From the frontend it might be easier developing against a graphql api, but because the client defines the data to return, single queries could span across multiple apis. The client has more control, but must also be aware of the inner workings so they don't make inefficient queries. From the backend, GraphQL doesn't magically know how to fetch all your data. Someone still has to write all the code to resolve the queries.

I'm using Linux on the X1 Carbon Gen 7. It works great! It's amazing for everything you mentioned *except* gaming. It will probably run your games, but the frame rates are not great. So "light gaming" as you say, is probably fine. I play Minecraft (which works pretty well) and have started playing Tombraider (the 2013 version, for which i have to set the graphics to low and reduce the resolution to make it playable). CS:GO (also on low graphic) used to work, but since a recent update does not even start (but this is likely not related to the Laptop, but more to the state of linux gaming..)

Yep! You typically want your design to be as efficient as possible. In this case you can reduce your voltage and your resistor as long as you have enough voltage to overcome Vf and enough current for your LED.

You want enough voltage to overcome the forward voltage drop of the LED, as well as a big enough resistor to limit the current through the LED. Lets say your LED has a Vf (forward v drop) of 0.6V and your LED is at optimal efficiency at 20mA (check datasheet). You know that there will be a 0.6 drop over your LED so you have 6 - 0.6 voltage drop over your resistor. Then choose your resister to force the current to be 20mA. V= I*R R = V/I = 5.4/0.02 = 270 ohm Pick the closest you can get to that value. If you double the voltage to 12, you will have 11.4v drop over your resistor so you would need a bigger resistor to limit the current through the LED. Power used by resisor P = i*v 0.02 * 5.4 = 0.108W 0.02 * 11.4 = 0.228W By using the 12V battery, you are wasting more energy in your resistor

i'm using bumblebee to switch between intel and Nvidia proprietary (was not hard to set up) . It works, but I've found that performance on Windows is still better. I would recommend dual boot. Then you also have the advantage of using windows only software.
