard evidence and would rather follow cultural standards whilst trying to push it on you lol?
Found the insurance salesman
So um, why the *fuck* do you think that AI which is programmed and controlled by those same sociopaths wouldn't emulate those same sociopathic characteristics? Like do you *actually think* AI can be "democratized"? What exactly were you smoking when you wrote this?
SS: Banks are allowed to lend out money they don't have, and then get bailed out by taxpayers when they fail due to their own greed and mismanagement. No bank executives ever go to prison for this. Meanwhile, they hit consumers with countless fees and penalties for every little thing and will take your property if you can't pay back your loans. The whole thing is a scam. The public doesn't seem to care enough to demand change and politicians are owned by banks, so this will continue.
Taiwan finds H9N2 bird flu, orders close monitoring of 21 people and culling of 4,551 chickens on Kinmen.
This is related to collapse because a new viral spread, H9N2, instead of H9N1, could be a new vector that leads to spread between animals and humans or lead to a greater culling of chicken stocks, which would further reduce available food stuffs, placing more pressure on people when food prices are already rising due to inflation and accelerate collapse of communities, especially poorer communities.
Disallowing overdrafts can be worse. Banks with this predatory practise often have a worse one, where if you have no overdraft, you'll get slapped with a large fee for returned direct debits. And if it's a transaction that cannot be stopped, e.g. paying for fuel, they'll force you into overdraft anyway. And charge you for the privilege.
Ask me how I know all this.
Having an overdraft, even a small one that you never intend to use, can be a better buffer than having a hard zero line.
Having banks that are "too big to fail" but that are also private instead of government-owned is fucking retarded. It's basically putting the structure of society in the hands of profit-seeking morons rather than something a bit more controlled and directed.
This is one area where China excels relative to the USA. Any institution there that is even remotely tied to the overall integrity of the society/economy is basically government-owned or managed.
Car insurance in the UK is enforced by law, enthusiastically I might add, but it's left to the free market to charge what it likes.
If you don't pay the money to the profit making private company, the police take your car and crush it. It's fucking psychopathic.
"Oh but you wouldn't want to get hit by an uninsured driver would you?"
No, but I wouldn't want to get pushed into the road by a pedestrian either, who wouldn't be required to have insurance.
Holy shit, what did he do to get a life sentence in adx? That's wild.
Huh, I wonder if there's some kind of system where society pays into a fund that acts as a kind of national insurance plan where the payout is guaranteed and you don't need to worry about some douche who wanted some extra cash so he said it's not *"applicable"* while paying for forced legislation using your money requiring you to have third party insurance that doesn't payout to begin with...
Weird, guess will never know, I'm sure our system is the best and has zero flaws that would never end in global catastrophe.
Only you can insure yourself for the future without getting robbed and fucked. And even then, bad luck can fuck you even harder than shitty insurance might have
Yeah I'm missing something alright I have no idea what you mean by this.

Using Chat GPT for AI powered collapse planningMy Question:
Society is on the verge of collapse due to climate change and grocery stores are soon to be empty. You have $500 to buy nutritional food to last 9 months until you can grow your own food, what are you buying and in what quantities?
************
Chat GPT 3.5’s Answer:
Given the scenario you presented, it is important to prioritize purchasing foods that are nutrient-dense, shelf-stable, and can provide a variety of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) to support overall health and well-being. Here are some suggestions for what to buy with a budget of $500:
1. Rice and beans: A staple combination that provides a complete protein, fiber, and carbohydrates. Buy 50 lbs of rice and 50 lbs of beans (black, pinto, or kidney).
2. Oats: A great source of fiber and complex carbohydrates. Buy 25 lbs of rolled oats.
3. Canned fish: A good source of protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Buy 50 cans of sardines or tuna.
4. Peanut butter: A good source of protein and healthy fats. Buy 20 jars of natural peanut butter.
5. Dried fruit and nuts: A good source of fiber, healthy fats, and micronutrients. Buy 10 lbs of mixed dried fruit and 10 lbs of mixed nuts.
6. Canned vegetables: A good source of vitamins and minerals. Buy 50 cans of mixed vegetables.
7. Powdered milk: A good source of calcium and protein. Buy 50 lbs of powdered milk.
8. Cooking oil: A source of healthy fats. Buy 10 liters of olive oil.
9. Spices and condiments: To add flavor and variety to your meals. Buy a variety of spices and condiments such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and hot sauce.
These quantities and choices are just a suggestion and may vary depending on your personal preferences and needs. It's important to also store your food properly in a cool, dry place to prolong its shelf life. Additionally, it's recommended to supplement your diet with any missing vitamins and minerals as needed.

Well, I was impressed with this list to say the least.

I know that everyone talks about the great Pacific Garbage Patch, but there’s actually a whole large island of garbage in the Atlantic Ocean too. [Heres a link that talks about it](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Britain)
It's retarded all the same everywhere.
You'd think Switzerland, one of the richest country on this planet, would be resilient and invest this money for us to be able to be self-sufficient in critical areas, such as food ?
Ah-ah-ah.
We'll probably collapse the hardest if supply-chains gets fucked up; because most of the people here are used to a very high-end level of living.
We are close to 100% unable to grow our own food if we cannot import chemical fertilizers.
Imagine the difference in 80 years; my grandmother had to live through the scarcity of WW2 and eat what she grew as food (potatoes, carrot, etc.). With a GDP that's like 100x or 1000x more, we are now unable to do that for most of our population, as we doubled in those 50-80 years.
Ahahah, it's so insanely stupid and retarded.
May the lobbyists that poured hundred of millions into "**we don't know** if that's unsafe for life or nature or humans", to gain billions while poisoning Nature, die an agonizing and painful death.
and the talk of using hundreds of dumptrucks to clear it out... like that's our response... hey let's use more fossil fuels and pump more carbon into the air to address this manmade problem that is interfering with tourism...humanity in a retarded nutshell
It’s a parody right?

Still I understand that this system is unsustainable, unfair, fucking up the planet my children are brought up in.
Continue being smug online man, real cool
I don’t get what’s so upsetting…has this sub really turned into a left wing cesspit where everyone blames others for their own unwillingness to work hard and buy land? Or are people actually spending time whining about an ad for bacon? This is so dumb.

I hate to be positive, but just because you haven't seen it in person doesn't mean it isn't worth exploring.
For instance. the Grand Canyon is amazing the first time you see it . Photos do it no justice. I didn't care who had seen it before me, but I'm sure they were just as amazed as I.
There's plenty of shit out there to explore that only a few people have seen outside of photos.
Anyways, I do see the truth in your post, but hiking and going off trail is my best form of self therapy when I'm able. Do what you can!
Yeah it’s too late and we are incapable of change.

