Abusers are so good at triangulation. They spoiled my sister, so she’ll sometimes reach out and claim that I was part of the problem too. And that I abused her, so it’s I should just move on. I think it’s also quite possible for chat gpt to help build actual documentation for once. It would also be great to ask a question like “I have an X data. How do I get the Y property/relationship?” Like I see it as a very powerful tool in unblocking a lot of tasks. I think search engines will also be very much changed by it. But it is by no means going away.

I use they/them pronouns. Most people are just like “okay this is just how they wanted to be referred to”. But one time I had a job interview, and the recruiter said he wouldn’t do that. So I ended the call and told him not to contact me again. He sent me this long rant about respect on LinkedIn. I just sent that to his employer (a major hotel chain), and never heard anything again. But I’m just trying to understand what he was trying to get out of this situation. I’m a software developer with 10+ years experience, and he was trying to headhunt me. Did he think insulting me was gonna get me to leave my already cushy job where everyone respects me?

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/transgender on November 25, 2022 13:08:47

Thats a non sequiter. I’m saying the only person that has the best understanding of their own identity is themselves. That is not the same thing as saying someone’s belief is true no matter what. The point is that if we are to be empiricist about things, the person who has the most evidence of someone’s own identity is the person themselves. And there may be a bit of trial and error for someone while studying themselves, but that’s for those people to decide not anyone else. What I am accepting no matter is to trust people to live their own lives.

And it was a positive review, that negative feedback didn’t hurt my feelings or make me feel shocked. I understood clearly what I needed to change. This is the type of feedback you want. There are a million tools at my disposal that allow me to really focus on shipping code. I’m really efficient because I don’t have to wait for anything. So I don’t lose 4 hours because my test server isn’t working properly, or my code environment is broken. And I can choose to attend a meeting or not, as I’m given that autonomy. Most companies wouldn’t allow that and as such, I’d be no more efficient than anyone else. And vice versa, I’m sure most engineers with some years of experience would be just as productive as me given the same tools.

Wanting experience in a programming language (or worse specific language version) without a definitive reason. Just using a language or frame work isn’t enough. Most apps just use common use cases, which are easy enough for any decent developer to learn. Especially for a majority roles that do the basic CRUD work. Sure there are some language specific gotchas that have to be learned, but that’s like <1% of the issues I’ve ever had to deal with in 10 years. It made sense before you could easily search online to figure out issues. You wouldn’t want a developer to have to flip through a physical language reference guide to fix basic compilation issues and bugs for a language wouldn’t be fixed for months or even years. Now, unless you are in a speciality where language issues are common, or you are using an esoteric language that is not searched, what is the point? I’m sure there are other reasons. But personally I have never started a role where I knew the programming language prior to working there.

And it’s like fair, but make that expectation clear. “If these people aren’t invited, I won’t pay for anything.” He had a bunch of unstated expectations and got mad when they weren’t met. What role are you trying to land? If you’re looking for a developer position, and you list that you know both OS and cloud architecture that itself would be a huge feat. And none of your experience speaks to that skills. You have one website developer job, some technical support roles, and a year of school from 20 years ago. Where did you learn OS? Where did you learn cloud architecture? Where did you learn all these skills? Just pare it down to the skills you can show from your experience. You have website dev job, list the tech you used there. And some of the soft skills you have from tech support. Remove all the non-technical jobs you’ve held. Remove your education section altogether.

As someone who loves going to Disney parks when I can afford it, I kind of appreciate it as a way of feeling welcome. Honestly of any place I go to, I feel really safe there. Every cast member is amazing and makes me feel so welcomed. Nevertheless, I absolutely hate the company (and this is definitely rainbow washing), but I love the workers and this makes me happy. I’m self taught. So I don’t many things that many others know. But you just have to be willing to learn those things. There’s always gonna be something you don’t know. The key to that not negatively impacting you is to just be willing to learn new things. Don’t complain that you don’t know something if you’re asked to do something. If you don’t know something, write it down, or say you’ll need to investigate/review to make sure it applies in this case. And learn it. If you can’t figure it out your own, don’t feel embarrassed to ask a teammate if they can set aside some time to provide some guidance. Make sure you properly thank them. I often add a thanks to the end of stand up for someone who helped me out a lot. Public recognition of the time someone spent helping you is almost always appreciated.

The best advice I have ever been give is that Feedback is not objective. It is an insight into how other people are viewing you and your performance. What that means is that the feedback may be “jojo is bad at timelines”. But let’s say you never miss the deadline. What could be the issue? Well, obviously the person giving feedback is an idiot. But we can’t fix that. So let’s think about how we can increase visibility of hitting deadlines to the reviewer. If it’s a manager I’d just say in a 1:1, “I have a plan to act on your feedback. I’d like to do (thing) to increase visibility into my work and timeline.” No need to get defensive and say “I’m hitting all my deadlines.” It won’t work and it’s just an impasse. Apply that engineering brain to solving the feedback you’re getting.

I would leave out the company names in this post. But stock anything for a start up should be counted as $0 in raw compensation IMO. Options allow you to purchase stock at a guaranteed price. So your 15k in stock options gives you the right to purchase Y many stocks at X price (where Y=15k/X). You can make money with this if the value of the stock goes over the price you paid. It’s not really worth much unless you fully believe there will be an IPO. And if you are acquired they may not have to honor your options, or they revalue them or something. That depends on how lucky you are tbh

What variables have you isolated to show that there exists no women that can compete at that level? It’s just your misogyny and claiming the existence of the lack of women in sports (or science or anything else) is indicative of their skill. Its a logical fallacy and it’s unscientific.

I think you’re doing great as is. Some people are just gonna try to put you in a box regardless. Im a transfemme enby, I’ve gotten to a place in my transition where I’m gendered male 70% of the time and female 30% of the time - regardless of what I’m wearing. However, If you want to appear more masc, the thing you want to do is accentuate more angles. So the big round glasses would be better off with rectangular glasses. you want your pants to look a strait cut (chinos I’ve been told are good for hiding hips). Baggy shirts don’t necessarily make you look more typically masc (there are some male styles that do wear really baggy shirts like oversized white tee style). Men wear typically wear shirts that are tighter on the arms and have a straight cut to their waste. Button up shirts I’ve been told are good for this. As far as facial features, I don’t think adding in shadow with makeup will have the intended effect (unless you are amazing with makeup). Focus on your making your eyebrows thicker and less curved. And don’t hide your forehead. A skull that went through testosterone based puberty will have a larger forehead than estrogen based puberty. Think about wearing your hat/hair in a way that makes your forehead look bigger.

It also just plays into typical misogynistic ideas of what a woman is too. It’s ridiculous how many people are buying into it. It’s just accepted that any “woman” is inherently physically inferior to any “man” (by which they usually refer to assigned gender at birth). And that’s just not the case at all. Especially at the extremes of top tier athletes who’s bodies are already so far from the “average”.

It would have set off a whole chain of events that would likely reshape the world forever. But the idea that Trump would’ve controlled the entire USA as it stands is impossible. There are so many deep divisions in this country that it would have caused a revolution. And most importantly, as you said a general strike would just completely throw everything as we know into question. A general strike would mean an entire upheaval of everything. Trump is lucky the coup failed. The outcome was never president for life.

Yea, the later us definitely true. I’ve seen so many people argue for “better design”. Only for that to be more complicated and buggy than the “hacky” solution. In all honesty the only refactoring I really advocate for is deleting code.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/cscareerquestions on June 9, 2022 20:04:29

If you can write code you’re fine. The hardest part will be learning to code as a job. It is difficult translating business requirements into code. That’s a skill that just takes time to build. Also, do not underestimate the value of being polite, professional, and develop good communication skills. Someone who is pleasant to work with and can get things done will always have a job. If you can also communicate well, then you got a long career ahead of you. Develop these skills. Remember you are being paid to code for someone else, provide the best expertise you can but do not put down personal stakes. Many times a bad decision will be made, and you will have to go with it. Raise your objections, and alternatives. But if that isn’t what happens, do not take it personally or let it anger you. This is another important skill.

