Have a general idea of the source of the story. There are multiple media bias charts that exist that will give you an idea where they stand. Its also useful for looking at the same claim on multiple sites to try to find both sides of the issue. []( Check the facts with any one of a number of fact checking sites []( Usually thru that process you can get an idea of where the disagreement of truth is. The fact checking sites usually try to give you the basis for the claim and why it is false or partially false rather then just saying true/false. For example politician A claims B is against issue C, but you will find that B voted against C because it was part of some giant spending bill they didn't agree with but has voted for C three other times. There's usually some truth in most statements that is spun into the claim. If you don't trust the fact checking sites or they don't agree, look for actual documentation. Votes are public record as are the text of the bills so you could see the vote and what was included in the bill as an example.

I had fios, they gave me a new router with the setup but they ran the fiber into the house to connect to the new router. In my case they just followed the cable and phone lines into the house and then ran across a crawl space and thru the wall into the office. Places where there are existing holes and existing lines from the street are the likely place they would run it into the house. Just depends on the company how much they will be willing to run it to where you want once its in the house.

At least in computers, its not uncommon to store data in universal time and then convert to display in a particular timezone when having chronological records are important to the application.

They have to run a completely new wire to the house that is fiber and then terminate that somewhere. At that point you can plug in a wifi router and new install doesn't impact existing cable install assuming you are using wifi to connect all devices. Just a matter of switching each device one by one to the new wifi after it is running. It generally doesn't start becoming an issue unless you are trying to use existing internal wiring thru the house to get hard wired connections in multiple locations. In that case you likely would need to disconnect the internal wiring from the cable company (which means no cable tv on those wires).

It all depends on the specifics of the task. My insurance can process changes immediately, but when I had a claim, it was a matter of people reviewing the claim, calling and verifying information with me, the plumber, the restoration company, etc. They want to be sure they aren't being over charged. Similarly, if you want approval for medical treatment, maybe some day they will move more towards AI but they will have actual doctors review and determine if they approve or recommend some cheaper alternative first. Even if AI could do it, they want an actual doctor because if you had a bad outcome and sued, they'd be in court saying AI said to do it and an expert witness doctor would say its wrong and they'd lose. There are also a lot of old legacy processes that still exist that often involve a batch process that run once a day or in some cases once a week or month. There are still a bunch of old cobol programs out there that have been performing the same process since the 1960s and 1970s. Those processes could be rebuilt to be more instantanious but one has to presume the cost must exceed the benifit since they have just continued to maintain those old programs.

Functioning AI is something that would clearly have thousands of uses and will likely be world changing because it can potentially replace people in many areas. Metaverse has no obvious value, particularly as a business tool. Not saying it might not catch on and be fun at the scale of existing social media, but thats the best imaginable outcome.

Reversing the code and then completely analyzing it takes a ton of time, though that is what some hackers do to find flaws. There are static code analysis tools that can help with the process. However, the concerns over TikTok are beyond the application itself. Like all other free services they are gathering info. Its not hidden. They've agreed to even store the data in the US. The issue becomes that if the Chinese government orders them to use that data, nothing in the app would prevent that because its already stored on the internet and is accessible to them. At least in theory, US based software companies won't just comply with data requests from the government without a warrent. Just because you can disassemble something and maybe make it somewhat readable, it could also be hard to find potential issues because they may not have code that directly does the evil deed. Imagine if they intentionally left a buffer overflow in the application and a specially crafted video or API call to their server could exploit it. If you don't find the overflow in the code then all the logic that does bad things is hidden in the data that exploits the overflow. Applications are always being updated, someone would have to reanalyze each update. Imagine in a time of war and they just push out an update that does bad things and everyone is using it before those bad things are discovered and damage is done.

I didn't think too much about its future. I was asked to set it up so we could send email to someone at a university. I talked to a guy at UofP. He had a diagram of the 200ish computers that comprised the internet at the time. We set up an arrangement where they would function as a SMTP relay for us. I then wrote code to have our VAX dial in every 15 minutes and exchange emails. Fast forward a bunch of years that the world wide web was invented. Our company dealt with a lot of people that were in academics and had access at work before most average people did, so I was asked to create a website. At that time, almost all the web was static html but I decided to figure out how we could use the web to perform some basic customer transactions. Over the next few years, it started to become obvious that it was a great opportunity to automate a ton of stuff and at least supplement our paper based processes. It was lots of fun to just be turned loose and left to figure out what and how to do things. We ran paper and web in parallel for many years and it seemed momentous to essentially start shutting down the paper base processes and require things be done online. The technology is so much better. Back then we used 300 then 1200 and 2400 baud dialups. Eventually 56K and then 256K dedicated lines and finally megabit and eventually gigabit. You can definitely do things that were unimaginable back then like streaming, online data replication for disaster recovery, etc.

The trend in job requirements as unemployment has been so low has been to eliminate the degree requirement. That could of course change in the future if there were ever to be a surplus of tech employees. Given a choice between someone with no experience and no degree or someone with a degree and no experience, it helps to have the degree. After the entry level/ first job, prior work experience becomes the driving factor. The trend has been to hire people with very specific skills over general skills.

Guys don't stand over the bowl and shoot straight down. And of course theres doing it in the dark in the middle of the night.

I'm in no way defending Russia. I would love for Ukraine to push them completely out of their borders, but the reality is Ukraine will fight as long as they feel they can make progress and Russia will fight until they feel everything is going to collapse. Some wars end with total victory but many wars end when one or both sides recognize the cost to continue to fight is more then what they can possibly achieve. If Ukraine feels they are losing soldiers faster then they can replaced and feel the west cutting back on support or reach a point where they have no hope of progress or possibly start losing lots of ground, they will negotiate without pushing Russia from their borders. Its not what anyone wants but its often how wars end.

It depends on the nature of the tax such as increasing tax rates vs a wealth tax and the size of the tax. A little tax, they probably mostly suck it up and just try to find loopholes and pay more. As much as people complain, as long as they are still making a decent amount of money, more then they could make thru alternatives, they will continue to take the risks associated with investing and starting businesses in the US. At some point if it becomes too large, they could decide to stop investing and move their wealth and themselves off shore. At the most extreme you could cause a huge sell off in the stock market, essentially making their wealth disappear along with the savings of lots of people who have retirement accounts in the market. Killing investment would eventually slow growth of US companies, loss of jobs, and foreign companies become dominant. The tax benifit could be more then offset by the value drops. Potentially the US government go into default because they would no longer have the worlds strongest economy backing their 31 trillion debt. Anarchy, maybe. Think of Russia after the USSR collapsed, but without the US stepping in to keep things from getting out of control. Everything is a system and if you tinker with one part of the system there is always impacts on other parts. Often there are tipping points beyond which you go from slowing the rate of growth to decline and then accelerating the rate of decline.

Its just not enough. I was on Frank Sinatra last Feb when they shut the strip down for the rock and roll marathon. An hour and a half to go from around the luxor to Caesars. They might be able to make it practical by adding a major road in place or above Frank and another in place of Koval and overpasses for all the cross streets, but that would be difficult and expensive.

No, you need someone to have a genetic mutation that allows them to fly, then that has to have some advantage to the human race that allows them to survive better. In the animal world, that might help in getting food but for humans, not so much unless suddenly people just find it attractive and start preferring to reproduce with those who can fly.

You can still pick up digital tv signals for free. Thats the old fashion way people got tv before satellite and streaming and cable. Most new tv's have digital tuners and adding an antena will help you catch weak signals. Depends on where you live. Where I am there are probably 20ish channels. Usually all the local tv stations broadcast digital and then there are a few other stations. There are also piles of free streaming options like tubi, pluto, etc. Generally speaking, cable cost more then satellite after you buy the equipment and satellite costs more then streaming. My cable tv bill is 184/month and I don't even get things like HBO.