Opting to discontinue?I'm trying to avoid any charged language, but this question is coming from a place of general contentedness and not personal emotional crisis.
On this and prepper subs, many are looking to weather collapse through predicting what might happen and how they can mitigate the worst effects for themselves & their families / communities.
I'm past my midlife crisis and don't have kids. I have friends and family I love, but I feel very at-peace with the idea that I won't be around forever.
I don't have the resources to prep and I don't really have the interest. At most, I want to be comfortable and shuffle off this mortal coil without resorting to say... cannibalism.
It's funny, I have an older friend who's extremely wealthy. Like probably top 0.001%. He enjoys his life very much, and when I've asked him about how he'd handle a SHTF or "barbarians at the gate" scenario, he just says, "Eh... I've had a pretty good run :)"
Anyone else feel like their best course of action is not to prepare with stockpiles and wilderness survival skills but to prepare to "opt out" when things get bad enough?
it tells me everything I need to know that you think you actually get taught anything close to a cohesive and non biased understanding of socialism/communism in a 'world history' class lmao

US capitalism is ‘breaking down before our eyes’, says Ken Griffin
I hate to be critical, but I would encourage the author to develop greater word comprehension. I found the grammar and narrative to be at the level of a grade 10 student. Maybe that’s just me. Anyway, as for the steps needed to avoid this “doomsday” - they are far too simplistic and actually part of the problem why nothing seems to ever get done. I could go into depth why each point as laid out is not possible to achieve, but I think some others have already gone into that.
The two biggest issues: 1. Fossil fuels are needed for agriculture beyond transportation. The article here doesn’t touch on this fact. How do we grow our food without the fertilizers made from theoretical banned fossil fuels? And 2. How do we just “build” the wind turbines and solar panels? The sheer scale of what would be needed to replace our energy production now plus allow for growth is monumental. Even if money was no object, where do we get the “energy” from to make this “renewable energy”? It has to come from a significant ramp up in fossil fuel energy production. Plus you need the skills, equipment, tools, Human Resources to actually do this, the work force would have to get trained. How can this be done in 8 years?
The most well adjusted people I knew were my grandparents who grew up in the economic devastation of the Great Depression and then the Second World War (they lived in a country that had rationing through the duration of, and period after, the war).
The most fucked up people I know are all the boomers in my life - they grew up in literally the richest period of human history, and they are absolute disasters emotionally and psychologically.
Hard times aren’t so bad for people. It’s just that we’re shit scared of losing our comfort.
It means that I don’t know anyone who has planned their way out of suffering and the only scenario that I can imagine it being even remotely possible is one where you do not leave your house, your family does not leave your house, and you have zero interaction with the outside world.
I'm from Coeur d'Alene. NIC's accreditation is still in question but the board has been ordered to reinstate the previous president. I'm not sure what Banducci's/KCRCC's move is going to be but things are still up in the air. This is probably a bit extreme but I kind of wouldn't be surprised if in a few years the school gets turned into a private christian college. There's a new charter school being built out on the prairie that is partnered (pushed by?) Hillsdale College out of Michigan. They use the term 'American Classical Education' a lot. For sure going to be a conservative factory lol.

This guy, Peter Thiel - funded Trump in 2016, was the one who spread panic about SVB which led to depositors withdraw funds en masse and lead to collapse of the said bank. Many of the depositors are small startups that are staring at ruin themselves through no fault of their own!

While I agree he's a piece of shit and acknowledge he started this bank run, there's still some glaringly obvious issues in financial markets.
"Banks are sitting on an estimated $620 billion worth of unrealized losses from Treasury, agency and MBS bonds following the surge in market interest rates that has swamped fixed income portfolios around the world."

That's actually a CIA narrative. Actual scientists think it escaped from a US bioweapons lab. https://www.thelancet.com/commissions/covid19
The China origin story doesn't make sense as wastewater testing shows COVID was in Europe and the US before it was detected in Wuhan. Also, the strain found in Wuhan is NEWER than the one found in Italy and later the US.

It literately got released from a bioweapons lab in Wuhan and the NPCs on this site are downvoting you. Amazing.

Working on bringing *The Third-Least Massive Piece of Shit* to a ballot box near YOU!
...well, no, "working" isn't the right word.
...what's *like* working, but you're mostly just getting the crap kicked out of you over and over again?
The most interesting part of all this for me is something that *rarely* happens on the internet.
Watching bootlicking class traitors and proletariats argue with each other in real time.
Even subs like /r/economics have amazingly high numbers of class conscious people getting into word fights with BAU supporters. This sort of thing *never* happens. Forums of any kind generally act as echo chambers and deviation isn't tolerated - people get pushed out if they deviate too far from acceptable norms. But this event has really galvanized capitalist opposition.
Idk about that. I watched a documentary the other day that said that old people are committing crimes like shoplifting and threatening women with knives so that they will be sent to prison so that they don’t have to pay for retirement or burden their children and grandchildren with paying for the grandma/grandpa’s living expenses. Also, millions of people in Japan die alone after languishing alone for decades (hikikomori) and even though it’s a widely recognized phenomenon the government barely lifts a finger. I think Japan is pretty much saying fuck the people. Let’s not forget people working 50+ hrs a week and never seeing their family, and the insane suicide rate.
I'll take your word for it.....
I’m personally one of those people that’s gonna eat a bullet or something in that range when everything comes down cuz fuck that
But for everyone who stays and works hard to rebuild I wish you all the best of luck and I pray you build something better on my ashes you deserve it
Wow, you have no actual interest in helping anyone. Good luck with that.
Every single 'breeder' family with a self-sustaining farm and community resources are going to survive and thrive much better than you are, no matter how much spite and rage you direct at them.
Maybe you should leave politics alone for a while. You’re 17–go outside and do teenager things. Whoever in your family is brainwashing you should be ashamed. Don’t be afraid to talk to a therapist.

An Often Overlooked Factor of the Collapse: The Technological Collapse
"Actually, 2022 might have been the last year when we still had something we could call civilization left."
So today is 3/12/2023. I just ordered doordash and it worked. Netflix is still running. And we just received a bunch of amazon next day delivery packages. Heck, I am still rant about the end of the world on reddit.
So I am going to call you wrong. 2022 is not "the last year when we still had something we could call civilization left." And if you are going to argue doordash, netflix, amazon and reddit are not civilization, i am going to laugh.
We are watching the collapse of the American empire. While many are watching with fear and despair. I prefer to look at it with the joy of seeing the consequences of your actions falling upon you.
You did it to yourself and forced it upon others. When time comes that you need saving we will laugh at you.
Watching this mountain crumble in front of me is so satisfying. I may die in the waves of the impact. But here I am having a blast at your suffering.
I may have not caused it. Nor have the ones your tortured and killed. You caused it on yourself. And that is the sweetest revenge
The most important question to answer is number three.
Yes, everyone is due collapse. All countries at every level of wealth and development will decline, those at the bottom will experience mass death sooner than those at the top, but they will all get there eventually.
Different strategies prevail in East and West, collectivism vs individualism. When times get tough then we will see which approach works better to slow the rate of civilizational death. Personally, I would bet on collectivism, despite the fact that I like you, despise what the CCP is doing. But really who knows? Maybe individualism will do better because of the strengths of diversity, freedom and liberty. It probably doesn't really matter though because the situation will become increasingly chaotic, unpredictable and will only keep getting worse.
Okay, about question one. Could the East dominate the West? Yes, short term, before they too inevitably collapse and fail somewhat later. I'd say no more than a decade later, because the collapse is accelerating over time. Things will get worse, faster and faster.
Question two. It's well known that when people have exhausted all practical means of saving themselves, they turn to religion out of desperation. I fully expect most people to become believers very quickly, very soon. Unless a new religion replaces Christianity, then it will make a massive comeback. Islam is not a good candidate, not only because there aren't enough Muslims to wage successful jihad, but also because it's too similar to Christianity to gain many converts. New religions take over because people become disillusioned with old ones, decide they don't work, and that some other religion that takes a different approach will work. I'd bet more on some sort of neo-pagan fascist pseudo-religion, like what happened in Nazi Germany, or as others said a heretical perverted Christo-fascism a la Handmaid's Tale. Or I guess more optimistically, transhumanism will take off and we'll bring about the Singularity? Ha! I wish...
As for Gen Z, as a group young people are more left-wing than older people. Part of that has to do with the stage of brain development at that time in life. Learning is still taking place and that requires open mindedness, a typical liberal trait. Another part has to do with continuing to be dependent on family still. Once your parents refuse to help you any longer or die, from what I've observed that's often when people become fully conservative, because they know they are on their own now completely. Individualism, selfishness, being cautious and judgmental, getting religion, being 'financially responsible', giving in to the desire to be armed, these increasingly become survival traits when you have no personal safety net.
Don't listen to criticism that Gen Z are too liberal. They said the same about Millennials and a third of them are MAGA assholes now. Another third are bystanders that don't give a shit about anyone but themselves and their own pocketbook. So, for most being liberal is just a stage in life, that's all.
Oh and IMO, the radical left Gen Z'ers are probably being manipulated by some sort of foreign funded disinformation campaign that's designed to encourage political division and violence in the form of terrorism and a persecutory backlash. (No different than the radical right). Maybe some of them will actually do something, like blow up a pipeline or whatever, but the vast majority are all talk. When it comes down to it, very few people are willing to go out like the Red Army Faction.