Short term wins mean performance reviews go well. The incentives all the way down are short term thinking. But from a business perspective, the goal isn’t to build a long term solution. It’s to make money. And money today is better than money tomorrow.

So you don’t even have to get on the most cutting edge teams to find a role with a positive social impact. That said, these orgs are essentially good will and marketing. This sounds legitimately horrible. But I can say 10 years out from the start of my career, figuring out how to navigate bullshit like this now will be a valuable learning experience. You are learning how software works in the real world. A lot of the time it’s rushed, poorly scoped, and difficult to move forward. Do what you can, and figure out how you can make progress/move forward. The most important thing you are learning now is looking out for red flags. Think back and see if there were any questions you could have asked to identify these pain points. Think about what you were told about the position and what you could have used to see how shit things actually are.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/cscareerquestions on May 27, 2022 14:09:10

Honestly tho, a shitty internship is one of the best learning experiences you will ever have. You will see bad processes, bad design, bad organization, bad architecture and other bad practices all through your career (hopefully not all at once). Take this an opportunity to learn how to work through this shit. This experience will be of great use once your in a better workplace. You will be surprised how those skills can come into play, and it will give you insight on what to avoid.

This is gonna blow up in their face. American rural areas have been mostly conservative for the past bit, but rural politics is not universally conservative. Many socialist movements started in rural areas (the NDP in Canada in the 60s for example). I’m not saying this because I’m suggesting that rural America will suddenly become Bolsheviks. But more to challenge the conservatives belief that they are the sole beneficiary of rural America. It will eventually come to an end. These type of actions always become their opposite. Basically, I’m saying the GOP is the party of self-owns.

But frankly as someone who likes animation, I tend to dislike anime series adapted from manga because it has the subplots that go on for such a long time.

Im gonna be real. I did what you did but with philosophy. I went to grad school. And then I dropped out because I hated it. Grad school Liberal Arts is very different. In some ways for the better and some ways worse. You are in much more free form classes on very specific topics with much longer classes. Depending on your school you may also have TA duties. You will make no money, and you will diving into things you don’t care about for a lot of your classes. I ended up dropping out. Because it became a slog and there was no end goal I had in mind. I loved learning philosophy, but I didn’t care about many of the things I was learning about. Academic jobs are harder and harder to find in the liberal arts. While you do gain many valuable skills, finding employers who see that can be difficult. So a lot of the work experience you have may just be ignored. So, I spent a lot of time to get back into CS, when I could’ve just finished it and been way better off financially and I would be much further in my career. I say, still keep studying English, take all the courses you can get your hand on. But get your degree in CS. Don’t bother with a double major, it’s not worth the headache it causes with your course selection. Get a minor and just take as many courses as you can. If there’s a closed course you really want to take that’s for majors only, ask the professor for an exception.

Like green tea and black are the same plant. Even just black teas vary widely in their blend; earl grey, English breakfast, and orange pekoe. They all taste extremely different. I don't know if it was intentional but it works narratively for me. It was a 'Captain America' speech. But he's new to this and kind of sucks at it. It's no 'Endgame' or 'Winter Soldier' speech. But it does give his character room to grow, and if the writers are able to give him a better speech in future movies it would definitely be a payoff.

When you work in a company there is a lot more to your performance than just your raw output. You will have projects depending on other people. It could be other departments, cross function team members (design, pm, etc) or just other engineers. If you are doing well you will build relationships with others and know how to get things done and you know who to rely on. You will also build a reputation. If you are known for doing good work, you can use that to better build your work relationships. And those work relationships can be instrumental in navigating a workplace. It can be as simple as just getting your work done to knowing things that are happening in the company (like what projects are happening or changes to prepare for). It's not the end all be all. It's just something to consider when moving companies. You have to consider what the worth of your relationships at a company are. Most of the time it's just good relationships with your immediate team. But at my current job I've somehow managed to build a bunch of relationships with other orgs and departments, and I've become the go to for a lot of things which has helped me get a quick promotion. It can go the other way too. I've left a job because I had negative relationships. So, it's just about understanding the 'value' your work relationships have. It's hard to build social capital, and it matters more as you become more senior. So it's important to consider how much You have when looking for a new job. Honestly in this market wages are so high that it likely isn't going to factor to much, but it's good to keep in my mind.

I agree with the overall sentiment. I didn't say they should never have written it. I just don't think it works with the core of the character. But I agree that it's good to do things like Ultimates. Experimenting with characters is good, and that means trying things that sometimes end up conflicting with what the character is. It's how to figure out what works and what doesn't. When I say that it was a character assassination, I was mostly being hyperbolic for a (lame) comedic attempt. I still don't like the Ultimates but it does hep define the core of who Cap is.

Experimenting with new stories does mean learning from what works and what doesn't. I think Marvel did a great job picking out what did work and moving them to the mainstream.

I think the reason is that writting a GUI that's more intuitive than just '\[command\] \[targets\] \[options\]' is VERY hard. And GUI based actions tend to either serve a general use case, or tend to be very overloaded. With a cmd line there is more fine control, and more atomic actions. So, I wouldn't say a cmd line is faster to use than GUIs carte blanche. But generally if you need to do something specific that a GUI isn't already doing or need to have a fine level control a terminal is better.

I do believe there needs to be education about drugs and addiction. Primarily, the conversation should be how to identify symptoms of addiction, how to receive treatment, and other medical information regarding recreational drug use. But that would be a very different program that would treat addiction as a medical issue.

I agree. These aren't instructional videos on how to fight aliens. These are stories. The reason I love Marvel comics in general is that each hero (and often villain) has different conceptions of what the good is, or if it even matters. And this brings characters into conflicts. The MCU carries that tradition. I think why Marvel movies are so great is that the actions of characters are meant to represent something. They are at their best when they a metaphor for emotions, ideology, philosophy, etc. Part of Star-Lord's character is that he's selfish, and he works on this throughout the movie by carrying about his family. And those two things are often at odds. So when he finds out Gamora is dead, the one person who probably motivated him the most to not be entirely selfish, he's devastated. And he can't put aside his own feelings for the good of the galaxy. Personally, his actions in Infinity War are fascinating to me. It really shows his character growth and flaws at the same time. It's what good story does.

I think that’s part of the point of the character. He was always trying to “atone” for his mistakes but made things worse because he had to control everything. This goes to the argument in the first avengers. That he “wasn’t the guy to make the sacrifice play”. Cap was saying he was not fully willing to take on the responsibility but felt entitled that he was a hero. This is also echoed when Cap says “always a way out” in the same scene. And IMO this gives his death in End Game a lot of depth. Tony finally had to face the fact that HE had to take on those responsibilities. And in the same time this caused Cap to realize that he wasn’t solely responsible for everything that ever happened.

This. Strange literally thought he was in control in the mirror dimension. he also didn’t expect Peter to be able to fight against him when he separated out his spirit from his body. A lot of the movie is just Strange being dismissive of Peter. In fact it’s not even the fight. Strange had a kid who is in way over his head show up at his doorstep desperate for help. What he could’ve done is help him navigate this world he’s now in. Peter needed guidance and mentorship, but Strange was dismissive of that too.

I think that’s the most likely case, but it could be better that any powers just don’t work inside the TVA. And we only see a handful of agents. Now that said, if there were super powered agents we think we would’ve seen them hunt down Sylvia. Or, if we take He Who Remains at his word maybe we don’t because he didn’t want that. Either way, there could be many aspects of the TVA we haven’t seen.

If you get rid of the Harry Osborne and Secret agent parent stuff, You could’ve had room for some more character development for Electro. There are misses with the Electro designs and some of the fights, but if that’s all it was I think the movie could’ve been fine.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/marvelstudios on December 17, 2021 10:23:44

I 100% agree! The only thing I would’ve loved to have seen (and this is not a criticism), is references to Spider-Man stories from Maguire and Garfield that we don’t see on screen. I’m not sure if it would’ve worked. But in the scene where they talked about the craziest bad guys they fought it would’ve been cool for them to talk the things we haven’t seen - especially if Kingpin is referenced. Or when Garfield is talking about if there’s anyone in his life, if he references someone like Black Car or Silver Sable, but keeping the tone of his lines similar. I’m not a writer, but it plays something like this in my head: **Garfield**: “not really, I don’t have time for Peter Parker stuff” **Maguire**: “yea, it’s not easy in our line of work. But I made it work with MJ. \[Etc etc.\] But it’s worth it” **Garfield**: “well there is someone… but it’s not going to work” **Maguire**: “I know spider-man has lots of enemies, but without a family to go home to it’s easy to lose yourself” (also foreshadowing Holland’s sacrifice later in the movie) **Garfield**: “it’s not that. She’s a jewel thief” **Maguire**: “oh…” I think it would give a sense of the their stories continuing after their movies. But, I also concede it could add confusion or taken away the impact of revisiting the characters.