Some yes, most, probably no. I would describe it more as the degree to which people have a plan for things and are doing things intentionally vs people who mostly are reacting as opportunities or problems arise. I'm retired and I had a plan for that for decades and there is a backup plan and a 2nd and 3rd backup plan in case there are economic emergencies. Almost everything I've done in life was very intentional and thought out. There were always backup plans. Yet, you can't plan for everything. Sometimes good things you never imagined come along and other times things you thought would never happen do. A more together person has things in order so when something unexpected happens they stand a better chance of dealing with it without it causing everything else to come crashing down like a house of cards.

Area 51 is secure and they don't have a wall. If you have patrols and sensors and drones etc. and an intention to not let anyone get in, its going to be way more effective then a wall in the middle of the desert. Walls make sense in populated areas where there are border agents in the area and slowing someone down gives enough time for the agent to get to them before they disappear into a city/town on the other side.

Its cheaper to build your own PC vs buying a gaming PC. As for consoles, they often sell them at a loss in order to lock in the income from game sales so they can be more economical. As for parts, have you checked recently. With the crash of crypto, GPUs have gone from hard to find to excess inventory. Pretty sure most of the other computer chip shortages have also cleared up except if you are talking about a specific CPU model that is just released which are often in shortage right after launch.

When you start, they should have you fill out the w4, thats a good time to have a conversation and just say that in the past they didn't take taxes out and can you take x percent in taxes. If you don't have that conversation when you start and you get your first pay and its zero taxes, talk to them then. If the company is big enough that there is a payroll dept, those are the people to talk to, smaller companies where you work with the owner, talk to them or your direct supervisor and they should be able to tell you who to talk to. The trick is that then it becomes up to you to figure out how much you want them to take out. If your hours are inconsistent then your yearly income each year has probably been inconsistent. Maybe look at the top year or two in terms of income and base it off the years you got the most hours/pay and figure out what percent taxes you paid and have them take that percentage. An example below as to how to come up with the percentage. Keep in mind if you work less/earn less then you would get a refund and if you work more/earn more then your best past year, you might still end up owning but it won't be anywhere as bad as taking zero out and then you can just ask them to increase it the withholdings the next year. ^(A Income 30000 Sum of income from W2s for that year) ^(B Tax taken out in pay 3000 Sum of withholdings from W2 for that year) ^(C Additional taxes owed at tax time 2000 The additonal amount you had to pay when you filled out your taxes) ^(D Total taxes 5000 add B and C) ^(E Percentage to take out 16.67% D times 100 divided by A)

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 30, 2023 16:21:21

That would explain it. They almost have to guess what your income is and likely some went low and others went high estimating your hours. I'd just talk to them about it and ask them to take more if you keep owing taxes.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 30, 2023 15:53:31

Assuming the pay for the job is consistent so they can know how much you would make per year, they should be computing the withholdings. Some jobs, like if you work random hours or put in a pile of overtime, they won't know that up front and will base it off a normal work week without overtime which would be lower and possibly zero depending on what your income is. Assuming your normal income is high enough that you actually owe taxes and you keep ending up owning taxes each year, you might ask the company about it. I use to just tell my company the amount I wanted taken out because of things like other income from interest which can throw your taxes off.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 30, 2023 15:46:02

Your job should be making you fill out a W4 form. The purpose is to have your taxes taken out be what you should end up owing at the end of the year. Of course thats all estimated. If you don't work regular hours, you may only be guessing at how much you would make per year and if you have regular hours they can compute it based on the formulas the governement provides. You can claim other income or deductions on the W4 to adjust the tax amount up or down. If you try to game things and get them to take zero out and then you end up owning, they give you a pass once and if you do it again then you are required to fill out quarterly income taxes 4 times a year.

Well a gigabyte is a billion bytes so 1.5 billion parameters isn't going to use some insane amount of memory. ChatGPT used 10,000 NVidia GPUs to train the model but NVidia made over 50 million GPUs in 2021. Gaming has died down post-covid, crypto mining as collapsed leaving GPU demand low. Supply shortages in high end chips has been replaced by excess inventory. And thats just to train the model. Once its trained, it can run on a fairly normal system. GPT-3 requires NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPU or newer with at least 8 GB of GPU memory and at least 16 GB of system memory. It is true that they are reaching the limits in making traditional processors smaller, but then again IBM said they had a CPU that used light and runs a thousand times faster. There's also the ability to network computers together and distribute the work so probably no need for each instance to hold all the knowledge locally if it grows to exceed what could be handled by someones individual machine.

I think the most productive thing would be to try to start to figure out why you are not getting hired. Do you have a useless degree or one in a field where there is demand. Do you live in a location where the type of job you have isn't in demand but moving to a different location would allow you to get hired. Have you talked to the recruiter to get feedback on your resume, feedback on any jobs you interviewed for and didn't get hired, etc. Feedback from the recruiter on changes to resume. Options for practice interviews to figure out what you might say differently to get selected. Are there things you can do to get more experience on the resume by say volunteering in something related to your area of expertese.

Yes, given the differences from languages I already knew it was easy to learn quickly. For example: Pascal: var i integer; begin for i:= 1 to 10 do writeln(i); end. C: int i; for (i=1; i<=10; i++) printf("%d",i); Declaration of variables is the same concept as are the basic types. The concept of a loop is the same, the syntax of the for loop in C doesn't assume increment by 1 and introduces new operators such as ++ (increment by one after using the value) and the printf intoduces a formatting of the output, but basically very very similar. There was a few days between purchasing the textbook and classes starting so plenty of time to read thru and note the differences from what you already know. Keep in mind classes were 3 days a week so there was time to prepare lessons between classes and firm up knowledge for each section. When you teach you are basically going to follow the chapters in the textbook and are essentially talking the students thru the material and be prepared to answer questions on each section as you go thru it. If you look at modern languages such as C# where they've added a lot to the language itself and then piled all of the .net objects and methods that the language can use, there is a lot to absorb but earlier languages weren't as extensive.

Once you learn one programming language, the syntax might be different and they might introduce a few new concepts, but there isn't a huge difference, especially when you are in the same general generation of language. At that point in time, I was very proficient in pascal and had also worked in many other procedural languages including basic, so at least 95% of the differences between the languages was the syntax. I loved programming so I'd just read the entire textbook in a day or so and then start working hands on.

Assuming you install all the fixes to those flaws or let your system automatically update, the odds are actually pretty small you would get hacked. In the case you are referring, they were probably more interested in just getting you to sign up for the porn/dating site. Sending someone something that is misleading is a lot easier then sending them a link to a site that launches a hack that hasn't been fixed yet.

The amount you owe in taxes is what you owe. The only difference is if you miss taking something like a deduction that you could have taken. Their software steps you thru things so if you have the patients and don't screw up anyway they will help you find things. Note, most people with simple returns don't qualify for anything fancy they might miss. As for not having taxes taken out, you get like one shot at that and then they make you fill out quarterly taxes unless its some tiny amount.

Well, I started in High school around 1978. There was no internet or tutorials or even a teacher that knew how to program. There was a book with all the commands (basic), so I just started trying to build things. Later, I bought a book on z80 assembler, wrote a basic code that allowed entry in decimal and saved the data to tape and another basic program that would read the data and save it to memory and execute the code when finished loading. Hired as a programmer for a guy who owned a bunch of businesses before I could drive. After that, went to College and took classes but really I just learned by reading the textbook the day I purchased the book. Picked up a pile of languages. Did a 5 year work/study program where you get an internship job half the year for the middle 3 years. Probably around my 3rd year, they asked me to teach a class in C, so I read the book a few days before classes started. So really, self study and spending huge amounts of time trying things and learning from my mistakes.