My suggestions for diverse news sources to get a better picture of reality:
For domestic news: one rightwing mainstream news source (fox news or something like that), one leftwing mainstream news source (msnbc, etc.), one public broadcaster (PBS).
For foreign news: British Commonwealth Nations: BBC, CBC, etc. German news: Deutsche Welle, Der Speigel, etc. East Asian News: NHK, Japan today, Arirang, etc.
For foreign propaganda: Anything from China like the South China Morning Post, Russian outlets like Sputnik and RT News.
As for Al Jazeera from Qatar, I don't know enough to say if it's propaganda or just biased. (Like everyone, everywhere at all times. Bias is a universal human trait to one degree or another).
Don't take anything on social media or youtube seriously at all. Basically, that's not news really. Social media is just whatever people connected to you think is interesting and usually they're no smarter than yourself. And Youtube is like giving every idiot and crazy person their own TV show. Don't trust anything on it unless it's from a major news outlet.
If you really want to be informed, you should also watch TV news very occasionally (mostly local news), subscribe to a newspaper, read magazines like Scientific American or National Geographic, and finally, read some actual books. If you go that far, it becomes increasingly easy to predict where the future is headed. This can actually become very personally useful, like knowing where to invest your money to get the best return, how to avoid future threats, things like that.
I used to think the good bugs and people saying we should never have given up the gold/silver standards, we’re just being old fogies. I think since Nixon took the USA off it in 72 iirc, that the economy has been faked. That’s basically when people’s income started to lag inflation and the middle class started to have trouble maintaining itself. It’s been gamed for 50 years now and it’s been outright fake since the dot com boom. I think you’re right, but the rot is deeper than many want to think
Remember kids: tens of thousands of years of pre-capitalist society never existed.
Buddy, the monarchists said the same thing about feudalism when it was on its way out. “But a king is the only way things can be run, society will fall apart without one!” Your mind is incredibly narrow.
I think america will fall apart into christianity and noveu-hinduism
I'm advising all awful people to move to Florida.
That would undoubtedly be designed, published and exploited by either this CEO's children or grandchildren. I bet you.
Here in Italy purchasing power collapsed dramatically over the last years, now we have the same cost of living of Germany but with half or even less the wages. Most of young people moved away (some of them even to Poland, Portugal or Albania) also the immigrants are going back to their countries such as Romania and North Africa.
Good for you - seriously.
Thank you and I hope you are doing well too.
kek I like your typing style.
Teachers’ salaries stagnate while spending per pupil keep increasing because governments and districts are bloated with ever more non-teaching administrators and staff, and spend $100 million or more on new high schools, and deliberately underfunded pensions and health benefits for retirees which is biting their ass now as some districts now face spending 25% of their budget on retirees.
In Finland, teachers have master degrees and are paid well. Schools are small. Principals also teach. Their students rank amongst the best in the world. (Here, principals have vice principals.)
In Japan, students help in teachers and the principal clean classrooms, hallways, bathrooms. There and in Taiwan, everyone eats at their desks at lunchtime and they all eat the same foods. Everyone wears uniforms to help avoid class distinctions.
In the late 1800s many a small schoolhouse contained all grades taught by one teacher. They used phonics. Most sixth graders today would have difficulty with the math problems and reading and writing assignments given to sixth graders then. You can find examples of school books from that time on-line.
Not to say that we should adopt the entire Finnish model or Japanese or Amish model, but there are very real lessons to be learned.
But undergirding it all is an abdication of parental responsibility. Many parents, especially middle class parents and many Asian parents regardless of income, still take these responsibilities seriously, but it is essentially now socially acceptable (because there is no stigma, no consequences or penalties).
More and more kids are showing up undisciplined and unruly and unlearned. For some of them, they are the second or third or fourth generation of such outcomes. In some neighborhoods, kids might show up to kindergarten knowing a few words by sight, and letters and sone phonics mastered, while in other neighborhoods they show up with no idea.
Back when I lived in California, we hung out with another couple. She was a second grade teacher. All of her children were minorities. They were already unruly, unlearned, parents were not engaged, kids even talked back at the teacher, called names, etc. Only one seemed to actually be doing well and she was the only Asian child in class.