My understanding is that the spell effectively meant that the Holland universe Peter Parker doesn’t exist. So anyone in the multi-verse can’t come to that universe because there is no Peter Parker to find. If you know programming, it’ll be like Dr. strange set that universe’s instance of the Peter Parker variable to null/undefined.

This is a common point raised by the UBI crowd. And it completely misses the point of this criticism. Who's going to pay for UBI? The common response is either Modern Monetary Theory or tax the rich. The latter is just a fantasy. The capitalist system is created in the interest of the capitalist class. The idea that we can just "tax the rich" more is something that has never happened outside the context of an imminent threat of revolution (i.e. the New Deal). Which socialists at the time pointed out was only there to buy the capitalist time, and that these gains will be taken over time through austerity, inflation, and other mechanisms. As long as workers are divorced from the means of production this cannot be sustained. The MMT idea is basically the idea that we can print more money to give to people. And this misunderstands what money is. [Money is not just a pretend thing]( It represents access to some portion of the the total wealth created by society. That is to say it represents the value created by workers. You can't create more value (i.e. more stuff, services, etc) by printing more money. That's like saying you can get more fish by pouring water into the ocean. My point isn't that I don't want workers to have more money. My point is that UBI misunderstands that wealth inequality isn't just a matter of some people having more money. It's about power. It's about the fact that capitalism is a system where access to capital is power in society.

The video spends so much time hammering on the point that the there is a fanbase that's overly invested emotionally, and that Disney spends a lot of effort cultivating that relationship. So it would make sense if the point was that actual movie is sacrificed in order to create that relationship. But that doesn't seem to be the point they're making. Instead it's what you're pointing out. They're chastising people for their obsession, while justifying their own obsession.

It’s a bit of theme in Marvel that the characters are motivated by guilt. A lot of their self-sacrifice is almost entirely driven by the need to punish themselves. Daredevil is very overt about this. But Clint’s hearing aid definitely fits in that line. Sam’s financial state and his unwillingness to be Cap initially. Black Widow has a lot of this. I’m sure there’s more, but I find it interesting that this literary interpretation can be made.

Any decent SWE jobs won't care what your degree(s) is in. My only degree is in liberal arts. The big disadvantage I would see with the MS EE in regards to learning software development is that you'll be working on a lot of non-software development projects even if you do a lot of coding in that degree. That may or may not end being helpful depending on your career goals. With the Computer Engineering role, this is likely less of an issue. Especially if you go into an embedded systems role. Again, it depends on your career goals. If you want to work on web development, the knowledge you gained in an ECE degree may be useful, but you won't be learning much, if any, core web development technologies. So, think about the following: \* Would you be okay going into an EE or CE career? Or, do you only want to do software development? \* What type of software would you want to work on? \* What industries are interesting to you?

There's nothing scarier than a blank page (or IDE in this case). Here's an article that might help: []( What I typically do is pick something I'm interested in and make a project about it. If you require a lot of external data (for example, prices), just make up data to get started. Then figure out how you want to get data into your app. Usually you'll need one or some combination of user input, manual data entry, web scraping, and external APIs.

Well, now they want to hire them back and now they have to compete with each other to hire staff. It's always the free market is great, until it doesn't serve their interests. But what did Marx say, "The capitalist create their own gravediggers". The more important thing is that most workers are just done. They're sick of this system. It ends up costing more to add means testing or targeted programs (see medicare in Canada vs US). But then again it has nothing to do with sensible policy, and everything to do with keeping some people in a tremendous amount of power and wealth.

It wouldn’t be more money necessarily to those who are able to job hop easily. Marx pointed out that a union can only ensure that a worker is paid their full value of their labour-value. So for those who are able to get a new job easily the money argument isn’t going to be compelling. BUT it would be better in almost every other aspect of working conditions. Ensuring that workers actually have a mechanism of getting grievances addressed (and compensation if necessary), making sure conditions of work don’t deteriorate , and having mechanisms to actually change things beyond pseudonymous surveys that are ignored. It also means a great deal more stability in working conditions. No more mass firings (remember how things were when the lockdown first happened? Whole departments were laid off). And let’s not forget by organizing, and most importantly, we can unite with workers outside of our field to fight for better conditions for all.

It sounds like you want the internship, but are worried you are passing up an important opportunity by not taking the full time offer. Honestly, go with the project you want. The full time offer isn’t that great. In fact, the salary is downright bad if it’s a full time offer in the US. You say you are not in need of benefits. So that doesn’t really matter at the moment. The internship has a more interesting tech stack to you. Does it have a more interesting project? Overall, don’t stress. Nothing here is going to ruin your life. Pick the job that sounds inline with what you want to do. If it doesn’t work out, look for a way to move on.

This is pure speculation on my part, and I have zero evidence for this is in any way. But I don’t think the push for WFH is going to negatively push down salaries. It goes two ways, there are more devs available but there are also now more jobs. And if I understand correctly there’s still a relative surplus of jobs to developers. But who knows, we live in a dystopian capitalist hell world. If corporations find a way to lower our wages, they will.

I agree with you. In many ways, Tony whole arc from the first movie is dealing with guilt and trying to find redemption. Him doing the “sacrifice play” is a fitting end to that. Where he gives up everything, but gains what he’s looking for all along. It’s a very poetic end. Cap sacrificing himself, is something we expect out of Cap. It’s meaningful, and it’s a tragic end. But he has time and time again done that. I like the fact that cap “retired” and had a good life. He’s finally accepted that he doesn’t have to bear the entirety of the worlds burdens. That h allowed himself happiness. Which is a great arc for him.

Most restaurant miso soup adds a few cubes of silken tofu and a few leaves of Wakame seaweed. You can order all of the above on Amazon or find it any asian grocery store, but you can put whatever you want in it. 1. The number of times I’ve had to do anything complicated that involved math in my career was like twice in 10 years. 2. No. I didn’t even go to university and was self taught 3. Mostly try to figure out what im supposed to do. Write some code, get feedback, respond to feedback, write code accordingly. And lots of meetings 4. Yup. No shortage of time. 5. Not really. First job was the hardest. After that it’s been pretty easy. Even after being wrongfully terminated and suing my employer. 6. Both. Tech company offices can be pretty plush. I like the office because it’s easier to separate work from home life. But I wouldn’t work anywhere that wouldn’t let me work from home on a whim. 7. Getting bogus code reviews, performance evaluations. Otherwise it’s pretty easy 8. Patience, keeping an open mind, willingness to be wrong and admit that you were wrong, ability to work with others. The solitary coder savant isn’t a useful role really anymore since projects usually have to integrate across many different functions. There’s no shortage of these types of people but I have seen them sidelined for much of my career (YMMV this is just what I have seen). 9. Often time problems you encounter don’t have clear solutions. Be comfortable with being confused.

In my first job, I thought about how we are doing so many things “wrong”. Getting rid of that mindset helped me a lot. Learning how to accept those trade offs and working around them, knowing what to prioritize, what to work on, and when that tech debt is no longer worth the trouble is all part of becoming a more experienced developer. At the end of the day, working in a business means producing things to be sold and be useful. What the product needs to achieve that is going to depend on the market, the customers, etc etc My career has taken off once I understood that. Maybe other experiences are different but this has helped me get to the senior level and excel.

