Iâve sadly lived in Iowa all of my life and no one ever goes to the driftless region for a vacation/hike, and I grew up an hour away. All of the ânature peopleâ Iâve known always traveled out of state, never in state. *Maybe* some boomers enjoyed the small state parks, but thatâs not saying much.
Youâll more than likely find yourself looking outside of state for things to do, whether in nature or otherwise. Iowa simply doesnât have anything. The only reason Iâm still here is because Iâve entered a long term relationship, but we take frequent trips outside of Iowa. If I donât find anything meaningful in Iowa, Iâve already told him I plan on leaving.

I ask because School Choice wasnât on the radar until the Pandemic. The idea surfaced in late 2021 because a few schools refused to put students first. The Governor and the relatively small number of Legislative supporters were straight forward about the concerns of pandemic learning loss.
I also recall several hyper-liberal Des Moines families that could afford to put kids in private school did; but also had friends who didnât have $10k plus laying around per child. It looks like an equity issue to me.

Prion diseases are incredibly difficult to treat and just aren't generally prevented via cooking. Just doesn't seem like a good idea to eat. Personally I prefer to donate to the prisons. The prisoners get excited for this time of year because it's about the freshest meat they'll eat each year. I do hope they test them, but have very low expectations for the states prison system.

The original bill set aside 5000 vouchers for students with special needs and 5000 vouchers for students who are low income. If one group doesn't use all of their vouchers then the other group can access them. Therein lies the problem. Private schools don't offer programs for special ed students so parents won't have any reason to access those vouchers. That means "poor" families will get more. However, if you read the bill you will find that "poor" is defined as anyone making 400% of the Federal Poverty line. For a family of four that's just over $100,000. That would mean that 80% of Iowa families would be eligible to receive a voucher.
I'm pretty certain we will see a bill that lessens the requirements to be a teacher. We had a bill last year that lowered the requirements for substitute teachers and the union even supported it.