America is doing just fine....
Oh, thank you for calling my comment sensational. Maybe run it through ChatGPT, strain the emotion out of it?
Supposedly children's outlook on life is cherry-picked info, but you could just ask kids and listen to their answers. Though I'm sure you can find some to repeat the same basic social media line from the same evening news.
You're not going to see the kids getting better with time. That's just not going to happen as long as everything else keeps getting worse. Suicide season ended early when kids were out-of-school, reopening resulted a 52% increase in bullying queries, a 42% increase in cyber-bullying queries and a 93% increase in queries about school bullying. About 15% increase in suicides.
Social media's effect is supposedly just like the effect of in-person school, the bullying. So if they were all using social media to interact, and it caused bullying and misbehavior, why did they search Google for bullying info half as much as in person?
The kids have been back for a long while, depending on district. How long will it take to not see things get better?
Well, at least you've learned something from children
I'm sorry, I'd love to read whatever it is you wrote.
But, it seems like you vomited on your keyboard instead of writing a coherent response.
The second trip was absolutely more intense and transformational. Both trips shared some of the same qualities, but if the first one was immersing myself up to my waist in the waters the second was fully diving.
It is really difficult to describe what psychedelic experiences are like in words. I can try to approximately describe the main highlights, but it is a little bit like trying to paint an incredibly beautiful sunset over the grand canyon with stick figure drawing skills. You can get the main idea, but the account does not even begin to cover the full richness of the real thing.
The first trip was an overwhelmingly pleasant experience. I experienced for the first time some of the cool superficial effects of psilocybin: audio effect like music slowing down or getting "wrapped", visual effects like seeing the warmth of light and even sometimes light breaking down in separate colors in a prism, objects moving to the point my duvet cover was moving like it was breathing and "alive".
The real mind blowing effects happened when I closed my eyes. I would see incredible visuals as clearly as if they were in front of me. It is almost like playing a beautiful and brightful game in VR but that looks incredibly realistic and that responds to your every thought and emotion. It also feels like psilocybin works like a magnifying glass for my mind where every thought is fully visualized and felt at a deep level. I wrote in my notes that psilocybin is a philosopher sandbox, where you can "see", "feel", and almost manipulate in 3D what an abstract concept like essence in essentialism. I also felt a presence surrounding me the entire time, like a playful and infinitely loving and patient entity. Not necessarily like a supernatural being, but maybe like a universal force connecting me to the rest of the world. It felt like a gentle and loving teacher teaching me how to be a happier and more compassionate human being. Just remembering some of the aspects of that experience as I am typing this paragraph is bringing so many positive emotions and even tears of joy.
The second trip had a lot of the same aspects than the first but went way deeper. Try to picture a psilocybin trip as a scuba diving session in the ocean. The first trip was like scuba diving maybe 20 meters below the surface and witnessing this wonderful underwater realm with incredible colors, shapes, and emotions that give you a unique and unforgettable experience. But there is a current that gently draws you beyond a cliff where you will dive to the bottom of the ocean. I felt that "current" on the first trip but I was not ready to go there. On the second trip, I was actively trying to dive deep. I spent hours reading beforehand about ego dissolution and what to expect. I can say I was as intellectually prepared as I could be, but completely emotionally unprepared to what it felt like.
To my surprise, I got scared because it felt overwhelming and the feeling of completely surrendering is an uncomfortable one. In spite of all I knew, I resisted and started to get cold feet and even feel regret. Because psilocybin amplifies everything you think and feel, it felt terrifying and it was one of the most challenging experiences I felt. I guess in some way it started as a bad trip. But eventually, I remembered that the more I would fight it and the worse it would feel. I eventually let go and it started to get so much better. I was rewarded with one of the most profound and mind opening experience of my life.
I don't think there is going to be a lot of value about detailing every aspect of the experience as it is highly unique to each individual. But I have felt like actually dying. I even had what felt like an hallucination of being old and dying of old age as my loved one held my hands. I felt the peace of leaving the chaos of life and a tired body. My breathing slowed so down and so effortlessly that at some point I felt I could * actually * die if I chose to (that's not possible biologically but it felt real in the moment), and I realized I was not ready to die yet if only for my family. But when my day comes I will welcome it with peace.
I also felt the ability to visualize and peel every layer of my personality. That was incredibly powerful and cathartic to better understand myself and heal past traumas. Eventually, I peeled so much that I reached what felt like an indivisible core, almost like a soul. It was so beautiful and filled with love, that it felt like finding my true self for the first time in decades. It was so instrumental in understanding and loving myself, but also showing me a glimpse of who I really want to be in my daily life. This is just a rough summary of the highlights. There is so much more than that, but it would take who knows how many pages to cover everything.
So in conclusion, it was one of the if not the most profound, incredible, terrifying, loving, mind opening experience of my life. It opened completely new avenues I did not even know existed. It felt like being reborn. It has been two weeks already and I have already changed a lot of habits and patterns in my life. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. I would however caution people that it is an incredibly intense experience. So please inform yourself beforehand to understand it, prepare to maximize beneficial outcomes (set and setting, meditate beforehand), and be aware of the challenges you might encounter.

“You dipped the chip, you took a bite, and you dipped again. Then you took another bite and dipped yet again… what is wrong with you?!”
One thing I don't hear often talked about with regards to pollutants is the [testosterone crisis](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6456267/).
There's numerous studies on this and you can look it up. And yes, it is a problem. Unhealthy levels of sex hormones (in men AND women) correlate with increased depression, obesity, suicide rates, and many more negatives. Testosterone is an important hormone in women as estrogen is also an important hormone in men, but ultimately, the *ratio* of those sex hormones is especially important. With excess pollutants, women's estrogen:testosterone ratio gets messed up as well. Of course, due in part to men having more testosterone, they're affected the most by this. But women are too.
It has been shown that pollutants like the ones described in this study effectively reduce testosterone in men AND sperm quality, making it harder for couples to conceive, and diminishing overall quality of life for men (which is surprisingly very often super related to testosterone levels).
This may be among one of many explanations for several other crises, like the advent of a large amount of sexless men, or rising suicide rates.
I'm not saying that any of these problems are one-dimensional, but I am saying that pollutants are affecting all of our hormones, our brains, and our wellbeings. Testosterone-based PEDs for example have described effects of making you feel "superhuman" and "like a god". Obviously these are the effects of *too* much testosterone, but based on what we observe in these cases, it very clearly has an effect on mood. It is not uncommon for depression symptoms to actually be symptoms of low testosterone nowadays, and testosterone levels have declined significantly in men since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
As a man, and I'm sure other men will agree--I want this to be talked about more, and studied a lot more. I am a cis man, but regardless of your sexual orientation, having healthy testosterone levels is absolutely imperative for your mental health and pollutants are fucking ours up. Even if you have a woman's typical hormone profile, women *need* a small amount of testosterone too, just as men need a *small* amount of testosterone to remain at stable, healthy ratios of sex hormones for an adult.
It has come to a point for me where I've considered taking hormone replacement therapy to reintroduce healthy testosterone levels.
No, it doesn't. It's sensational claims ignoring information and cherry picking info. Teen suicide rates did rise after reopening. They had also plummeted during covid closures. It makes sense to assume they would return to a similar rate when things went back to how they were. There have been trends for years. There's hasn't been a nearly 2 year closure where children were separated from all their peers. We all knew that weird homeschool kid growing up, now they're all the weird homeschooled kid. New research keeps coming out showing the detrimental affects of social media on kids and teens. Social media was also the main form of socialisation we all had during the closures.
I do agree that kids are aware of the situation they've been put in and they're not happy about it. But the real driver is losing 2 years of key social development and spending that time on what we are increasingly finding to be a toxic activity.
Also, just to make sure people don't misunderstand, I 100% supported the covid closures. Behind kids can catch up, misbehaving kids can be taught to behave, dead kids stay dead.
Hey OP, I was wondering if this document ended up changing your mom’s mind at all, it’s very well put together.
Well I guess the more who read it, the more that can come to acceptance, right? At least that was a large step for me towards acceptance (reading Overshoot). But haha I see your point and mostly agree :)
I didn’t know that you two were close friends. That’s good to know. And as much as I like his works and think he helps spread awareness of the matter in a mostly great way, I too find some flaws in his videos and I totally understand what you mean about him needing to lay off the Copium pipe lol.
Thanks for the recommendation, just listened to the first couple minutes and will finish later tonight. I liked your analogy of the bowl being thrown in the air. Not really sure what I’m trying to say but I appreciate the effort it must have taken to work on this latest three part series of yours. Got any favorite fiction books that have parallels to collapse? Or any other book recs?
Ooo, we're getting the thousand year flood this year
Location: Hawaii USA
Huge uptick in homeless people now around areas they never were at before, like outside grocery stores, and at populated parks that locals and tourists use often. Housing is getting worse, people think they can charge more for a rental just because it's Hawaii. So many people are defaulting here, many are struggling to keep housing as jobs are scarce. It's no joke when I say everyone is hiring here but nobody is hiring!! 30+ applications out and not a single reply or call back in my state of Hawaii. It's also incredibly difficult to buy food here because of the costs to eat. $1000 for 2 people a month barely covers the basics here. In Europe food is inflated yes but it's still cheap compared to the USA where FOOD here is a LUXURY. It's sad when the rest of the world has food so cheap but in the USA it is considered a luxury now. I digress, it's bad all over but this is what I see here.
More of what is going on like mentioned above is that HAWAII is a very special market when it comes to housing and speculation. Our government which is 100% Liberal Democratic has been in power for decades because we have huge amounts of sheep who listen and believe they will do the things they promise but never do. Most of our island who are local who been here and have some Hawaiian left wanted a Republican, we voted for that but the majority vote said Democrat once again. This leads to this housing issue we see here because they don't ban sales of second homes. Small islands, lots of people and over 50% of homes on the islands are second homes for vacation or airbnb, this lead to this crisis. Now the other interesting factor is mega wealthy firms like Blackrock bought up huge inventory here with cash, and they are just sitting empty a lot of them.
People are becoming more violent here also, Waikiki is seen the largest influx of violence we ever seen, and always the criminal is let go. Most of the crime here is of people who do not live here but come over from other states from the west coast, you can not believe the crime increases here since after the pandemic and stimulus checks got sent out. So there you got it, crime rates on rise here, more folks starving, homeless, and housing crisis.
One last thing, MEDICAL is hard to find here! Shortage of doctors and many sick people who go untreated because of this. We have a Liberal system here where if you need a doctor most wont take new patients because they are over capacity because of how they created the rules here. Basically people with a medical insurance like a PPO who can go to any doctor without a referral on the mainland, can't do this here. You have to be seen by a primary care then they need to send the referral to the specialist. This creates a system that is bogged down, not only this but everything you do you have to jump through hoops here. Plus they pay nurse practitioners 80% of a real doctor gets, this is what leaves so many doctors not wanting to work here. Try getting a doctor, you will be hard pressed, it's faster to go to urgent care which most do now.