Also, as a side not, to address your lockdown point. Lockdowns are very inefficient and heavy hammer to address community spread of the virus. What's more effective is contact tracing and mass testing. Lock downs are really only sufficient if they are incredibly restrictive AND they are accompanied by contact tracing and mass testing. The partial lockdowns that the US are doing are entirely ineffective, and really don't stop transmission if you have major centers of community spread (like meat packing plants that have had outbreaks across the USA and Canada) or crowded living conditions (like many of the housing centers for migrant farmers). The countries that have best handled the pandemic have had massive investment into contact tracing and testing. Something that US and Canadian responses have really failed to do.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/DisneyWorld on February 6, 2021 11:16:15

I think you need to read your source: The short answer is that people who have recovered from COVID-19 cannot spread the virus to others **unless they become reinfected themselves.** ***The bad news is that reinfection is possible.*** Also read this: []( The original article is saying you can be infected, as in when bacteria, viruses **or** other microbes enter your body and begin to multiply. You can be infected AND not develop COVID. Your immune system will kill the Coronavirus if you have immunity before you develop Covid. That does not mean that you cannot transmit the virus. That is a function of viral load.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/DisneyWorld on February 6, 2021 11:11:16

It's not relevant because I'm not saying Disney should be lockdown. I'm talking about individual actions that could be used. But you already said you'd take two weeks off work and you live alone. That's quarantining... So there's no disagreement. But the other thing that you need to consider is not whether or not you'll develop COVID again. You can still transmit the Corona19 virus even if you're immune. This is the difference between contamination and infection.

Spending time isolating yourself after a visit to the parks to ensure that you are not a carrier is a perfectly reasonable way to mitigate the risk of transmission to others, even if you have immunity to the virus.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/DisneyWorld on February 6, 2021 10:32:40

I’m not sure where you’re getting that number of “1 year” because plenty of people have gotten infected twice in way shorter of time. We’ve only been in quarantine for about year. The other thing is that there is no concrete effectiveness of the antibody. And finally, you can still transmit the virus even if you’re immune. The point is that you CAN go to the parks, but you need to address the risk you’re introducing. Obviously social distancing and masking do that. Added things like not flying, having your groceries delivered, and quarantining after your visits are way of doing that. Just like driving is dangerous, which is why you should wear seatbelt, get your brakes inspected, make sure your headlights work, etc .

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/DisneyWorld on February 6, 2021 09:53:30

I think you can take actions to mitigate risk at the theme parks, and Disney is doing that. But you’re argument is poor. Saying something else is risky doesn’t make doing another risky thing valid. That’s like saying “driving is not safe so we shouldn’t wear seatbelts” The whole point is that when you take on increased risk (going to a place with crowds for example) then you should mitigate that risk by other means. So it would be perfectly valid to say, I avoid all social contact except going to the parks to offset the risk of going to the parks. But to say I’m already doing something risky, so I’m going to do something else risky isn’t a valid argument.

I’m pretty forgiving of the b&e thing not calling the police because it can have ramifications for the dealership and the kids lives so Daniel and Amanda might go to the police there. But they can go to the police in season 4 too. But you’re a teenager and a bunch of hooligans steal stuff at your work? You just go to your boss and let them deal with it. It’s not even your stuff who gives a shit. Also Sam’s idea of starting a fight in a laser quest was also pretty stupid

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/cobrakai on January 6, 2021 07:03:20

My head cannon is that Daniel and Amanda are worried about the legal ramifications for the kids. Daniel did let Hawk go to his school at the end after all. And I’m sure the dealership might also be a consideration. Imagine after the high school fight, you defend karate to have a tournament and then another karate gang fight happens at the owner’s home. I feel that a scene where kreese implies that the kids to this and that they shouldn’t worry about ramifications because the Larusso’s would lose everything if they go to the police would be a great addition

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/cobrakai on January 6, 2021 07:00:47

It’s pretty easy to get a restraining order. All Kreese would have to show is that Amanda showed up, she is not a client, and he does not want there. It’ll likely be granted by the courts unless there would be some adverse consequences of the restraining order. But the courts would not say attending a karate dojo no where near your house is a concern they have to give.

It’s up to the courts to decide if they have jurisdiction. So they could file in both, or one or the either and the courts would decide from there. There are plenty of cases of defamation lawsuits across borders. And depending on the specifics it can be taken up in many different ways. With the fact that these personalities are online and if this book is published online as well, there would be plenty of reasons to seek damages in both countries. But at the end of the day the deciding factor is where can you get money from? If the defendant has no UK assets, it doesn’t really matter much if you sue them because it’s be hard to get a British court to force collection from a US based defendant unless it’s some ridiculously large case or something vital to the government

I agree. Even on its own merits of "useful minors", it's not a great list. Take for example his comment about "computer science" as a minor. Computer science isn't about programming languages . It's more akin to mathematics than software or technology. You may learn to program as a necessary requirement to be able to understand CS. There's a great a quote often attributed to Esdgar Dijkstra that goes "*Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes."* There are minors that are more suited for learning to program or technology development in general. And there's also the question of what your post-graduate plans are after undergrad. A minor can be a great way to bridge from your current degree to a masters/phd program, law school, medical school, etc. The fact that none of this is mentioned at all just makes this list kind of garbage imo.

Yes, stealing is wrong. Nobody is defending that. At the same time, a kid does not steal felony levels of money. And kids generally don't have a good understanding of the full consequences of their actions. This is why legal systems usually have different courts and sentencing for minors. The problem is that Chuck was blinded by his hatred of Jimmy to the point that he accused Jimmy of crimes way out of proportion. It would be like if Jimmy pushed a kid on the playground, and Chuck claimed it was attempted murder. Nobody thinks kids getting into fights on the playground is a good thing, but it's an entirely different thing to claim that a kid getting into a schoolyard scrap is murder.

I think the point was that Jimmy stole \*some\* money, but that their dad was also gave away money to every conman that batted his eyes. And there was a greater point here. Chuck is somewhere between 10-20 years older than Jimmy. So Chuck was basically accusing a child of stealing $14,000. I think that's part of the point of the show. Jimmy makes bad decisions, but Chuck has made him out into some terrible monstrosity.

The movie can have problems, but if you're talking about why something happened within any specific narrative and want it to make sense you have to accept what happened to have that conversation.

I grew up in these circles. The prosperity is important, but it's not just material wealth. That's definitely a part of it. But what is promoted is that god is your source of wealth, happiness, love, and literally everything. Honestly, growing up it was much more about being devout than becoming wealthy. It was taken by their followers that ANYTHING you had, no matter how little was a gift from god. And therefore you had a duty to give it to the church. I'm not saying this is good. It's obviously abusive. But the youtube atheist collection of clips really doesn't do justice for what these people do. Even in the comments in response to me, there are people quoting scripture that shows the hypocrisy of these people. People who believe in this aren't stupid. They have a genuine and deep belief. The people at the top are unscrupulous bastards who take advantage of this.

Guilt, fear, and social control are powerful motivators. People genuinely believe that if you don't do tithe you will be punished. And there are also entire communities where this is believed. Being caught not tithing or not tithing enough, can cause social ostracization. But beyond that this person is tapping into people's core belief that there is a hell and a god. And you must prove your love to god. So many people aren't sending a lot in absolute sense, but way more than they can afford. And that also drives the guilt and fear. You're not doing enough to prove your love to god. You're not tithing enough. This person is taking advantage of vulnerable people in desperate situations. But also is only part of an ecosystem of abuse.