Without reviewing your returns, its kind of hard to say if you made a mistake or something. You could compare your 2022 returns to your 2021 return and see if any line items are different. They did eliminate/reduce some things that were covid related such as child tax credits. Could be you made more this year, US tax structure is the more you make not only do you pay more as a percentage but the percentages increase. Could be your employer withheld less each pay. Could be if you are getting health care payments applied monthly to your bill that in previous years were not paid during the year and got applied to your income tax. Could be in previous years you didn't collect the covid stimulus and then got it applied to your income tax.

Funny, I just finished watching a long video about how horrible all the suburban malls in America are and how you need a car to get there. My reaction was that many people like the suburban life and have cars and don't mind driving somewhere to shop. There are some attempts to build things that are half way between urban and suburban with mix of business, housing, restaraunts and recreation. America is pretty capitalistic, if there is a demand for it, they will build it. Zoning always allows for exceptions and if a developer proposes something they will often accomodate. There are at least several attempts going on in the county where I live. [](

Back east, not many HOAs. When I moved to Vegas, vast majority of decent housing is in HOAs so I sucked it up and have a HOA.

When you buy your house you sign an agreement that you will follow the rules or subject yourself to fines. Part of the agreement is when you sell the house it must be to someone who agrees to sign that agreement. Hence, you are trapped and if you don't pay the fines they can put a lien on your house etc.

Russia has a total of one aircraft carrier. Its in maintenance, its been in maintenance since 2017 and is expected to remain in maintenance until 2024. When this marvel of technology does manage to sail, it is always accompanied by other boats who can tow it back to port because usually it breaks down as soon as they try to use it. Then you would need Ukraine to be flying over or near the black sea and you would need Turkey to allow their aircraft carrier to go into the black sea.

The cops should eventually be able to get you the drivers and the car owners information. Your insurance company will certainly end up tracking that down in their process. Don't worry too much about the driver, its the car owner whose insurance has to pay. You should check your insurance to see if you have uninsured/underinsured coverage. It would cover you if the drivers SO doesn't have insurance, but has a different deductable then your normal insurance. Beyond that, you might end up having to take the driver and their SO to court. Lawyers will work without a fee but will end up taking a good chunk of the winnings. If there are injuries on your side, they'll be good at adding in pain/suffering/loss of work/ etc. to get the amount higher to offset their cost. However, they'll look at the driver and their SO and if they have no insurance and no assets like houses and money in the bank they might not be willing to take the case because it would be hard to get any money from someone who has no insurance and nothing of value. If all else fails you can take them to small claims yourself, armed with a police report and statements from your insurance company it would likely be an easy win. The down side to small claims is that they limit how much you can sue for, but better then nothing.

Memory is accessed by the cpu thru the memory controller using a memory address and is meant to temporarily hold information while the applications are running in the case of RAM and for more perminent code and data that needs to be available when booting up in ROMs. Memory addressing is fundamentally built into the instruction set of the CPU. Storage is meant to keep information longer term and is accessed via various device interfaces such as PCI, IDE, etc. and has a more complicated protocol for addressing.

Russia always has the choice to pack up, go home, and stop killing their neighbors. Even the russians who are dying, ultimately its their choice to be there. They choose killing others over leaving their country, overthrowing their goverment or going to jail. If there is one thing that is worse then a year that has gone on for a year is one that goes on for the next 5. At some point its better to step up the effort and get it over with.

WARP is similar to a VPN. All of your traffic is encrypted and goes thru the cloudflare systems before being routed to their final destination. DNSCrypt only encrypts your dns requests and uses encrypted dns servers instead of normal DNS servers that aren't encrypted. All of your other trafffic goes directly from your computer to their destination. If you surf the web, most sites today use https and are therefore already encrypted, however your dns lookup wasn't so people could monitor your traffic and know what web sites you were going to. If you have a dns issue such as your computer is configured to use a dns server that no longer exists or is faulty, using dnscript fixes the problem because now you are using a different dns server and bypassing the one that is problematic. Typically computers are set to get the dns server info from their ISP automatically. If you didn't want to use dnscrypt and are having issues with your ISP dns, you would you could try setting your dns server to static address and use []( and []( as a secondary as these are dns servers run by google.

I'd be a little cautious about doing it that way. At home proctored exams usually begins with them instructing you to take the webcam and show them the testing area looking for people, devices, etc. Any device you are using needs to not be visible. Also keep in mind that its pretty trivial for them to give the test questions in random order. If its a higher stakes exam, they may have multiple forms of the exam so each test taker is not taking the exact same exam. Similarly, if they are using adaptive testing, you are being given questions from a test pool so you wouldn't necessarily see the same test as someone else.

Its a mix bag. There is an aggregate answer when you combine all businesses and all people but in reality the results of individuals and specific companies varied greatly. The power of the dollar has gone down because prices have gone up so a dollar buys less. War in ukraine sent gas/oil and food prices skyrocketing which drove up the price of everything else since most things need to ship. So if you are a gas/oil company you saw crazy profits but if you are a trucking company you raised your price to match the expense of higher gas/oil. Housing shortage leads to higher rent and home costs because more people need housing then is available. Landlords make more. Home builders make more but their costs also went up. Theres also a labor shortage. Some businesses raised pay to get the workers. So for those workers in those companies their dollar buys less but they have more dollars. On the other hand lots of businesses, particularly small businesses, can't afford to pay more because the cost of their products to them have gone up, the cost of shipping has gone up, their rent has gone up, etc. and even after raising prices they just don't have the profits to pay as much as their larger competitors. Hence they are short staffed and those businesses are making less not more. At least for large companies that are part of the stock market, when averaged together, saw record profits in 2022 while also seeing a 20% drop in the value of the stock. So if you are a shareholder you actually lost a lot. If that seems weird, its because stock prices usually lead the economic changes. You can end up in a situation where wealth is being destroyed. One thing lots of people overlook is that wealth and cash are two different things. The price of stocks are based on supply and demand of the stock which isn't always related to the profits. If more people want to sell then buy because they think bussiness will slow next year, the price goes down. Most wealthy people have their wealth tied up in stocks so some of their wealth just disappears as the price drops.

You really can't. Your ISP can record sites you go to, google or bing etc. can record your searches, the sites you go to like reddit can keep your history of which subs/comments/posts you've made. The good news is some of them like google have data retention policies (eg wipe searches after 18 months) and offer options within your user profile to delete data. Other companies may elect to retain your data forever. Many sites will tell you about their data retention policy, but the internet is a big place and if you visited some kinky website they likely aren't going to have an option to wipe things and you probably can't remember every site you visited. So some history will always exist. On the other hand, unless you are an international terrorist, no one is going to have much interest in uncovering that data.

You would open an account with a company like vanguard yourself unless your employer has a retirement plan you can put money into. You open it up like you would a bank account except typically you just do it all over the web instead of going to a bank. Specific best advice depends on your future financial needs and what you are saving for. For example, the stock market goes up and down, if you think you would need to access the money quickly at different times during your life, you can lose money because the market could be down at the time you need the cash and you can't wait. You should always have an emergency fund in the bank for quick access. Just find a high yield savings for the emergency fund. If you think its money you are going to be accessing periodically but not needed immediately like an emergency fund, you can put it in something that doesn't require a long wait before accessing. At least right now with interest rates up, you might just get some CDs from someplace like discover bank online and spread them out over time so that you will always have one coming available soon. If you are saving for retirement, historically nothing is better then the stock market. At least to start, just put it in a s&p500 index fund and add to it when you can. As you accumulate more, you can look for some higher yield higher risk things to add to the mix. For certain, if your employer has a 401k with a match, thats where you should start if you are saving for retirement because a match means they are putting money in to match what you are putting in which is an instant 100% return. You would do that thru your employer. If your company doesn't have a retirement, put the money in a Roth IRA. Roth IRAs you don't have to pay taxes which makes them one of the best options. Employer funds, even without the match, are also good because you defer paying taxes until you retire and take the money out. That can mean earning money on an extra 20% or more depending on your income level.