This is about collapse, we have been having discussions, talks, and conferences all over the world in regard to solving climate change. We know what should be done, the what and how but are we willing to do it wholeheartedly?

This video is about the crisis of addiction that afflicts so many people. The addictions go far beyond substance abuse, and include compulsive media and internet consumption, like: pornography, social media, streaming services, video games, gambling, etc.
Modernity came about as a solution to a pre-modern problem: scarcity. Now, we have the opposite problem: abundance. The current reality of abundance and addiction exists within "limbic capitalism," a form of capitalism that is scientifically designed to keep you engaged and consuming compulsively. The video doesn't necessarily touch on it, but economic growth itself has become a compulsion, an addiction. This has ecological consequences, but also social and public health consequences. If allowed to continue, this addiction based, limbic capitalism is completely unsustainable, and that would be true even if our compulsive consumption didn't result in ecological overshoot, which it does. Our addiction based capitalist system is creating the conditions for collapse already. The longer this goes on, the less we will be able to function, not only as individuals, but as a society, making collapse inevitable.

How New Addictions Are Destroying Us
When I was in 6th grade, I vividly remember my English teacher throwing a students desk across the room when the student kept writing on it during a class. She told him to go to the principals office. He was suspended for 5 days for his behavior (writing on the desk). By the way, this was 1999-2000, not the 1950s. And public school in Upstate NY! That teacher was actually incredible - for some reason, that outburst made me like her even more. Weeks later, the kid apologized. He actually went on to graduate with high honors in my HS, and I believe he now runs his own business, etc. Funny though how I never forgot that moment.
Today, that teacher would probably be in prison. LOL. But in all seriousness, using negative reinforcement/fear/discipline/dominance is not allowed in schools. And before your mental voice tells you that that is a good thing, keep in mind that, there's a very good reason why kids are absolutely out of control today. And it's not microplastics. Moreover, the biggest loser in all of this is actually the kids. No wonder why they can't handle the real world. They're brought up in a false environment. In addition, as marriage and family continues to be eroded in a society that puts the individual beyond any other virtue, many children are coming from fractured and/or dysfunctional families, many with one parent. This is the single biggest predictor for antisocial and criminal behavior there is. But, again, you can't say stuff like that. It's not allowed.

Edit: bring on the downvotes. But nothing about this should be surprising,
South Texas. Lots of inflation. Everyone seems to be less happy. More homelessness and an increase in crime
If you want a good laugh, go check out OOP’s comment history. He loves to lick Elon’s bootehhh and lick the boots of his corporate overlords. u/ParsifalTheSearcher like someone else said, it’s really like a kid finding out that Santa clause isn’t real it’s kinda sad but I don’t feel bad he does not listen to people when they have something to say, he/she/they just want to believe that everything will be okay despite the *mountain of evidence that we are destroying our planet to extend the age of exuberance *
In this day and age we really need to separate kids early according to aptitude. Getting kids out of public school and into trades programs/apprenticeships will help the smarter kids focus. This isn’t a dig at the dumb kids either. I think school can be prison for lower IQ kids. They don’t want to be there and shouldn’t be herded toward college. They want to earn money and would probably flourish in an apprenticeship that allows them to learn and earn money.
There you go. Learn and Earn should be a high school path for kids that shouldn’t go to college.
Even the boomers know whats coming. They sold out the working class for comfort and are fully aware of the mass culling that is coming as a result.

The problem isn't within guns' accessibility but in the fact that people don't know how to handle them safely.I'm neither pro-guns nor against it. I simply believe that having a gun is a personal choice. Besides, no law can stop someone from buying a weapon. I highly doubt that criminals get their firearms legally otherwise, the black market wouldn't thrive, and police wouldn't have much of an issue solving shooting cases.

I see the problem in people's approach toward firearms. Most persons I know fall into two categories when it comes to guns. The first ones are those against gun liberalization, advocating for banning guns and demanding control over sales and registration. They haven't ever held a gun and are afraid to deal with any shooting weapon, preferring to live in a bubble. The second ones are idiots that learned how to handle their pistols from watching movies and don't have any second thoughts about pulling the weapon for no reason, just to show off before friends.

Tbh, I don't know which of these two types is more annoying. I don't understand how someone could live in a country where owning a gun is a constitutional right and not learn how to handle one for basic protection. Also, I don't get how someone could own a gun but not follow essential safety rules treating it as a clothing accessory or leaving it unsupervised.