LSV had a discussion on Temur Adventures in Limited Resources and he explained why it's so hard to beat. He went 10-0 in the arena mythic tournament last weekend. The problem is that they are executing two gameplans simultaneously. They have an aggro beat down plan with lovestruck beasts, and they have the card advantage engine with Inn Keeper and Lucky Clover. It's hard to fight off the pressure and combat the massive card advantage they have. I agree that this is clearly the best deck at the moment. And I have no idea what we can craft to do this. The advantage RDW had prior to this was that all the other decks would basically goldfish for the first few turns. Which means we could go ham and win while they were setting up. But Adventures doesn't do this. So I'm at a loss for where to go from here.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/spikes on March 7, 2020 09:47:46

Yea, I'm trying to think of how to get around it, but I got nothing other than hand disruption. Which is what you're saying with rakdos. Maybe, we can make use of that Cratermaker goblin? It's not as slow as the shieldbreaker? And can play double duty in killing random dorks.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/spikes on February 29, 2020 16:13:21

I just don't think the Goblin does enough fast enough. It's slow for what this deck is wanting to do. I've been playing with this build, and the Temur Adventure deck is just a beatdown with it's clovers. I think going smaller is better against it, then the Seth Manfield version. So I prefer this deck build. But I think there's just too much card advantage and tempo gain made by Temur Rec. Not sure how to counteract that effectively. Them getting a double or even triple Petty Theft, Stomp, or Granted has just put me in a point where I can't recover. What's nice by going smaller is that we offset that tempo gain by making them invest more mana than we are. But it almost makes me want to take out Anax and go even smaller. But of course that comes at the expense of a long game. Which honestly, we don't win anyway. The other thing that has been absolutely OBNOXIOUS is that people are maindecking blast zone to deal with adventures. Which is basically gives every deck a free colorless wrath against us. Anyway, thanks for the great write up as always :)

Oh, there are definitely games where you run out of gas, but to be honest I honestly feel that LutS wouldn't really do much in those situation. And overall, LutS soothes out mana more than it continues the gas, unless you have a Steam-kin online and going. Not that LutS isn't great, but it's slow. Torbran on the other hand would have definitely broken stalemates that I have found myself in, and didn't really have anywhere to go. There are also many, many games that if it wasn't for heartfire to the face that I wouldn't have gone through the finish line. I feel Crokeyz build requires you to really make very careful decisions with all your cards. You do have to play a tighter game. And don't get me wrong, there are games that I have punted but if I had a Torbran I would have still won. But what I have also found is my win percentage is higher on average. But this is also highly meta dependent. Midrange is a very hard matchup on average without LutS and Torbran. Your creatures don't get much value compared to theirs, and you have trouble racing. So there's a lot to consider. There's not a 1 and done decision to be made.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/spikes on February 23, 2020 21:21:38

I think the most important thing about the mirror is about Tempo and Card Advantage. You don't have many defensive cards. And this is something I see a lot, spending turn 2 to kill a creature can actually give your opponent a huge advantage. You're not gaining any card advantage, and if you're not developing your board you are losing tempo. This is more the case if you go first. And this is the problem of doubling down on more burn. You may be able to kill their creatures, and draw them out of resources but you are not gaining any resources in doing so. The current red deck is not a control deck, so it doesn't have a threat that can just be played on it's own. UW for example can do these small trades and build up card advantage through other cards, slow down your tempo with Teferi (while not losing any card advantage!), and then drop a dream trawler or archon that you just have no way of dealing with. RDW isn't like that. Even if you kill all their creatures, and they have an empty hand, you would also likely have an empty hand or close to it. So you haven't advanced your position. And it's actually quite likely that while you have been trying to disrupt their board, you haven't invested sufficiently on your board. Now, this isn't the case for the Giant with stomp because you kill a creature w/o losing a card. Which is why this card is so vital in the mirror despite the fact that it's a bit slow compared. /u/RedDeckWeekly and many of the articles he posts are great resources to learn more about the deck. But in particular I like Mengucci's article about RDW at worlds on CFB. It gets into what makes the deck tick. It is at the end of the day not a burn deck. You don't try to just hit your opponent and then try to burn them out. You win on the board with fast, efficient creatures. So, you have to remember that is your plan. And in the mirror it's about who can develop a better board. That is your priority. You will not win the mirror consistently if your primary decision is just to try to stop them from doing stuff. You have to put yourself in a position where your board state is better than theirs. Which means you can't rush your burn. It has to be judicially applied to put you on top on board. Anyway, my 2 cents (take it or leave it :P ) is that how you play the deck matters way more than trying to find secret tech that can dominate the mirror. IMO tempo is the single most important thing to follow, followed by card advantage to the mirror.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/spikes on February 23, 2020 13:20:53

In my opinion, this is really deck dependent. I think for the RDW that are built like the Worlds decks, it's just too slow on average. If you get a Knight out it can swing the game. But it's a bit clunky imo in the mirror. You kind of have the right draw to make it work. I haven't found it to be too effective when it's used against me, and it hasn't been too effective for me when I used it. That said, that changes if the game goes to the long game and it makes your threats just that much better than your opponents. It does make the deck a bit more threat heavy later in the game which can also matter in some of the control matches. I know saying "that depends on your deck" is a bit of a useless comment (isn't that the case for all cards lol). But what I'm trying to get is that you really have to build your deck a bit differently to take advantage of the Spear. You can't just throw into Mengucci's world build and expect to win the mirror. I hope this comment doesn't come off as condescending or anything. Just throwing in my two cents :)

Sorry for the spam everyone, but I haven't been impressed with \[\[Scorch Spitter\]\] recently. The fact that it doesn't have haste, doesn't have first strike, or evasion. Makes me rather play \[\[Tin Street Dodger\]\] and/or \[\[Grim Initiate\]\] over it. Most people are playing the 4x Fervent Champions, 4x Scorch Spitters, and then if they play another 1 drop it's usually Tin Street Dodger or Grim Initiate. But Scorch Spitter is the standard card to play. And it makes sense in a perfect world it deals a lot of damage. But I have found it just gets road blocked fast. Grim Initiate on the other hand is so great T1 on the draw against the mirror. It can just swing the tempo a bit more in your favor. There is no 1 drop that it Grim Initiate doesn't just present itself as a unwinnable trade. (Except for an oppossing Initiate, and even then i'd probably still take the trade for both of us to get 1/1 tokens instead of 1/1 first strikers if they attack).

I agree with Mengucci's article that Frenzy isn't that good against the UW Control decks. You not only have to deal counters and terferi, but also Elspeth Conquers death. And it's just not enough value. It's better to get in early with enough pressure to force them to wrath with cards held back. A second chandra is excellent for that, because you can get two turns with it before they can play ECD. Teferi isn't great against her, and she's cheap enough to get in before they are able to set up counters. And she gets around wraths. Here's the article I'm referencing: []([all-strategy/articles/battling-with-standard-mono-red-at-worlds/](

Call me crazy, but I've been maindecking \[\[Claim The Firstborn\]\]. It is an incredibly versatile card. It obviously has the steal your opponent's creature for a turn. Which can even be useful against u/W when they bust out a 0/4 wall token, and you just get a way to remove. But it can also be played to give a creature haste, which can be good when your opponent drops teferi, bounces anax and you slam back with him. Obviously the loss of card advantage is a very high cost in that scenario, but you can play that option out. And if you ever really need to act like a creature has vigilence you can just untap a creature after attacking. I've never had to use that last scenario, but it's there. But the main reason I've been playing it is that it can just win game 1 of the mirror against aggro. An opponent drops cleave to early? Sweet free cleave. I am also running it with heartfire in the deck, so sometimes you get a way to kill 2 creatures, and clear the board. Obviously, there's no card advantage there but it's can be a huge swing in tempo. Anyway, we'll see how long it'll last. It's been doing pretty well in the mythic b03, but I've been unable to break the top 100. But that may not be Claim's fault, it could just be because I like to throw away games because I am a perpetual failure ;P

It looks like the person was laughing at her. She could be doing nothing out of the ordinary and that can make you feel embarrassed. I also imagine it's the lack of control. When you post something, you made the decision to be viewed one way. Where as this was out of your control. You could argue that there's no difference in these situations, and that intellectually you should now better. But if human psychology were that simple I think therapy would be a whole lot cheaper lol :P

The cast members will take photos with your camera, but it cuts down the interaction time and the photos don't turn out as good as when they the photographers are using the camera they use day in and day out. Some of the best photos of my family were taken by photopass photographers.

The OP is NTA. But you're justification is whack. Let's assume the wage gap is 100% real. It would still be wrong to punish this child. The 11 year old has no influence in literally anything. It's not like he's the head honcho of the patriarchy illuminati conspiring to keep gender inequality.

Of course, these doubts and feelings are completely natural. In a sense, it's a way to feel control again. "*Yea! I can fix this! I control this outcome!* " This is a completely normal reaction, and it's incredibly hard to learn to accept that you aren't responsible for your partner's actions. It'll get better with time. Learning to trust again, will also be learning to not to internalize the other person's failures.

