Specification => Regression Tests => Full Node implementations that meet the test criteria. A "reference implementation" is not a protocol. Multiple implementations working together without a clear protocol are bound to fork, with no criteria for determining which fork is technically correct.

The brand that is presented when people go to learn more about bitcoin cash is completely different from the brand that is shown when people go to use it. It's very confusing to people trying to learn about it. Muddling the Bitcoin Cash brand is or core strategy of people trying to keep the unbanked poor.

Agreed. I'm just trying to oblige the question. Trees are green to maximize energy absorption. Tanks are green to blend in with them. Thems the breaks. It just happens, the shade doesn't matter. If you bread a plant to have orange leaves, it would eventually become green if released into the wild. BitcoinABC doesn't have a customer support team, nor an intercom rotation nor a stack of mis-spend tickets. I'm trying to help the arrive at the same decision arrived at by established companies with legal teams, ux designers and customer support reps—for the benifit of their own self interest.

Block height is the primary time keeping mechanism in bitcoin. The time that computers believe it is is somewhat secondary. You can look at: https://awesomebitcoin.cash/#libraries--sdks With a simple lookup table of block heights and timestamps you could build a wrapper for what you want. If you only want aggregate data, perhaps https://blockchair.com/api is more what you're looking for.

One common onboarding issue for apps like memo is the need for a faucet. (Users essentially can't use it unless they already have BCH.) So an app can integrate some faucet but the it becomes a cat and mouse game, of trying to secure and empty the faucet. Could an app integrate something where the user cloud mines, provides the solution to app faucet and is rewarded with a small amount of BCH instead of a the SLP token?

/r/btc/comments/hctt7q/brilliant_comment_on_why_ifp_is_fundamentally/fvjilly/

Focusing on system transparency and existing frameworks for collaboration is key. I think the constructive conclusions are great, but the extended discussion of a specific individual should maybe be steered more toward resolving what logic exists or technical obstacles remain for removing the IFP, rather than the history of how it got there. There was a great deal of ABC credibility lost with the IFP, that is the result. Focusing on public verbal expression of contrition or gratitude from lead developers may be likely cause unneeded tension. We don't need them to put on a suit or apologize. It might be prudent to be overtly constructive and distance yourself as far as possible from arguments or talking points used by those who are just here to split the teams.

/r/btc/comments/hctt7q/brilliant_comment_on_why_ifp_is_fundamentally/fviugj9/

I think the first two points are valuable here, I had viewed the fundraising primarily from flipstarter. Perhaps ABC communicating commitments on flipstarter or breaking a smaller portion of funding off for community contribution would help them in the future. Perhaps limiting it to one new deliverable would be appealing to the community and a more manageable goal for a flipstarter campaign. I didn't support the IFP and certainly don't want to be a retroactive proponent. But it also created an attitude in some members of the community that teams who initially supported the IFP should no longer have support, which is profoundly destructive. In the case of the kickback scheme described in the post, of a corrupt IPF-funded team, it is easy for an unscrupulous actor to capture some funding, create drama, and divert progress on core infrastructure. This would be more valuable to some entities than any kickback. I agree that my point was off the mark. Let me try again. If we don't come together as a community in an open and respectful manner to support teams building features that are then implemented across all nodes, the funding of full node projects can always be used as a tool for subversion rather than for building software for a more resilient network. We could have the same ultimate outcome as the kickback scheme described in this post with a crowdfunding model if we give into divisive sentiment and are heasitant rewarding the teams producing results. The speed of funding was used, at the time, as a talking point to lend validity to the claim that the community didn't support some projects as much as others. I probably got trolled by this, but it also resulted in my contributing financially to some of these projects.

Correct. I meant to say the readiness of funding, but it seemed too wordy. I think it's great the community can together to fund bchd, but I find it very odd that there are people basically independently funding full node projects with no track record.

Full node funds raised by flipstarter were inversely proportional to results delivered by thoes dev teams. bchd and abc got no funds because they didn't say "thank you", or proposed a funding model? bullshit. We need a new DAA, a built-in address index and avalance in all mining nodes. Not more subreddit drama.

Ha!, I wonder what I said. I'm not sure if it was Amaury or Chris who mentioned a few weeks ago about a set of regression tests used across all nodes to assure compatibility. I've started a list of utilities specific to full node devs: https://awesomebitcoin.cash/#full-node-development-tools And wanted to add it there. Another idea is to put a bounty on the creation of a reg_test that will cause a bad thing to happen in testnet, rather than later. Since we've had multiple instances of people creating transactions or blocks to cause a split, it might be better to incentivize early disclosure.