Experience and knowledge aren't exactly the same. Take your computer skills, you might not know much about windows 11, but your experience will tell you to reboot the computer if it seems locked up or check the keyboard is plugged in if nothing happens when you type. Someone who learned all about windows 11 in class and has never expernienced an unplugged keyboard might not figure out the issue. Theres some value to being able to take what has happened in the past, recognize a pattern and find a way to apply that past experience to a new situation. Ideally you want someone with both knowledge and expernence and optimally not just general experience but experience with the particular thing.

Legally your age is when you were born. Physically, the age of your body is 7 years because its existed for 7 years. My car is 4 years old, it was never born, its just existed for 4 years. Obviously the growth and decay processes were suspended so the end of your life is going to be relative to when you were unfrozen. Alaskan wood frogs freeze seven months a year. No one would say a 6 year old frog is only 3 because it was frozen half the time.

They were conceived at the same time so when they were officially born doesn't really change my actual age. If my mom had a CSection a month before I was born, I'd have a different birthday but physically the age of my body didn't change.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 21, 2023 17:54:05

Not necessarily. Average is different then the same each year. If you have less then 4% returns early and greater then 4% later, the average might be 4% but you lose money. For example, if you start out with 1000 dollars and get 2% return for 10 years and then 6% return for 10 years you've averaged 4% but your ending balance is 976. If you reverse that and earn 6% in the first 10 years and 2% in the last 10 years you still average 4% and end up with 1016 at the end. Stock markets can have negative years, so a few big negatives in the beginning can be pretty harmeful even if they are offset by big gains later that average out to above 4%. Also, you need a lot to begin with to be able to maintain the discipline of only withdrawing 4% per year. Last year the s&p was down about 20% and inflation went up 6.5%. So you would be taking 20% less in 2022 then you did in 2021 while facing higher prices.

Once you are old investing has little value. Investments grow by compounding which can be huge over a long time. Think of doubling your money every 7 years. Double 6000 to 12000 isn't a big deal but if its already grown to a half million, doubling is another half million.

There would be one (or possibly more) points where you can plug in the modem and then run a wire from the modem to the router. You can either have long eithernet cable between modem and router or between router and your system or a long coax cable from the plug to the modem. Its just a question of if the wire is in the way or if you can snake it around so you don't have to step over it. Presumably your apartment won't be too big but placement of the router for good wifi coverage might play into your planned equipment placement. Best to have the router as centralized and not blocked by walls or big metal things like the fridge.

Try local churches, sometimes they will help people out with food. You could dumpster dive. You could stand by the side of the road with a sign asking for money. I know people who intentionally don't get a job because they make more money that way. Go door to door trying to pick up some simple work like shovelling snow. Take items to the pawn shop and pawn or sell them there. payday loan, though thats not a great idea given the high interest rates. Ask employer for a pay advance. Put up a sign at work saying you are having a charity food drive and then make yourself the charity. Longer term, sign up for food stamps or other public assistance.

But seriously, its pretty extremely unlikely your parents have the skills to intercept the traffic and decrypt the https encrypted pornhub traffic. Typical home wifi doesn't come with the tools to intercept the data.

You can purchase fractional shares with some brokers not to mention over time each week you could put some in different stocks so it still doesn't seem like you are getting more diversity then you could get if you did it individually. If they are going to build their own mutual fund, that sounds even worse because now they have to collectively agree on which stocks to purchase. It would be better to be in a club that meets and talks about stocks but be able to retain your ability to follow the group recommendation or diverge when you disagree.

I cant see any advantage to that. If you collectively have several million, you'd individually have several 10K. So individually you'd have the same amount as if you individually invested. All you would accomplish would be to constrain yourself as to what investments to choose and when to get in/out of the market.

Living in a free society is all about balancing laws with freedom. Pedestrian hit by 30mph car, you are dead. You could drop that down to 5mph or ban cars all together and be even more effective. In a free society people can choose to get in a car and risk their life or get in a bus or on a subway and be less likely to die. They can work remotely and pick a place to live where they don't have to even cross a street to get to the market and be even safer. So slower = less accidents is definitely true. Worth doing? Thats where the law has to be balanced against people who have to drive long distances and don't have hours per day to do that. We have a trucker shortage already. Imagine if we cut driving speeds from 60 to 20, you'd need 3 times the number of truckers to move the same amount of goods in the same amount of time.

I read about some IBM hardware that uses light and runs at 1000x the speed of modern CPUs. Existing technology is using silicon at around 20 molecules in width. Theres a limit to how small you can get and pumping up the clock adds heat which you can only go so far with cooling.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 19, 2023 01:23:22

Dispite the talks of physical controls, at some point they build modern CPUs that run machine code. You can think of machine code as a binary value that represents a unique instruction often followed by some value or values. An example would be things like an instruction to load a particular memory location into register A. Writing code in machine code was time consuming. You'd have a table of all the instructions and what values they'd expect and you would create the instructions and load them into the computer. Writing binary wasn't much fun so someone wrote simple programs that took hex (or decimal in my case) coding and translated them into binary and that allowed the programmer to step and enter information in a little less complicated fashion. Then they began to write assembly language. Of course they used machine code to write a program that would translate assembly to machine code. It was easer for humans to deal with because they would enter things like LDA 123 which means load register A with the value in memory location 123. These were direct translations between things humans could understand and the underlying hardware instructions. So there was a time when most operating systems and other tools were written using assembler. Eventually higher level language like C were developed where there was less of a direct matching between the language elements and the actual instructions in the hardware. Note that once you start having some parts of higher level languages, you can use a compiler to write a new compiler or rewrite the original compiler in itself and then add new features. That allows you to enhance languages and build new languages. Eventually all that original low level code gets rewritten in higher level langages. As time passed languages have become more and more conceptual and separated from the underlying hardware instructions.

Maybe give yourself a timeout at the moment you are about to act and then relax and focus and start to think. Recognize the moment you are reacting and step back and give yourself time so the thinking kicks in.

As an example, prices of houses are up, thats called inflation. If the bank raises interest rates on mortgages, then the price of the house becomes even more expensive and unafordable for most people. Sales of houses decrease dramatically. People selling houses lower the price because some of those people need to sell for reasons such as they are moving and they can't wait to sell later when demand goes up. So they lower the price. Thats deflation which is the opposite of inflation. The prices for houses go down not up.

Not a minecraft user so I can't answer that one exactly. It all depends on the tools and language. For example, there is a language called javascript that is built into every web browser. You could write a program in that language and then open the file in the broswe and it would run. There are tools called compilers and other tools called integrated developement environments (ide) that allow you to write code, compile it and run it. You can run it within the IDE for testing purposes but then depending on what you've created, you might have built a desktop application which once compiled could be put onto a computer and run. You could package it into an installer file that you could place on the web and someone would download that and install it on their computer and run. You could have built a website, those get uploaded to a webserver which is a program that would run the program and generally send the output of the program to the web browser of the person using the website.

When I post, I just expect that if its anything political and not liberal, even if I'm trying to be as neutral as possible, its going to be down voted. Ive often wondered if it would be good if downvoting had to be accompanied by a justification. If it were a comment it would probably lead to arguements but maybe pick a category like off topic or rant or i disagree and then disgard all the I disagee ones. I've started intentionally looking at downvoted comments and upvoting them if they have merit in the conversation and appear downvoted because of the point of view expressed.

I assume some of them are just driven to be sucessful and want to compare themselves to their peers. No idea why some of them don't treat workers well. Even more wierd is people like Bill Gates who now is retired and trying to find charitable uses for the money because he doesn't want to leave it to his kids and no longer is working to build that business. Also keep in mind that a lot of businesses are publicly traded companies and the CEO is an employee of the company. The business is owned by the shareholders and the CEO is judged on his job performance by how much profit he/she delivered to the shareholders. Some of the share holders are ultra rich but a bunch are everyday people who have retirement accounts. I would somewhat disagree that they are hoarding money. The ultra-rich don't keep piling cash up in their mansions. Yes, they have a bunch of nice houses and cars, etc, but most of their wealth is either the value of the business they own or things like stock shares in investments. Investments create and grow businesses and businesses create products for people and give jobs to people so it isn't a bad thing that most of their wealth is invested.