I don't know. If it's useful that's great, but to me it seems a bit like a euphemism that the cheater is simply unable to produce the facts. When in reality it's a series of **continued lies by omission.** At best "trickle truth" is leaving out the damning things you haven’t discovered yet. Pregnancy is a natural consequence of sex. If you have consensual sex, you accept that as a consequence. If you do not understand that, you are not ready to be having sex. The fundamental difference if the roles are reversed is that the woman has to carry the child. She has the choice to what happens to her body.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/AmItheAsshole on May 7, 2019 10:01:43

You should not be having sex if you don't understand that having a kid is a consequence. And the CHILD is the one supported here. And it doesn't matter if she lied or changed her mind. You CANNOT force someone to take a MA pill.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/AmItheAsshole on May 7, 2019 09:37:57

She can change her mind. You cannot force someone to take any medication. That is a fundamental bodily right. \> Tried to force you to take care of a child you did not want. Doesn't matter. IF you are the father of a child, you are responsible. You don't get to throw your hands up and say "I don't want to deal with the consequences of my actions". Flip it around. The child never asked for a dumbass kid for a father, and yet he/she is stuck with a dumbass willing to move across the country because he's unwilling to pay child support.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/AmItheAsshole on May 7, 2019 09:04:52

YTA. The responsibility of raising a child falls on the parents. If you are the dad, then you have that responsibility. If you are concerned that you are not the dad, then get a paternity test. Just because she promised to take a MA pill, doesn't mean she is obligated. It's her body. You cannot force take medication, you cannot force her to get an abortion. Nor should you be able to. If you don't want to have children, don't have sex. Especially don't have sex with someone else who doesn't explicitely and honestly agree with your position on not having children. This is YOUR mistake and your responsibility. You are eschewing it. The CHILD is the victim here to be perfectly clear. Running away to a different country, means that you suck here. And the child (nor her) is not ruining your life, your actions have consequences.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. **When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.**” - CS Lewis

Okay, chill chill chill. Wanting a poly relationship doesn't mean it's over. It doesn't even mean your wife doesn't love you or anything. But It looks like you went into way too quick without any boundaries. You need to read some books on the topic, and discuss what's okay and what's not okay. You need to first strengthen your relationship. You need to first talk to your wife and say that your relationship needs to come first for this to work for you. Very few poly or open relationships is anyone is allowed to do anything. Get some books on the subject, and discuss it. Tell your wife you want your relationship to be in a stronger place before you open your relationship. And what she thinks is lacking in your current relationship. And when you do it, baby steps. You shouldn't go from a closed relationship to okay, I'm gonna fuck some dude on the first date. Maybe at first it's just dates for the two of you, and then you progress slowly to what you're comfortable with. You can't just jump into the deep end and expect things to work all right. Learn what works for you and doesn't, and you're going to ALWAYS be discussing the boundaries.

I'm sorry can you explain what you mean by Jitters over PQ? The PQ was decimated in the last elections as well. There's no doubt the political situation in Quebec has always been tumultuous (the 2012 student strikes recently for example brought the then Liberal government to its knees). The [CAQ]( victory certainly doesn't inspire stability either. But in my opinion, the low Canadian dollar is really a matter of a very weak Canadian economy. Which is caused by low cost of raw materials (oil, minerals, lumber) which are major part of the Canadian economy, a housing bubble that makes people very skeptical of investing, large workplace closures, and a very high debt to income ratio in the average Canadian household.

Everything you're feeling is normal. Crushes are normal. Wanting new sexual experiences are normal. Even while you're in a committed monogamous relationship. As far as your crush goes. If you see the same person frequently, that crush can last for a long time. It may always live in the back of your mind as this fantasy that haunts and entices you. There were periods of my life where I definitely had someone like that in my life. But fantasy and reality are two very different things. And I have learned that lesson the hard way. You've told yourself a story so often it starts to carry real weight. Tell yourself a different story about dating this other woman. Imagine terrible situations. Imagine all the worst habits you hate. She hates all your favorite things. Imagine getting in a fight with her, and her breaking her your favorite things. Because that story is just as real as the imagined life you have in your head. You have no idea what a relationship with this friend would actually look like. And look everyone has habits and gestures that you will have to accept about them. You have no idea what other habits out there that aren't even tolerable. I like Dan Savage's phrase here, "Price of admission": []( All people are obnoxious in one way or the other. It's just a matter of learning what you're willing to accept and what you're not. As far as other sexual experiences. New people can be nice, it can also be awful. It really depends on the person. BUT before you even go down that route, I highly recommend you try to spice up your sex life. Tell your partner that you love her and you want to try new things with her. You two should be entirely open about your fantasies, some of which either of you may or may not like. AND THAT'S OK. (remember fantasy is not reality). You can roleplay. You can get toys. Get some books about sex and make an effort to improve your sex life with your partner before you jump out of the relationship. And if that doesn't work you have a better sense of what you're leaving behind and what you're looking for. Only you can decide what you are doing with your life. Try to have a clear idea of what you're looking for before just wandering aimless, and possibly making a decision you will regret. tl;dr: Yes, what you're feeling is normal. Before you leave for greener pastures, try to find what you're looking for in your own relationship. The cost of leaving a relationship is ridiculously high. Make sure it is you know what you're looking before leaving.

Sounds like a quack that's taking your husband for a ride. You have to be blunt with your husband about the evidence you've presented. And demand that he speak with a registered therapist to discuss this. This is not healthy. The other thing you must prepare yourself for is life as a single woman. It doesn't sound like your relationship is healthy, and if your partner is on a destructive path you do not have any obligation to go down it with him.

In a similar situation I called them and said; "I don't want to be together anymore. I don't think you respect my boundaries." I let them rant for a minute, and then said "I don't have anything to else say. I wish you well". And hung up. And I moved on without continuing to contact them or respond to anything they said. One thing that improved my sex life was something I took from Dan Savage, the "four words". Essentially just asking "what are you into". He explains in gay relationships many men are not into penetrative sex, and as such will explore different avenues for sexual pleasure. By not assuming penetrative sex or anything is assumed in the question of do you want to have sex you can greatly reduce the barriers to sexual intimacy. Honestly, it was one of the greatest things to improve my marriage. Here is a video:

You need to prioritize yourself. The problem with the anger and hatred isn't that it's mean. Honestly, who cares about that. You need to put your own happiness first. You can't put it secondary to feeling resentment. You can't put your own happiness dependent on someone else's fortune (or in this case misfortune). I'm not a believer in karmic justice. Terrible people get away with things without experiencing any comeuppance. It's better to let go of that longing for retribution. It's a burden your carrying, and you can just drop it. For a lot of people this is hard to do. Writing a journal really helps, especially if you give yourself the goal of not trying to carry the weight of this resentment. Try to write your entries w/o talking about her. But if you she did dominate your thinking that day be honest. But the goal is to focus your mental energies so that you can think about yourself. Your own goals. Your own dreams. Because that's what you deserve.

At the time of writing, my first comment is at -1. Let me be clear, the other commenters were stating that he could function as a father and then be abandoned without contact of the child. That is not the case in almost any country in Europe if he establishes legal paternity. He will have rights as a father. Now what those rights are in particular vary a lot from US to the EU. And yes, child support will almost certainly come as a responsibility part and parcel with his rights. This is not an easy decision. But it does no good to present comments clearly skewed against child support wholesale and being a father to someone else's child. This is a decision he has to make. Preferably, consulting with a lawyer to discuss what he would want regarding custody, child support, etc.

There are 3.5 billion women in the world, and you think that you know all of them because of bad interactions with like 10 of them? Or because of a sub of people with broken relationships? Would you also refuse to buy a computer because of the techsupport subreddit? Your conclusion is entirely illogical, and to me strikes me as coming from a deeply misogynist place. Women are people. And women who don't want monogamous relationships are people too. The way you demean women for being "cock-thirsty" is frankly disgusting. I suggest you seek out ways to find friendships with women with no intention of romance or sex, because you need to learn how to do that.