Education is basically lost. Our schools are now zoos. This will be mostly American focused, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this problem is international.
Go to r/teachers and just start reading. You may not know this, but schools have changed a lot since you might have last been there. I’m in my 30s and recently became a substitute for some extra cash, and the shock was real. Students are worse than they’re ever been. They face no consequences for anything anymore. Some schools have stopped failing students for not turning in work and won’t let teachers give them below a 50% for any assignment, even if the student refuses to do it. Teachers are being assaulted in classrooms and administrators won’t do anything about it. Parents are no longer making their kids behave at school so no consequences you can threaten manage to land.
I’m not saying all schools are as bad as that subreddit, but student behavior is definitely worse. I don’t remember the substitute ever having to call the office to remove misbehaving students when I went through the system. We acted a little worse for the sub, but nothing crazy. These days I’m calling someone down to drag a student to the office every other period. I have also acted as a para, so I’ve experienced what it’s like for regular teachers in the classroom day to day. Yeah, they’re constantly having to throw out kids too. When I was in school I can count on one hand how many times a student was removed from the class for all of K-12, but it’s basically every day now.
Middle schoolers intentionally break their school and classroom supplies. Some of them can barely read above a 1st grade level. Their handwriting looks like it comes from a 5yo.
As I said, I’m sure it isn’t this bad everywhere but it’s hitting a critical point. We aren’t educating kids anymore and letting them pass without doing any work.
because the cunt's still got a mouth
Honestly minus any type of defenses it seems like one could set up a armored killdozer, drive over to exposed ventillation intake/exhuast, dump a portapotty worth of feces then repeat. Also setting a fire around the bunker itself would fuck up a lot of external electronic, sensors, cameras, etc via heat and smoke.
Imagine being this regarded.
Fake ass account. Do you just make fake accounts to post antivaxxer bullshit?
Only your opinions aren't based in scientific fact. Since you obviously didn't read the link, masks work because much of the virus's are locked up in water droplets on our breath, which do get blocked by even cheap masks. They don't stop as much as N95s, but it's definitely worth wearing them.
Your opinion that a vaccine is a "death jab" that billions of people on the planet have had and not died from shows how ignorant you are.
Your brain is slowly trickling out
Some of the comments are honestly atrocious, the mods of the local pages have to constantly reprimand people for racist posts and comments so the page doesn’t get removed for violating the community guidelines. A lot of people calling for bashing or killing of indiginous people, saying they don’t deserve human rights, bring back the days of “bush bashing” a lot of talk about how they aren’t the same as “regular humans” etc. shocking stuff to be honest. The page has been better since they got new mods but the people of cairns are getting more racist by the day. We lock up the most kids out of any state here in QLD and lock kids up as young as 10. Alot of calling for the age to be reduced so they can send them even younger. People here seem to be completely blind to the fact that poverty and crime go hand in hand and just want to punish.
I am really not talking about people saying things like “an indiginous person did xyz..” or “the perpetrator was of indiginous/TSI decent” I’m talking comments on posts where there is a black perpetrator like “we should have finished the job when we got here and we wouldn’t have these problems now!” And similar comments. There was a child that was involved in a car theft that crashed the car and died in the accident and the comments where terrible, boy was only 9 yrs old and just a passenger and people saying “haha good on him! saves me tax money paying him welfare when he grew up!” It’s just disgusting. Any time you say anything about it in local spheres people like you chime in and say “we just aren’t allowed to say what they looked like when they do a crime, THATS TOO RACIST” like that is what we are upset about…
And, I answered that. The slim possibility that we're not *entirely* responsible for what is happening, that it is uncertain whether it was augmented by purely natural cycles, doesn't reassure me.
We're in deep shit, and if we don't correct the portion we know, know beyond any uncertainty, is definitely our fault, then we fundamentally did this. Maybe we were helped, but we did this. I am aware, that the flights I've taken, the red meat I've eaten, the miles I've driven in a car that was dedicated solely to my own transport... I don't think anything absolves me of that. I don't emotionally want to be responsible for any of this, but logically? I don't have a choice anymore, what's done is done, and the one who did it, did it.
I haven't come to terms with that, and I'm not asking you to come to terms with whatever portion might be yours. I don't know how. But deflecting responsibility, to something the planet is doing without our involvement? You have to lie to yourself for that, because the honest answer is humans did this, and as a human you don't entirely escape it.
This is the worst argument and it needs to stop.

As soon as the OP mentioned the 'oil in Canada', I realised they are uninformed. I don't want to be mean to them because they're still quite young and learning you have no future is quite traumatic, hence why so many their age are suffering from serious mental health problems; but they seem also to be willfully ignorant. There is a turf war brewing between us and the copium addicts.
In the vast majority of the US, a car is an absolute necessity to be able to work and secure basic services. Without a car, you have no transportation to your job, no way to get to the grocery store, you're unable to get your kid to school or go to the doctor.
The trillions given out were definitely a part of the inflation. You can't just print money with nothing to back it and expect it to keep it's value. Only a small % of those trillions were stimulus. The rest went to a bunch of idiotic things. Not the only cause but most definitely part of it. Saying it's not is just sticking your head in the sand and ignoring facts. But this is reddit where facts are frowned upon. Now I'll wait for the mods to ban me because this is somehow anti vax like they said discussing diet was.
According to Reddit printing trillions of dollars with nothing to back it has no negative effects.

N95 masks would work, but not the cheap ones used by the general public.

SS: “Methane is a double edged sword:” although it doesn’t persist in the atmosphere for as long as CO2, it’s potent trapping of heat is a couple dozen times more powerful than CO2. It also plays an important role in feedback loops in the earth climate system. To a zeroth order, the earth is a compost pile, increase the temperature and the rate of methane production increases, hence feedback.
Heating due to methane emissions is currently accounting for 25% of global warming. Unfortunately, this potent green house gas’s emissions have been increasing. This alone could easily destroy the París Climate Accord goals. Current and planned projects could double the 1.5C carbon limits.
Alarmingly, the article reports more than 1000 super-emitter sites. Along with 55 so called “methane bombs,” locations where a leak could amount to 30 years of current US emissions.
Increased monitoring and legislative action is underway. Although at the moment, these massive emissions are largely undeterred. In fact, flaring or releasing gases is often cheaper and easier than investing in newer equipment, or better practices. Will those detonating devastating “methane bombs” be held accountable?