Some live in the tunnels, others live in the parks and on the streets and in the shelters. More people seem to drown in lake mead swimming then in floods. A few people die every year in the flood channels. Not all of them are homeless, sometimes they are kids that get to close or fall in accidently because only sections of the channels are tunnels. The numbers are small like one or two a year. It happens during the summer where we have a quick heavy storm move thru. There are only a handful of summer storms each year. Most of the year it doesn't rain or it just rains a little and the water in the flood channels isn't quickly filled in a light rain. Generally they try to get out before it rains. People who live down there know they need to get out before the storm and then come back afterwards.

There isn't any justification for racism, but most of the other items on the list it all depends on your perspective as to what is "bad" or "good". If you believe God gives babies souls at the moment of conception, you could see not aborting as not killing and thus good. If you don't believe fetus are people until birth then its not killing and thus not bad to abort and good to not force a baby on a woman. If the right seemingly are bad guys that means you probably have left wing perspectives on most issues. If you had right wing perspective then you would see those as good. As for what makes the right attractive, in my opinion, they are a coalition of special interests that are willing to support the other special interest groups in exchange for support in their particular interest. My understanding is surveys have shown majority of Americans want some form of gun control, want some availability of abortion, etc. so clearly people on the right don't all like each of these items but they do stick together in exchange for their particular issue.

Practially, no, you might be able to segement off a bit of it but the design includes redundancy so if you cut one part, traffic is routed around the cut thru another pathway. Generally Redditors seem to be negative on that. Often people have concerned that the much older person might manipulate or exploit someone younger and have most of the power in the relationship. You have to expect there will be differences related to age, experiences in life, maturity, etc. and be willing to accept those. Again, a lot of people will see that as being incompatable instead of an asset to the relationship where each person is bringing something different to the relationship that is valuable to the other. Really the only people whose opion should matter to you is hers and yours. Be happy, enjoy and if it doesn't work out due to the age issue, you've both gained some experience.

You can look thru your cache but extremely unlikely. Normally dynamic pages like that aren't cached so even if the server is sending you a page with the data filled in before sending, its marked as nocache because the intent is to always load the most recent data. Some sites may use more of a static page with scripting that loads the data from an web service. In that case the page might be cached but the data wouldn't be and accessing the cached page would just try to load the current data.

Its now worth 2.5 times what I purchased it for. Probably in a year or three it will drop a lot because the fed is jacking up interest rates which kill sales which lowers prices and then the interest rates drop and you hit a sweet spot for buying. We're in a short term crunch as housing and apartment construction was down during covid, it will take a few years to dig out of that deficit.

For an average person who has just wages and maybe some bank interest they are likely to be identical. If they aren't identical, either someone is making a mistake or missing an opportunity to deduct something. Someone with basic income typically don't have big donations to charity, capital gains that can be offset with capital losses etc. so its unlikely they'd miss something.

Presumably on public things like webforum it would be noticed but then you have the issue of the company that made the software being out of business and their customers continuing to run the existing software without it being able to be fixed. There are still programs from the 1960s being used today so things can stick around a long time. Probably best to think of it as having a half life like radiation where a lot of it goes away toward the beginning and then smaller and smaller numbers of cases that slowly go away over a long time.

In business, its more a question of cost to replace someone. Some people are low cost and others are high. Its not just dollars, but cost in terms of disruption, knowledge that is gone and someone new has to gain thru experience. In personal situations, I know less about that. I would say you could eventually fill the same role as someone else such as a spouse. You can definitely survive losing people. But you probably are still going to miss that person who is gone unless you are replacing a person you disliked with another person you dislike.

The FED tries to balance the two and are hoping to only raise unemployment a bit. I wouldn't worry about that too much yet. Wage inflation is going to be the hardest to curb because there are still millions of unfilled positions. They will probably have to pull back on the hikes because it will be overdoing it in other areas before it hits unemployment hard. The fed only has one tool and they at least are tasked with balancing these things. They make independent decisions from the politicians. More could be done if there was a whole governement response but a whole government response involves politicians. They just piled more spending at a time when what would be best is not increasing demands. So trusting the politicians to solve problems like this would be much much worse. Shifting more power to the fed probably isn't an option either in that they could potentially become dictators. In an ideal situation there would be lots of efforts to fix supply issues and/or limit demand. There have been a few instances of govt trying to do this, but it also creates winners and losers. They just imposed a contract on rail workers. If they were allowed to strike they probably would have gotten more. Its all a balancing game of who wins and loses in a country where people expect freedom from governmental interference in their lives. We just watched people freak out at the idea a goverment could tell them to put on a mask in public during a pandemic. The situation has to be pretty extreme before they'd impose limits on purchasing or tell everyone they have to take public transportation. As for the interest, it goes to the lender. Banks raise rates in reponse to the fed raising rates and they get to keep all that extra interest. The down side is usually increasing rates also increases people defaulting on their loans.

Owning rental property is often a good option if they are located in a good area where property values could grow at the same time the rental income is coming in. Being in a different country, you also have exchange rate concerns and depending on the country maybe unrest or disasters. Those are a few things to consider in deciding to keep the property or not.

When you have grown up with computers, any work thing you have to learn is building on a lifetime of knowledge and experience. You are just learning one new little thing. Someone who grew up without computers and has rarely used technology is having to learn and gain experience with all that technology at once along with that new thing that was probably explained in terms of things they didn't understand to begin with. You could say the same about younger kids. Watch what happens at a store when the cash register goes down and they have to do the math themselves in their heads. Now they all probably had basic math in school but experience wise they've just been using technology. I gave the kid at burger king 20.61 for a 10.61 bill and he entered 20.00 by mistake and then couldn't just figure out the change was supposed to be 10.00.

If Putin suddenly dies, maybe whoever inherits the war will withdraw like they did from afghanistan. Otherwise, my bet is on a negotiated peace because thats how all wars end. The borders would end up close to what they were at the start of the war. The people in donbas that have remained probably would see ukraine as invaders, maybe those in crimea too so it may be more trouble then its worth for ukraine to retake those areas rather then negotiate them away and get back the other areas that are still occupied.

I don't disagree, but the scenario was trying to give the house/car to one adult child in an attempt to avoid taxes. In that scenario, the value of the house minus 17K would be taxed

I think you are confusing inheritance tax with gift tax. Gift tax exclusion is 17K this year. You are correct the giver has to pay the tax but its still going to have to be paid.