Parental rights all around the world vary drastically. But establishing legal paternity is very similar almost everywhere in the world. In almost every country in the world uses the father who signed on the birth certificate as the father, especially if that guy has been functioning as the father.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/relationship_advice on March 15, 2019 06:35:26

The other two commentors are wrong on the legal front. If you're on the birth certificate and playing the role of the father. Realistically, the other guy will have no legal recourse to see the child. You would be the father in the eyes of the law of almost every country in the world. You cannot just demand paternity tests for kids that aren't yours. And pretty much every country uses birth certificates for that. I'm not gonna say what you should do in regards to staying or going. That's a huge life decision that only you can make. But if you do stay, I would recommend that you tell your gf that you are the father legally. You are on the birth certificate. You get custody rights. Draw up a custody plan if you two are separated. And then ftom that point forward you never want to hear that you're not the father.

Your wife isn't acting out polyamory. Polyamorous relationships are built on a lot of trust and communication. Like any relationship there are boundaries and respect for those boundaries. People hear about polyamorous relationships and think that's for them. And I think a partner should be more than free to discuss those feelings and desire. My partner and I have discussed it multiple points in our relationship, and decided it wasn't for us at that stage of life. But we leave it open to discuss again. And then we discuss what our boundaries are right now. But your wife is doing that. She's breaking your trust. If she really wanted a polyamorous relationship she's showing that she's not capable of it. So to be frank, it's bullshit. She is caught up in her own fantasy and trying to justify it. Now what do you want to do? Do you want to leave her or do you want to continue the relationship?

You need to take care of yourself. You won't feel any better if this guys leaves your ex. If everything terrible you hope happens to him actually comes to fruition, beyond the schadenfreude, what do you get? You'll still be lonely and hurt. Stop worrying about what he has. Or what your ex has. Focus on what you have and what you want. Work towards that. You'll start feeling better. There's an old proverb that says the best revenge is living well. Now all that said, I feel terrible for your son. Being locked in his own house. Tell your ex that is not how you treat a child. Just state plainly that you don't care why, but you'll pick him up early. You'll make the work hours work.

Short answer, sometimes its just a matter of picking a starting point and moving forward. Longer answer. There are a lot of ways of breaking down the problem. For a 2d game you will have to do a few things: * display the elements * manage user inputs * move the elements * calculate the physical changes If I'm doing a work project I prefer an iterative approach where I make the most minimal thing possible. And then add to it with a test driven design. So i would likely first display one or two elements. Then have the user input. Then I would break down what interactions I want and implement them 1 by 1. If I'm doing something at home to hack bits together. It'll likely be a smaller version of that, with some shortcuts taken.

Robberies on the street did happen, but it would be very quick. You threw out your wallet. Now they'll also demand your phone. But I got accustomed to carrying a decoy wallet with $25-40 pesos.

Not getting vaccines can easily mean a dead child. Not getting appropriate medicl care can easily mean a dead child. I do not want to understate this. Your ex's beliefs can kill your child. You are a bright young person who wants to step up for their kid. You have to fight for this. Get a lawyer and demand full custody on the basis of medical care. If there is a Compromise, and she agrees to vaccination. Double check all the documents. There was a post on legal advice about an ex forging vaccination docs and the child caught a preventable disease and died. You can finish your masters. Your family will help you. Don't let someone who isn't willing to even take care of their own health kill your child.

It seems that you're saying that you're attracted to girlfriend beyond just her physical appearance. That there are things beyond her body you're attracted to that make her a great partner. And of course you say she's physically attractive, but her qualities extend beyond the mere physical things. You say love her as a person And instead of saying that you said that IN SPITE of her body you like her.

NTA. There is a lot of pressure from society to fall into the traditional nuclear family. A family structure that has been propagandized to be the pinnacle of achievements and happiness. I think most reality contradicts. But either way, people are pressuring you, and it's not even coming from them. It's coming from all sorts of things they have been taught their entire lives and the weight of tradition is just being put on you. If you decide it's not for you, that's fine. And you're entirely fine to change your mind on this in the future. Live your life how you want.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/AmItheAsshole on March 9, 2019 08:53:12

NAH. You don't have to be with anyone ever, for any reason, ever. Sometimes people feel the need to be "justified" in breaking up. If this a big deal to you, then of course you can break up. Part of the question is would it be foolish for you to be in a relationship with this person? The answer is maybe, maybe not. The reality is that anyone can cheat given the right circumstances. It's not like breaking up with this person will garauntee you will never be cheated on. And the other thing to consider is that this person is being honest with you, and telling you what they did was wrong. They could have just as easily hid it from you. To me that tells me they are being sincere. I think you should talk to her. Be honest about your insecurities, what you want out of a relationship, and how the two of you together can overcome a barrier to trusting each other. Is this a relationship you want to pursue? Nobody here can answer you. I do think that there are a lot of people here who demand perfection from partners, even in their past. I don't think that's a particularly healthy way to find partners. Nobody is going to be the perfect person, and looking for that means you can throw away really great relationships away for things you might not even really care about. Ultimately, I can't answer the question whether you should break up. I'll put down some questions you might want to ask yourself, that might guide you towards an answer: \* Can I see myself with this person? \* Can I trust this person? \* Is this person willing to work with me working through this? \* Do I actually care about their past?

Tell the other person being cheated on, because they deserve to know. But focus on moving on instead of this festering and dwelling attitude. The commentors advocating scorched earth are only advocating prolonging contact and your oen misery.

Yea that's good. Something that might give some perspective is to remember women carry a lot of the social repercussions of sexual relations. It's not just that you used a slur against women. Your girlfriend might be concerned about what your views of sex are. If she declines sex, how are you gonna respond? Are you gonna tell other people that she's a slut if things go sour in the relationship? Most likely the answer is no. But your girlfriend might be feeling a bit guarded. The fact that you apologized is good. I don't know if further discussion would be of any benefit.

It's important to remember the new person you're interacting with isn't real. It is a facade and underneath that you don't know whats going on. Over thr course of a relationship that veneer is exposed and you start to see the other person in their entirety. Their good parts and their bad, their pros and their cons. When someone comes along and who they are fronting as seems perfect, it can be easy to think that they are perfect for you. They don't have any flaws. Or t least they don't have the same flaws as your current partner. And aren't you sick of how your partner does that really annoying thing The reality is that this other person is gonna have different things you will hate. And the things that makes you feel special with your current partner aren't done by the new person. What this comes down to is tht fantasy is better than reality. Reality is messy and confusing, and full of contradictory things. You know your partner as a real person, this other guy is mostly the best presentation of himself coupled with your imagination filling in the gaps. Think about your current relationship. What more do you want from it. Is there something else you need. Go talk to your husband. Go on a trip you wouldn't normally take. Do something new with your husband.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/relationship_advice on February 19, 2019 15:27:58

The courts aren't there to ensure that your marriage is a fairy tale, and punishment for those who break the happily ever after. A marriage is a legal contract over the sharing of property, and other legal rights. A divorce is there to distribute the property in equitable ways according to standard metrics. If you do not like those metrics, get a prenuptial agreement. People acting like infidelity has any baring on the property accumulated during a marriage is forfeited are ridiculous. Marriage is one of the most legally significant things you can do. Grow and realize that the legal system is not there to ensure your heart isn't broken.

A plot hole is not just saying the characters could have done something else. A plot hole is when the story directly contradicts itself. Like a character is murdered and then comes back. Or basically any inconsistency that defies the internal logic of the story. If stories were just about hyper competent, super rational characters doing everything perfectly most of the time you wouldn't have a story at all.

With such a short amount of time, maximizing your plans could mean that you end up missing out something you actually wanted more than anything else. I think the better approach is to get a list of 1 or 2 table or quick service you have to hit, and 2 or 3 snacks things that you absolutely have to eat. And schedule and prioritize those things. So many people make the mistake of trying to plan everything and then the schedule doesn't work out and they miss the thing they were looking forward to the most. You're gonna miss out on stuff. That's a given. So rather than trying to overstuff your schedule and missing out when something doesn't work, limit your priorities and ensure you get that stuff. It will mean that you won't have severe FOMO because you would have hit what you planned for.