You have no clue how big China is. And how many different people live there. Its so much more complex than just giving water and soap. Jesus do you even read what you're typing?
China is so big and poor outside the cities they're still building roads to every community and province. They're still building the electricity and Internet grids everywhere.
So you think Chinese people don't know how to wash themselves? That soap is such a foreign concept for them?
Now you're being racist AND stupid
Yes, definitely. We are in the very beginning of that. Most of it is because, simply put, genetics are really complex. A lot of genes may cause some sort of phenotype, but they may not have full penetrance; in other words, just because you have the genes for something, doesn't necessarily always mean you have that something. That is where it gets very complex. Because it often means there is something else influencing it - or perhaps, random chance alone. If the layman wants to learn more they can Google 'incomplete penetrance' and read up on how this becomes so mind-boggling.
>Covid 19 attack mostly the lungs we’ve seen it start in animals soo therefore it’ll happen to us humans too it doesn’t take rocket science to understand how these things work
Just because some illness started in animals doesn't mean it will eventually make its way to humans. Even diseases that affect other mammals aren't guaranteed to eventually infect humans, that's not how biology works. You're just making shit up as you go lmao.
What are you talking about she just goes to meeting with other scientists and they discuss what’s going on the in the world and someone mentioned the disease in wuhan that’s it. Read the article smart guy
If you're willing to handwave away the amount of sabotage that capitalist imperialism imposed on nascent socialist projects then any act against you is justified.
Sure, liberals (democrats) are on the left side of the US political spectrum at least in terms of social issues. Even the most far left politicians and organizations and lobbyists etc (anyone with power) in the US are liberals. At the farthest you get soc dem liberals, but they are still liberals. This is just about the US political spectrum, which that's fine if that's what you are talking about. But historically and today internationally, "the left" refers to anticapitalist political tendencies, namely anarchism, communism and socialism. And there is no left in the US.
You don't have to be in agreement with leftwing politics to understand why this distinction matters. American media and political classes have deliberately confused all this. In the US, there are two classically liberal capitalist parties. One is farther to the right than the other, but they are both classically liberal capitalist parties which means in the wider historical/international spectrum, they are right wing. They've deliberately created a culture war of lib v con to make it harder to understand the political spectrum, now you have people actually saying stuff like Biden is a communist or whatever. Conservative doesn't mean anything at all other than traditional and resistant to change. You could be a conservative anything. Liberalism actually has a definition, and both Republicans and Democrats are classically liberal capitalist parties. Words actually matter because it's hard to think about and discuss ideas without shared language, and for everyone else in the world as well as in all political theory etc, "the left" and "leftwing" means not capitalist. That's the dividing line.
People are fucking brain dead AND brainwashed. Even seeing your downvotes can get depressing so I just don’t look if I can help it
Maybe we were always systematically being killed, but somehow, this feels different. It seems like we’ve already been defeated and are waiting for death by their hand. Sure, like any other day, but again, this feels different. Before I wasn’t sad reading all this, but today it feels heavy and I am very saddened by this. So many people will die needlessly because the COVID jab weakened their bodies - people who we love and need in our lives will just be gone. I don’t think this comment is really adding to the convo here in terms of conspiracy outrage, but it’s just me - a human being - watching things burn and I can’t stop it or help anymore because they’ve beaten us down. I know I’m not the only one feeling this and I cannot mask it anymore. I’m just letting the tears flow today.
Your ridiculous. I agree both parties are self serving greedy sacks of trash but your just ridiculous
Yeah, and half of people would be resistant to masking and quarantining because of muh freedoms.
The World Health Organisation hasn’t yet declared an ‘all-clear’ on COVID-19 (as they did for the first SARS outbreak), so until they do, I will mask, quarantine, distance, and go outside only when necessary all I want. I’m doing a one-man zero-COVID policy.
It's been a fun chat! Thanks to the mods for leaving this up as long as they did. Mahalo!
Got to love how these neck beard mods lock up an article that literally states the CDC had their information reviewed by the Chicago suntimes and said that that was miss information not necessarily saying that the Chicago suntimes was miss information. Funny how these mods work. I bet they are even going to get rid of the CDC link and state that as misinformation because it doesn’t go to their religious beliefs it’s OK to disagree but when you shut down sources even the sources that they cite it goes to show you who the real book burners are. If people would just read a history book from time to time, they would see that everything we did was gonna fill it was utterly useless. The only thing I did was give people a sense of control when her reality it was just a placebo that rector economy divided the nation and make people hate each other. This is so sad. How is the city different from getting mood rocks and astrology, mixed with Saint johns, wort, and other stuff that people gravitate towards when they’re desperate. Now we are headed into an economic depression caused by peoples reactions to the virus virus itself. They just shut down the country and causes problems. It was the peoples reactions that causes problems, don’t get me wrong. Viruses was bad but we have to have some giant balls to think that we can control it or we can even take care of each other.
It's been a fun chat! Thanks to the mods for leaving this up as long as they did. Mahalo!

Ss : The boys from Sin City Outdoors are at it again. According to them, it is now illegal to film Lake Mead for “commercial” purposes (without a permit). Allegedly, the permits take 10 days to process and cost around 200 dollars. YouTube is considered commercial purposes and they are treading softly on filming out there til they get this figured out. Can anyone out there confirm this?
Edit: this video is 2 months old
Edit#2: This is collapse related because of the number of commercial and agricultural entities who rely on lake mead/Colorado river for water. 25 million people (or more)

Please reply to OP's comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/11g2dgr/so_now_its_illegal_to_film_lake_mead_without_a/jam97x7/
So now it’s illegal to film Lake Mead without a permit???

Elon Musk gave his Tesla “Master Plan Part 3” last night. Not only did Tesla stock collapse, but Musk included some hilarious "collapse gems" in his talks.Near the beginning of the presentation, Musk said: “There is a clear path to a sustainable-energy Earth. It doesn’t require destroying natural habitats. It doesn’t require us to be austere and stop using electricity and be in the cold or anything.” He added, “In fact, you could support a civilization much bigger than Earth, much more than the 8 billion humans could actually be supported sustainably on Earth.”
A lot of stupid to unpack there, but I won't waste time refuting it. It's easy to simply look back at Musk's "Master Plan Part 2" and see what actually got done.
* “Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage”
* “Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments”
* “Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning”
* “Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it”.
None of these came true. The savior of humanity is a fraud. Poetic. Classic humans. Collapse is inevitable.

It's a community for people with $30,000 and some skills to live in for a year, dude. They're not all mansion owners.
Read the article next time. There weren't that many words.

Nothing to see here. Everyone knows the CCP have this handled😂😂
I'll never forget being at work and letting one rip. Can confirm
I always assumed most people would die during a nuclear war so they’re just paying to survive a little longer, like they ain’t ever gonna leave that bunker pretty much, I’m sure they have high class painless suicide methods for that point
Fuck u China
China, can you fucking not come up with new possible world pandemics for 5 minutes?!?
I don't see China going for Taiwan but I bet they will send supplies to Russia just to cause chaos. They already send most supplies to America so they have a lot of power over us. The East invented the Art of War. But Russia doing terrorist attacks on Ukraine maybe dropping a nuke or lower level bomb like that and China going for Tiawan could put us in a bad position. So who knows. I mean China already surrounds Taiwan
Thank you. I really loved her more than anything, and her loss has been difficult to bear. Not sure I have the capacity to love again. Thanks for your kind words - they are much appreciated.
> Yeah people shouldn't be freaking out over this article,
People are freaking about the title. Most aren't even reading the article nor know the context for this or even care to learn about how this actually transmits.
Lol they'd be saying "why are you scared to go outside?" then go outside and have their brains exploded.
You underestimate the power of stupidity
Well, okay, but that's not what you said. You said "the left." We can either all agree that we understand what left and right mean in politics or not. And American liberals are not on the left. If you want to talk about them as relatively left or whatever compared to the other party, sure. But that is not what "the left" means unless you add a qualifier. It is Fox News/American media propaganda to refer to liberals as "the left." There is no active left.
No idea what you're on about regarding pathetic. This is an argument over definitions. And again, by saying ultra liberals you conflate the left with liberals. You calling something pathetic or whatever does not invalidate the fact that you have a blindspot in political philosophy and are using the intentionally dishonest language of the American media. Like, what is an "ultra liberal" to you, lol.
Saying there is a left or right side of the "isle" is meaningless. There's a left and a right side of hardcore fascists and then soft fascists who think maybe we shouldn't murder trans people. If I come on here referring to the latter as the left, would you defend me?
Location: USA South and other particular states.

Each of these examples shows the conservative movements attack on our society. We are living in dangerous times with attack on on freedoms (and the ability to vote) being slowly stripped away.
If this continues our society with look drastically different for many, if not most, people. It's frightening.
The ignorance and fear from the minority is ruling the majority. Be prepared.