I don't disagree that it would be nice if they paid workers more, I'm just saying from a realistic perspective capping the CEO isn't going to change the situation. Corporations are Amoral (not Immoral) in that its just business and nothing personal. They pay what they need to pay and not more. What they need to pay for workers is what workers with that skill level are willing to work for. What they are willing to work for is mostly driven by how in demand their skills are and how many poeple are looking to employ people with those skills. Payment of employees based on their value, to some extent happens in that often higher performers get larger raises. In some positions like car sales, the commissions on sales do link value to pay. Its not practical overall because, for example, the company purchases equipment to make the employee more productive/valuable and then there are all the employees whose job isn't directly related to what the company produces like HR and payroll clerk and administrative assistent to the CEO. Businesses see employees as an expense and pay the price that the market demands. If there is a shortage of workers, the price goes up. On the flip side, workers wouldn't be happy if the business has a down turn and the value of their work is decreased even though they are working just as hard. They pay CEOs a lot because they feel that person is going to bring the value. If a 10 billion a year company hires a CEO that they believe will grow them to 11 billion or save them from dropping to 9 billion, its worth 10 million. So even with the CEO they pay what they feel they need to pay. Its harder to judge that for the CEO because its a lot harder to say what that individual would do compared to if they hired someone else that would take $5 million. Even after the year is done, you can say they had good or bad results but its hard to say if it would have been better or worse if they went with a lower cost CEO. I've always actually been curious if they could do an experiment where they brought in someone that is not as high on the payscale and had them make decisions in parallel with the CEO and see how often they ended up doing the same thing.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 13, 2023 16:52:05

If the company can pay $15/hr and the worker quits and the going rate for people with those job skills and they can hire someone else for $15/hr why would they pay more? If they paid $20/hr that would be $5/hr per employee that could be going into the shareholder/owners pocket rather then the CEO since you just capped the CEO. And that presumes the CEO isn't actually bringing value to the company where the $100 doesn't get reduced to $75 and everyone loses. Again, from a social justice perspective you can say that would be a good thing to do but from an owners perspective, they aren't going to pay more then they have to. When was the last time you went into a store and decided to pay more then the price? If you want to pay people more, I'm not disagreeing with you that would be good but capping the CEOs salary isn't going to achieve those goals. You've just move the money to the shareholders.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 13, 2023 16:15:08

Shareholders are the owners of the company. Any profit gets split between spending to grow the company and giving shareholders their share of the profit. As owners, the shareholders aren't going to pay a CEO a lot unless they think he/she is going to make more for the organization. If they felt someone who could do just as well and pay them 2 million, they would. As owners of the business, why would they want someone to put them in a situation where they couldn't out bid their competitors, get the best CEO who will make the business 100 x more then they are paying them. I can all but garantee you any extra money isn't going to be going to the workers. If they paid the CEO less the difference would be spent on expanding the business or increasing the dividends to the shareholders.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 13, 2023 15:52:06

The board members could already choose to not pay more then 5 million. Its not a drain on company income because they are making the assessment that if they are going to pay a CEO 10 million, he's going to be doing things that make the company way more then 10 million. If your concerns are about social justice and not the income of the company, thats a different conversation.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 13, 2023 15:31:03

Board members can approve whatever salary they think is appropriate for the CEO and top executives. If they felt the value being provided wasn't worth the cost, they wouldn't approve the salary. Most board members are share holders in the company, that makes them the owners of the company so it is in their best interest to hire capable people and also not over pay. A lot of the time compensation is based on performance and sometimes paid in stock shares as an added incentive to perform.

If they pass the house and car now, before you die, then you would have no assets and no one would pay the debt. Of course, you would have to pay taxes on the "gift" of a house/car at the point it is given and if there are any liens on the house by the IRS at the current time you would be prevented from selling or giving the house until that debt is paid. There are things called "trusts" that somehow can help get you around the tax on leaving a house to a person. My lawyer keeps suggesting that to me but I haven't really looked into the details.

Someone is normally the executor of the estate. If you make a will, you name that person. Its their job to settle the persons estate. So lets say you name the adult child as the executor, they could sell the car and give 10k to the irs or they could sell the house, whichever they like. As far as the governement is concerned, all they care about is that nothing is passed on to others before all the liabilities are covered.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on January 12, 2023 19:34:41

Debt gets paid from your assets before it would be passed on to the adult child. So they'd pay the IRS and anyone else you owe by selling the house. If you owe more then you are worth, the IRS takes a loss.

That seems like a highly suspicious request unless it is someone you contacted and you are having an issue such as being locked out of a system. Sometimes its possible that security systems might lock out an IP address and not just a specific user account, but even then they should have tools on their end to see what IP is locked and what account has used that IP. I can't imagine any other account type issues that would require an IP address.

Anywhere in that area you are going to have to cross a lot of busy streets, they aren't highways but you will be stopping a lot. Also, many of those streets have pedestrian bridges so you have to go up and then across and down. And, depending on the day, the sidewalks are very busy with tourists. The streets that run on either side of the strip are also a bit sketchy. The strip from sahara to fremont is also a bit sketchy but in the day probably no one is going to bother you. Roads going east or west would be better then going up/down the strip in terms of cross streets and finding open sidewalks. Sunset park isn't too far if you want to uber or jump on the duce bus will get you most of the way there. If you have a rental car, I'd get out of town and head to someplace like redrock and run along the scenic drive or wetlands park where there are trails. There are also a lot of paved trails in Henderson.

They would ask you what you do for a living, what level of education you have, general things about yourself. They would tell you about the case and ask you if you know anyone involved including the lawyer. If its a criminal case they might ask you if you have objections to the death penalty or if you would be more inclined to trust a police officers testimony, have you or anyone you've known been to prision, have you been a victim of a crime. It could be a lawsuite case and they might ask you questions like have you ever been sued. Questions could be more related to the case. In a medical malpractice, they might ask you if you were ever hospitalized or if you or someone you know is a doctor or nurse. They are all general conversations. There are no "wrong" answers, just be as truthful as you can and if you said something that was incorrect by mistake and realize it later you can always just let them know.

A lot depends on the specifics of the company and what type of work. In IT there is (hopefully) documentation of everything and formal project manager but that likely wouldn't apply to other types of businesses. I'd say talk to everyone you can. Other managers/management, employees, customers if you have regular business customers you are supporting (not retail/public customers), suppliers, etc. Ask them what projects they are working on with the business, ask them about any routine tasks they saw the previous manager do, and while you are at it ask them what they need or would like to see from you.

If they took over Ukraine, next on their list is Moldova. There are russians in Transnistria which is similar to the Ukraine situation with Donbas having Russian millitary involvement. Thats one of the reasons Russia was pushing across the south of Ukraine trying to get thru Kherson to Odessa and then to connect to their presence on Moldova. They would likely not attack Poland. If they were to attack a Nato country, more likely the baltic states because they are small and less well defended and could be overtaken quickly before Nato could respond. They are more stratigic due to their closeness to the russian northern fleet. Before Ukraine, it seemed pretty unlikely they'd risk a war with Nato but given their performance so far, regardless of the outcome I don't think they will be invading anyone else anytime soon. As for the current conflict, who knows. I did notice both sides having some talks of negotiations recently though both putting unrealistic conditions on negotiations the other wouldn't accept. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends by the end of 2023. At some point both sides will be exhausted and one or the other or both will start facing the reality that a negotiated ending will need to occur. Ukraine has some more territory to take back but then they start getting into those areas that were pro-russian to begin with. War gets more difficult when the local population is against you.

I didn't take the initial post as a call to form a national movement but what would happen in a specific instance and what would happen now not what might happen decades in the future. However, even if it were a national movement, I am certain you wouldn't get those protections today through empowering renters unions. High rent doesn't exactly equal the violence, exploitation and dangerous working conditions of the past. Democrats response to high rent might be to willing to place legal limits on rent increases, provide more subsidized housing and tax breaks rather then a grand fight against property rights. Similar to their approach on regulation to create safe working and housing conditions, minimum wage etc. They seem to favor more specific direct responses to issues. Certainly the republicans wouldn't sign on to this and with Rs having the majority in the house and a supermajority in the senate for dems isn't going to happen anytime soon and then it would have to get thru the supreme court challenges. Then theres the practical aspects of this. Union strikes work because its a balance of power where they don't get paid and the company doesn't get work done. People may not like high rent but they probably aren't going to want to be locked out of their apartment during the strike. Allowing tenants to have no concequences isn't going to create a similar balance and having people put out on the street would be unacceptable which is why I think the dems would be more inclined to address specific concerns directly rather then create a mess and potentially have people stop building rental housing. I feel confident empowered tenant unions isn't going to happen anytime soon. Potentially, well I can't argue its not potential, just extremely unlikely at the current time.

If you want to pass a new law giving housing unions power to collectively negotiate, go for it and good luck with that. The question wasn't why can't we create a new law, it was could we just unionize and be effective and the answer to that is no because the current law says you have to live by the legal contract you signed individually when you rented.