He might have a lot of connections, put in impressive applications, got great letters of recommendation, or just plain aces interviews. If you're approaching a problem in your life with the mentality that things are stacked against you, instead of trying to figure out how you can improve to get what you want you'll never do nothing other than whine on the internet. Even if you were right and it's all diversity hires (it's not). What the hell are you gonna do about it? Call them up and lambast them? Sue them? The hiring process is very unfair and many times arbitrary. Focus on your grades, projects, and applications. Stop worrying if other students are undeservedly successful.

Some people also do the matching shirts just in case as well. Others recommended Tile which is great. Also, most kids seem to realize how busy it is. Plus they are unfamiliar with the location and are less willing to trample off.

So capital is allowed to amalgamate its interests into coporations but if workers do the same thing its an obstacle. Nice double standard there bud.

Lots of trades go from job to job as well. It allows standardization of benefits and wages to the benefit of workers. It also stops corporatations from changing benefits from underneath you without any say from you. I'm actually dealing with this right now. Corporate just changed our vacation time from VIP to alloted time buckets. As well as increasing the cost to our health benefits. This isn't a big deal for me as I'm Canadian based, but to the American offices it represents a net wage decrease of $100-$500 depending on the plan. There are other changes, but it makes sense to want to have an active role in your compensation.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/cscareerquestions on January 16, 2019 07:51:08

Some good points. But I think there needs to be some consideration of the fact that wages have been conspired to be brought down - ie google/apple lawsuit froma few years back. There's also things like legal exemption from overtime, which is ridiculous. Then there are the political ramifications of unionizing. Such as being able to lobby the government in the interest of software workers. Which can include things like fighting for net neutrality. Also, the points raised in counter of a software union are purely from a software engineer craft union. I would argue that would be a mistake to organize in that fashion. A tech industrial union would be a more effective strategy, as that could also integrate call center workers/it/etc into the struggle. The engineers at the top probably would only get marginal economic benefit, but would increase their political clout. But many workers would benefit economically. Tl;dr a purely economist understanding of unions isn't sufficient to organize software engineers

I'm sure a theft is possible. I left my stroller there no problem. I haven't even read about thefts in the dis board. If you're hyper concerned with theft renting a stroller from Disney would be a better solution than a lock imo.

Commented by /u/BelieveInPixieDust in /r/disney on January 15, 2019 21:35:37

Yea, just make sure you have some clear identifying features on the stroller. Strollers can be moved around. A generic black or tan stroller can be hard to find in the sea of strollers. A balloon is not a great idea, because those are sometimes taken by kids.

Your stroller won't be stolen. It'll be fine

I do a lot of work in production support. Normally what I do is just step through the code in the simplest case I can. Don't try and grasp a whole blob of code. You need to go through it slowly, line by line. As if you were reading. If you a given this on paper, get a second sheet of paper and write down variable names and their values. As they change cross them out and update their value. If you are given it on an IDE then just step through it using the debugger. The biggest tip i can say is move through it slowly and understand what is happening each step of the way

Allegedly, it was for patient safety. In actuality, it was because my boss was a neurotic and controlling asshole. I can say this with some degree of confidence because we were the only team in the entire company that required that.

When I worked for a browser based healthcare company, i did have to justify all CSS changes with the specification in a meeting. Having done that I can say with a degree of confidance that nobody really understands CSS and all the interactions that tags have and how each browser decides to interpret things.

It really depends on what you're looking for. There's all the resort dining options. Sanaa is great at AKL. There's all the restaurants in Disney Springs. What kind of restaurant are you looking for? Character meal? Fancy dinner? Casual? Quick service?

Slinky dog gets crazy right off the bat. Honestly, it's okay to skip it entirely. And hit ToT and RnR at 9. If you want to Rush to TSL (which is way in the back too) you definitely can, the lines will be shortest at 9. Seven Dwarves was a 2 hour wait at 9am last week. But generally everyone rushes to that or Peter Pan if you don't have a fast pass to either one. BOG is a good restaurant, the theming is excellent the food is okay to good. There's no pre-order option for it. You can generally snag a reservation the night before. It's quick service for lunch, and a prix fixe menu at dinner. Give yourself an hour if you want a good spot for the fireworks. For Epcot Soarin' and Test Track should be done in the morning. Test Track has a single rider line if you're willing to get your group split up. Fireworks is in the lake so lots of viewing locations. As far as Fast Passes, you get 3 to pre-plan, then you can keep making one additional fast pass at a time. You can book the next additional fast pass after you have used all them or change the fast pass you made. If you do not use the fast pass you lose it.

Wdwprepschool is a good resource to begin. Generally the christmas/new years holidays are really bad for crowds. A travel agent is a great resource. Staying on property means you don't have to pay for transportation and you can spend more time in the parks without having to account for travel.

Just to clarify, you have to go through customs in the airport at those locations. It is not optional.

Neither of those numbers are publically available knowledge. But if you watch videos on youtube about the After Hours events, you can basically walk on to every ride.

You pick up your magic bands at the hotel in check-in. If you get them customized on the MDE website, they'll send you a notification telling you they'll be there. As far as the luggage tags go, we flew Toronto so we did customs/immigration in the airport. If you fly from an airport where that is not provided, you will have to pick up your luggage first. They will have space for you to put your bags in the Magical Express bus. Even then I have read some issues with passengers from Toronto and the luggage not being picked up if you fly direct. Give Disney a call and let them know that your bags will be ready to be picked up at the carrousel if you fly direct from Canada and will be going through customs prior to boarding.

It's also important to note if you do the planning of fast passes, dining reservations, etc most of the crowds are manageable. So go early. Except christmas week to new years. That's when it's insane and don't go.

Yea I think so. I'm really just looking for more creative work. I'm not 100% convinced that's what I want because I don't really have any experience in it lol. Everything I've ever done has been 95% back-end work. With the 5% being reporting user facing data reporting issues.

Thank you very much for the insights :) >CS at Disney is mostly moving data around, like their picture services, guest tracking data, websites, etc. I must admit I’m not familiar with the tech they use on the movies side of things. Sounds very similar to the work I'm doing now. Movies don't interest me as much tbh. It really is the themed entertainment, interactive displays, and rides that interest me. It doesn't HAVE to be Disney (altho I will admit I am a total fanboi lol). I would be happy building these kind of interactive displays and entertainment for museums, zoos, aquariums, stadiums, or other attractions. Just don't how to go about it. There are some themed entertainment design program but they do not appear to be very technical and they are only in the states (I'm residing in Canada right now - I'm a dual citizen tho). I dropped out of University after 2 years to work full time on tech. I'm scared of starting an entirely different field and not knowing if I have anything to fall back on. So I would like leverage my existing skills rather than starting from scratch. I'm sure I'm comin off as very wishy-washy. I just don't know where to go forward with my career and I've been feeling depressed because I just been doing the same thing for almost 4 years with no real plan. Not that I expect anyone else here to provide me those answers lol. Feels good to be able to talk about it with other people who understand what it's like to be a software dev!

I'm feeling kind of stuck. I have a kid so I don't have much time to improve my skills outside of work. My work is pretty much the same thing over and over again. So I'm not growing there. I don't have a degree. I have about five years work experience. I'm thinking of going back to school for a degree. My ultimate dream would be to work for Disney (or other themed entertainment but Disney is my favorite) helping design and work on rides (I know, get in line right?). What degree would be best for that? Would CS be the best or would some form of engineering maybe? Are there other skills that I should look into? Thanks for reading :)

We did the Early Morning Magic at TSL. The only thing we had to wait for was the 10 minute line to meet Jessie and Woody. Everything else we rode 3-4 times each with walk-on. You do feel a bit rushed to do everything, but it was worth it for my family. If you want to meet Woody and Jessie, get your reservation for 7am. And try to be there for that. It'll also give you an opportunity to get pictures with literally no-one else in them. Also, the breakfast is available until 10. Go to it at 9:30am. Do all the rides you can during the TSL event and when the park opens at 9 get on a very short line for ToT or RnR. Then go eat breakfast.