Ummm, we're fucked. No one cares is my point.
> All signs our medical system is teetering.
If you ever chat with a hospital physician, you might be (un)surprised to learn just how close local health systems have come to collapse over the last eighteen months. I know of a region where multiple times all the local hospitals have been beyond capacity in terms of staffing, beds and ER space, to the point where people would be turned away and told to drive 90 mins to our nearest city hospitals. It’s happened a few times in the last eighteen months, and it’s a miracle that it didn’t spill over into total chaos.
Location: Sonoma County, California
Our local economy has seen a wave of business closures in Q42022 and Q12023. We have a service economy that is driven by wealthy locals and tourists from the Bay Area. Restaurants and stores everywhere here are closing, often times effective immediately with little to no warning given to staff and customers. The amount of vacant store fronts are starting to pile up. My guess is that inflation, interest rates and rent increases are sucking money from the local middle class, and Silicon Valley job cuts are hurting regional tourists.
Keep your nightmare to yourself. Just because you’re nasty and would eat bugs, doesn’t mean I would.
Most people on Reddit probably don't have a six-figure get worth, no. Check the actual data sometime.
I'm sure I'm in that category since I'm reasonably well off. I prefer to be alive in 40 years, so yes I absolutely support doing all of that and more.
But if you're going to be a fucking idiot who says "well why don't you live in a shack with no heat or electricity?" you're just betraying total ignorance about how any of those problems work.
You know it borther
Our decadent western indoor plumbing and electricity will be the downfall of mankind, not a handful of shithole countries with populations that balloon 5-6 times anything they can remotely handle.
Everyone needs to pump the brakes on more children. They should have a long fucking time ago.
I love all the "enjoy yourself" comments, as though one isn't capable of enjoying oneself without annual cruises and flights to places you have no connection to. Just to remove themselves from the banal torture of their own dying communities for a fleeting moment.
Don't let the shills and nihilo-hedonist post-capitalist end products get you down OP, you are correct to do the right, rational thing even if it is a Sisyphian struggle. The only chance we have is if enough people do the right thing.
Let's skip the concept of evil.
People have basic requirements to survive. In a perfect world where we all lived by a stream that provides clean water and food and shelter and a comfortable climate that's not a big deal. Eventually people have more people and outstrip the capacity to fairly distribute those resources and yadda yadda everyone is specialized and working at their version of the pin factory because no one wants to pay $50 for a handcrafted pin so they can keep their garment together while sewing it. Systems are built, resource wars occur, and that's life outside the natural feedback loops. That's the world we currently inhabit. To overcome it one must simply defeat the overwhelming capacity for violence built up by those systems to protect their interests or convince enough people to stop maintaining it and accept the retribution of living in forced labor concentration camps until the loop sputters out. While that sounds like evil for those inside the system depending on it for survival it's just a mode of existence that strengthens that particular feedback loop. "Bro, I'm just struggling to pay rent so I don't die of exposure. How are the forever wars my fault?"
Can we have something better? Yeah, I would like to think so but that requires finding a path towards unlimited resources that make an economy unnecessary and that's a pretty big challenge and it would also require nice people forcing selfish people to fuck off so they don't roll up with guns and make people pay them for access to a common resource because that's easier than putting in some effort of their own.
I found the podcast on resilience.com or .org. There wasn't a synopsis but the comments underneath are highly critical of the podcast.
I would also say that even if renewables can replace fossil fuels then it is about saving our luxury lifestyle, not about saving nature. That's not environmentalism.
Even if net zero is possible, CO2 is just one way in which we kill the living planet. Renewables are a continuation of industrial civilisation and capitalism. We will run into other limitations.
Anyway. Planet Of The Humans was factual. A real inconvenient truth.
reflecting the sun lmao stfu
Okay buddy, judging by that reply I don't think you're worth talking to. Bye.
And this comment and the upvotes show why we're fucking doomed.
And we/you fucking deserve it.
Oh yeah the natural disasters .. all the toxic train crashes spewing dioxins and vinyl chloride into the air , basically agent orange. These aren’t contributing factors , our carbon that is greening the earth at a rapid rate causing excess oxygen to be produced by all of the excess plants is the driving factor for the increase In excess mortality 20% per country and the decimation of the birth rate in every country.
All of which happened beginning 2 years ago during the roll out of an experimental gene therapy hmm? Yeah it’s my stove and car lol! You people are truly lost. Global warming is a 50 year hoax by the nwo to garner control over the entire earth. Your good intentions allow them to play you right into it. :( it’s really sad to watch the best intention people causing the demise of the planet by helping the worst intentioned people retain powers.
Global warming is a hoax and the average temperature of the earth has not exceeded our 1920’s record. Carbon has a diminishing return and plants produce more oxygen the more carbon we inject into the atmosphere.
After the great reset many of you will be dead and the remainder will be herded into 15 minute smart cities while the elite roam the country side and raise their children naturally. None of you are ever giving birth if you got vaccinated. Ban me I don’t give a fuck
You’re grasping at straws dude.
It's no wonder the part of the internet that has heard of r/collapse thinks it's a joke. This is a DK, false narrative, belief bias toilet circle jerk.
There is so much contrary agreement here based only on the fact there is tenuous cross belief.
Dumpster fire.
Don't worry guys, Bill Gates has been working to solve this problem for us. Keep funding those bio-labs billy!
Lol the country has literally never had infrastructure and always requires aid cuz they can't do shit themselves it's not racism it's just a shitty country and did I say black virtue signaling faggot? A lot of Africa's white now idiot saying Africa isn't saying black.
If I wanted to be racist I would called it a country full of hard R's
So stfu and live in your safe space bubble
Then 83% of the population will die in their concrete prisons. Where do you think they get their food and fuel?
Hey, as long as you’re out there instead of hiding behind someone else and saying “yeah, go cities!” Agree to disagree, I guess.
Whatever you say, man.
Because all it takes to make a farm work is the land, right? I guess Cornell can close up their AgSci school because the knowledge of farming is latent in all human beings.
Lol you can try.
Ah yes, I'm old enough to remember when they claimed in 2005 that we would see "world record hurricanes every year" by 2020.
Cool story, Redditor since last month.
You're really desperate to miss the point.
We were given a beautiful diverse planet and look what we did to it.
What an utterly shameful time to be alive.
Hmm, time to buy beachfront property in ohio!!!
How many power stations have been attacked across the US? God your denialism is pungent. You want to perform your "it's ok everything is fine everything is _just fine_" that's fine but I'm going to point and laugh.
Idiot minimizing applied violence in transparent denial.
Resources exist to be consumed. And consumed they will be, if not by this generation then by some future. By what right does this forgotten future seek to deny us our birthright? None I say! Let us take what is ours, chew and eat our fill.

what do you call the MASSIVE protests against vietnam? the iraq war? you need to get your money back for you degree.
You need to stop being such a douchebag on Reddit, you're the least fun person to talk to.
This isn't combat, nobody is going to give you a gold star for being a shithead. Can we not just have a good faith back and forth conversation? I guess not. You're too busy dunking on me through stupid assumptions you've made about my thinking.
Enjoy being the rightest person on Reddit today. I'm done talking to you.

Here’s what city people don’t have:
•Available personal vehicles
•The ability to self-sustain
•Low population density
•Large supply of firearms or ammunition
•Practical survival skills
•The majority of the veteran population
I could go on but I think your arrogance makes it futile.