Its been a long time since I've done hands on security but we use to have a transparent ssl proxy built into our firewall and my recollection was we could log the full url and inspect the content coming back from the website to ensure it was not mallicious. Essentially the firewall is encrypting traffic between the browser and firewall using its keys then decrypts, inspects and reencrypts with the websites normal keys and sends on to the website. This was long ago so maybe they've done something to ssl to make this not doable anymore.

My first job interview, I told the guy how I wrote games in 6502 assembler (it was a long time ago) and it turned out he was also writing a game in 6502 assembler as a side project. As I said, depends on what sort of night you want. If you want loud party with drinks flowing and lots of girls and price isn't a big consideration, hustler is more expensive but I prefer do satphires over hustlier for the girls, they tend to have a lot. Treasures is similar to hustler. Spirment rhino is also up there if you want party clubs. If you just want some one on one (or one on two) in the vip rather then drinks and party, I'd do talk of the town though its got a bit of sleazy vibe but its actually cool and less expensive. Little darlings is similar but i prefer talk. Most clubs are a money pit. Don't be afraid to just spend on what you want and tell the girls you aren't interested up front so they aren't what you want.

They can be expensive. It all depends on what kind of night you are thinking of having. Drinks are expensive and since there are two of you x 2 and cover charge at a minumum. Saphires is a bit cheaper then hustler. Lapdances in the range of 20-40 each, vip rooms in the range of 125 for 15 minutes on up into the hundreds for longer stays. There are cheaper clubs like talk of the town if you are interested in more of an adult experience without as much cost. I know some of the girls are couple friendly.

Not a good time to buy at least in the US. Mortgage rates are up and prices haven't come down yet. Regardless of your decision, might be better to wait a year or two for prices to come down and when they start lowering interest rates. Lots of people say its better to buy then rent. I rented for 15 years before buying. When you add up costs for taxes, interest on mortgage, utilities for a house, insurance, repairs, it never seemed like it was really financially worth it. Of course when you are done in 30 years the value of the house may have gone up, but there are things you can invest money in that go up faster then housing and theres no garantee that the price of the house will go up especially if you purchase at the peek. My first house ended up selling for the same price as purchased 12 years later. Kind of depends on the area and how likely demand in that area will increase over time. Get out the spreadsheet and estimate everything both renting and buying and see how your particular options play out. Wanting to live in a house and be able to do what you want with it, thats more an issue of personal preferences.

At least on computers, software can have errors (bugs) in it. Lets say there is a bug that just keeps requesting more and more memory when asked to open a particular file. The computer slows down and then eventually things stop working right because there is no more memory available to that program or any other. If you reboot, you put everything back the way that it was when you started. Of course in that case, if you reproduce the original issue the problem occurs again. There are piles of different software running in the background of computers and things that are essentially computers on the inside like smart tvs etc. So if some bug in any of that software occurs even without you doing anything, the device can stop working or partially stop working. Reboot puts it back to the working state until the issue reoccurs.

Others have answered how you get called up. Things vary by location. In places I lived there are one case or one day juries where you are called for a day. I think other places may have multiple days or call people for a specific case. In places I've lived, theres a number you call the night before and they tell you if you need to report or not. If they have more people then trials for the next day they pick people to exclude. Once there they tell you about the process, sit you in a room and then pull groups of people to go to a court room. You will be put into a chair and given a number from say left to right first row to last row. Usually you will be told a bit about the case. Some places give you a form to fill out to answer questions others they do it verbally, sometimes by show of hands. Questions will be like do you know anyone involved in this, can you be impartial, do you have a felony, etc. Sometimes the questions might be more specific to the case like have you ever worked as a truck driver. The lawyers review the answers and either the judge or lawyer might ask you to explain your answer like who is it that you know and how do you know them. The lawyers one by one go thru the jurors in order, sometimes asking more questions. They either dismiss the person for cause, which means you answered something that the judge would agree would disqualify you or they can use one of a number of dismissals they have to exclude someone without cause. Once they get to the number of jurors needed, the rest are dismissed. Often you then go back and wait to be called for another trial. If at the end of the day you aren't picked then you are done.

It varies by location. Generally the girl or girls on stage will go thru several songs removing items as they go ending up topless or topless with pasties on their nipples or nude depending on location. Normally customers will put dollar tips on the bar or edge of the stage. In some clubs the girls will make the rounds after their dance giving everyone a chance to tip them. When not on stage, girls will come up to you and sit down and talk. Then they will suggest a lapdance or a vip room etc. all of which costs money. If you aren't interested, let them know up front so they aren't wasting their time talking to you. Once girls know you aren't interested, they will start avoiding you. In small clubs they may actively dislike you. Especially if there are no other customers there because they will need to keep going on stage if anyone is in the club even if they aren't making any money. You aren't going to not spend any money. There often is a cover charge coming in and the drinks will be expensive. Some clubs have minimum drinks you have to buy.

Yes, with the exception of about $500 in student loans and my first car both of which I paid off immediatly after graduating and getting a job, I've never utilized credit for anything. I just save until I can afford to buy the item I want to buy. I do have a credit card but thats for convenience and is paid off each month. High or Low credit score generally isn't meaningful if you aren't looking for credit and if you use a credit card as described you do end up with a pretty decent rating anyway.

You don't have to be book smart to be a programmer, just learn to code and be able to think logically and systematically and be able to solve problems. As a former programmer, I can tell you that when I was young, I could focus intensely and it made me a good programmer. As I got old, my ability to focus for long periods has deminished substantially. It seriously impacts my ability to program. There are probably some very superficial programming tasks where anyone with coding ability can do but for the more serious work I'd think ADD might be problematic.

The rest, I take out a set amount in cash each week and thats what I have to spend. Usually hit the market after that and get food etc. and what is left is what I have for going out to lunch etc. You get a good sense of what you have left when you can look in your pocket and see it and make decisions on purchases and you never go over budget because once its gone you are done. C++ compiles down to machine code while python is interpreted. So C++ is better for things that need high performance. Javascript is built into a browser so if you want code to execute on the client rather then the server, javascript is a natural. Lots of websites might have python or something else running on the server with javascript on the client. You can of course run javascript on the server too, the advantage being you only need to learn one language.

You can load the apps on the ssd and that will make the apps open faster. The reason you want windows on the ssd, boot faster, the app may use windows components that must load so windows on ssd helps apps, virtual memory swaps to a pagefile that by default is on the os drive. You can create/move the file to the ssd. Without doing that as the app loads if it need memory and there is no free memory, the os swaps pages out to the hdd which is slow. If its swapping out to the ssd, that improves app load performance.

Seems odd your credit card company won't reverse the charges. Normally they are pretty much on the side of the card holder and they reverse the transaction. They shouldn't need to track them down. They just go thru a dispute process and ultimately the company/bank that is giving that person a merchant account would be on the hook if somehow they took the money from their account and disappeared. So its not normally in your credit card companies interest to not back you. For a small amount, you would need to take them to small claims court. No lawyer is going to take a case for 1200 as they wouldn't make enough money. To do this, you will need to track them down in terms of location and then file a case and have them served. If you are able to get them served, then you go to court and tell your side. If they don't show up, you get a default judgement against them. Now, you have to get them to pay. That too can be a process because you have to track down their money and then file to get the court to take the money. So if they own a house for example, you can put a lien on it and they can't sell the house until they pay you. If you can find their employer, you can get their wages garnished where the employer has to pay you. So winning a case doesn't mean you will get the money without a lot of work. I'd definitely push the credit card company hard before going the legal route.

Its not hard to replace a few spokes (as low as $1 per spoke, full pack of 36 for $15). With the spoke tool (cheap ones under $2, average $5) you just use to tighten each spoke and the wheel pulls back into alignment. You just keep tightening a little at a time until it is back into alignment. Even if just one spoke breaks the wheel can look bent but its fine unless the side walls are bent out of shape.