Most Bitpay sites say something like "Pay with Bitcoin". The user has to go thru all the steps and then select Bitcoin Cash after they've been told 5 times that they will need to pay with Bitcoin. This is the equvalent of a site saying they only accept AMEX, and then finding out when you go to enter your Visa in the AMEX field, "oh yeah, of course we accept all major credit cards".

I've been holding some form of bitcoin since it was trading at $2.50. It's fairly obvious when it's in a bubble or a steal; I aquired most of my current BCH holdings in the sub $200 range. The last time I bought gold bullion was in 2005 for $350. I don't regret selling at $650 and never touching it again. I imagine that everyone who buys metals or land will think they are a genius when their holdings are worth double in fiat. I hope they feel happy.

The low-tech solution for this is to offer longer subscriptions. A startup's investors REALLY like when revenue is paid-in-advance and it's dead simple for the customer as well. It's possible that a monthly-subscription-type company can move a substantial portion of their business over to annual subscriptions and reduce churn, fees and monthly billing issues.

Disclaimer: although this gif attempts to make light of the situation, what is happening to Black Americans, migrants/immigrants in detention centers and the elderly in nursing homes is deeply troubling to most Americans. A xenophobic political candidate should always be seen and taken seriously for what they are. We all must stand together and with each other--this is the thing they fear most.

New York is not Disneyland. Not to be a roll-gatekeeper, but chain & luxury stores that spend millions on store design (and push out locally owned businesses with double and triple rent offers) came into a market with no historical experience. They didn't listen to anyone that had experience and they didn't take the visual ques from the local businesses around them. A matching tweed suit at Chanel costs as much as a roll gate. One Rolex costs as much as a roll gate. I can't, with the plywood, feel at all sorry.

Many companies use an email service to marshal and dispatch emails. Look at the original text of the message, find the sending server near the top, and then look up the email companies abuse@ email. I've found forwarding the message with original data back to the reply-to and abuse@ email for their email service provider to be very effective. If they get blocked by their email service provider they are essentially shut down for several hours as a company while they scramble to switch.

The days of using a visa or mastercard on a small website (anything not in top 5 online retailers) are kind of coming to an end. I can't seem to get more than a few hundred dollars to go through. In the past year, I had eight instances where my debit card was declined, even though I had several thousand dollars beyond what I was trying to purchase. Payment services like paypal, apple pay, wepay, alipay are the only reliable way to do large fiat electronic transactions. Likewise there were multiple instances where my card was declined on a manufacture's direct website, but I was able to purchase the same item a few minutes later from amazon. Large fortune 500 companies with multi-national presence are getting blocked from accepting card payments in many cases, because the security model is so bad. The world of hard irreversable electronic payments and insecure centralized systems have been grinding against each other for years, and it doesn't look like the card companies are going to fix it. This is an anodical of account of the back leg of cc fraud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IT2oAzTcvU

More than anything else, merchants and customers want stability. Collectively working together on a multi-year roadmap with all relevant parties would be huge for getting out of the desert. It might be the best time to do it, because the people still in working on BCH now are a very core committed group.

1st thing, we are not going to fork, period. Another important thing to consider is that BU/BCHN and ABC may all share code when they choose to, since they are all C++. From what I understand, they do in fact do this for consensus rules. The main problem here is that only the golang node has implemented a solution to zero-conf, bchd+avalance... from my understanding. I'm not aware of someone implementing storm, but if it were abstracted, it could be shared across all three c++ nodes and bchd would have to catch up. Whoever writes a c++ solution first will likely have the implementation in 3/4 of the major node implementations. Even if bchd implements it, they will probably continue to split during hard-forks, simply because they aren't using the exact same code; which is fine. Dramatically changing the consensus layer absolutely has the potential to take down the network, the only thing that could make a seasoned developer comfortable with it is a low-risk relief mechanism, i.e. "hey warning, this block will be accepted now, but not in 6-months", or extensive-extensive testing on simnet. From my understanding, the skills to do it are spread across three projects and that may be the biggest issue with having multiple node implementations, in the same language, that want the same utility. It indeed doesn't look like a 6 month project.