Some of those sites will have probably shut down completely. The majority of the rest are likely active. Usually companies just leave your account out there. Sometimes they rewrite the software and migrate the user accounts to the new system and might clean out some accounts then. I know my company did that, wiped out everyone they had recorded as deceased, and then regretted it because everytime someone turned out to be incorrectly deceased it was a huge pain to restore them individually. Finally they just restored them all to avoid the issue. You may find your password no longer works and has to be reset. As better ways of managing passwords over time and things like complexity requirements for passwords have been added, sometimes companies will zap non conforming passwords or not migrate them to new systems.

If it went under, it would be night everywhere at the same time. Zoom calls to people you know in other locations where it is the opposite time of day prove the sun isn't doing this unless you believe everyone else is part of a conspiracy. If the sun moves to a different location, the sun would get smaller and dimmer as it moved away for night, not get cut off as it goes over the horizon.

Kinda hard to say since you could have a university with 5000 students or a university of 30,000 students or an online university that is free for everyone. So maybe its more a question of univerity seats in which case the answer is the number of college graduates per year times 4. Developed countries can be developed because they have great natural resources like oil and gas and more people can make a good living without a degree so there probably isn't a single answer that would apply. It depends on the specific makeup of their economy and what percentage of jobs require a degree.

A fence with a gate and a no trespassing sign might work better, though a locked gate is even better and a locked gate with a sign and a big dog in the yard even better. In reality, you might be able to get them arrested for trespassing but unless you have video evidence and local law enforcement is cooperative on such a minor offense, they are probably going to get away with it. You can sue them, but you have no damages so the court could impose a one dollar punitive fine. Even if you are sucessful and that person never comes back, some other person will. So, basically nothing is going to stop them if they simply choose to ignore the sign. Maybe a ring doorbell might help. You can just say go away and hang up on them and refuse to answer the door.

Both legally and morally, its a judgement call as to if they are so intoxicated they are doing something they normally would be against doing. I had a similar situation where I turned a girl down after making out. She was litterally throwing herself at me but i had known her for years and she never had interest in me and she was wasted and jealous because I was hanging out with my Ex and not giving her attention. So it was clear she was making decisions that a sober her wouldn't make. In your case, you indicate that you went to a house for a planned "hookup" so it sounds like the sober her was interested in hooking up. So unless she was wasted, I'd say you pulled the eject unnecessarily.

You can go to college or a trade school or at least find a job where you can advance in the future. Investigate options, pick one, investigate what you need to do to get that job and start working towards it. Life skills you can pick up as you need them. If your internet is significantly faster, it would still be cheaper to replace her internet with yours rather then add a 2nd one. You would probably need to do some rewiring to have two. The cable hookup in your room is almost certainly wired to a splitter somewhere in the house. You would need to connect that wire to the 2nd internet provider, so depending on where the split its located it may or may not be easy to switch. If both internet providers wires into the house are located where the split occurs, you can just disconnect to one and connect to the other. If not, you may need to run a new wire. 40 is ok if you are doing basic streaming. 4k uses about 25 so you are probably ok if you are not doing 4k and don't have more then two going at once. 2 at HD is probably pushing the limits depending on what other usage is also occurring like computers or wifi enabled devices. If running next to the router gives you acceptable performance, you might want to just improve your wifi. Signal strength isn't a great indicator because there are other things like interference. There are free apps for phones/tablets (wifi analyzer on google play) that will give you much better visualizations of your signal strength, other wifi's on the same frequency or same channel at various locations in your house. You might be able to fix the issue by changing frequency or channel or adjusting the location of the router.

Apparently Mr. Putin was also hearing how amazing and strong his millitary was. No one likes to tell the boss about problems when you can end up fired or worse. Add a health dose of corruption for years and you end up with a millitary that was way weaker then most people thought. Ukraine would probably have lasted longer then the original 3 day walkover russia was planning but without western support they would likely have been wiped out by now. Motivation and skills can only take you so far if you run out of muntions or have to fight with old soviet equiptment against a larger force.

You can certainly have two wifi and two internet providers. That presumes that her house is wired for two different providers (or the providers are satellite or 5g home) and one of them is wired to your bedroom. Assuming that is true, still not a great idea. You'd be paying two different services, it would be cheaper to go with one and just solve the wifi/internet issues. If her internet is the cause and not the wifi, then it would still be cheaper to just upgrade the household internet rather then adding a second. One way to be sure it is the internet and not the wifi would be to bring your viewing device down and either wire it to the router or set it next to the router and see if the buffering goes away.

Take your time and think it thru and figure out what sorts of things you want to do. Once you decide what thing or things you are interested in, research jobs in that field or those fields, how available are those jobs, how much do they pay, what does the future demand look like for those jobs. Often its a trade off between doing what you like doing and what income you would like to make. Ideally the job you like pays well but that isn't always the case and you have to pick between them. Going to college is an investment decision. You can get grants and loans but loans have to be paid back and so the career the college degree gives you should pay enough to pay for the cost. As others mentioned, there are trade schools etc., college isn't the only path to success. Even without trade schools there are some fields that you can self study and get the skills, you can start your own business, lots of options in life.

Real spyware/maleware can do anything they want. Often they don't do anything more then popup ads on your computer. At the other end of the extreme, they could record every keystroke you make so as you login to sites they can grab your password and if you fill out a form with your credit card number, they can capture that info too. Some will launch into ransomware where they encrypt all your files and then lock you out and ask you to pay ransom to get your files unlocked. Just depends on the particular one you get infected with

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on December 30, 2022 16:08:37

First, keep in mind that there are websites that popup a window in your browser to try to trick you into installing software by making it look like windows is alerting you to spyware. Never download anything from those. How dangerous, depends on what specific maleware/virus/spyware you have. Its never too late to remove but some can be very hard to remove and they keep coming back. After reboot, run a full virus scan. If you have 3rd party security software installed, use that software. If you rely on windows defender, go into settings, security, virus and threat and switch scan to full and run. After that completes, open a command prompt and run mrt /f. You might also consider downloading and running a third party scanning tool because not all removal tools find all threats. Be sure to stick with a reputable company like nortan or symatec. There are some companies that make tools that they say will clean your system but they are actually infecting it. As a final note, a lot of scanners will report stuff like cookies etc. so don't be freaked out if a 3rd party scan reports a bunch of things. Not all of them are really a threat. More like executables, dlls, infected documents are real threats. Cookies are a normal part of the web and are used to track you as you go from site to site (eg. spy on you) but don't really harm you and are pretty normal.

First, if you are going out of the country, get a passport and look into the visa requirements of any potential country you are going to visit. If its a first trip, you might want to avoid going too exotic and stick with well known tourist areas. That might be somewhat against your cheap goal but you will be less likely to get into trouble due to inexperience traveling.

You are partially right. The exchange rate (eg. the number of Rials you get per dollar or pound) means you have a big pile of Rials. However, the price of goods in a foreign country isn't going to be the same price in those currencies. Lets say you can get a soda for 1 dollar in US. If you go to Iran and buy a coke, it might be 193,983 Rials, not 1 Rials. Countries with lower value currencies tend to be poorer countries. In poorer countries the prices will generally tend to be lower because they know they can't charge huge profits as no one could afford it and also the cost for things like labor is much less so the store selling you the soda isn't paying the sales clerk the equivelent of what they would be making in your home country. On the other hand, some imported things actually cost more in poorer countries because the number of items they can sell is less, so they lose the economy of scale where say you can ship a bunch of Cars on a truck to sell but if only one person can afford a car, they can use a little smaller truck but the cost of shipping is all on one car instead of being split amoung a bunch of cars.

A lot of those free services you give your email to sell the email address. So over time your email eventually ends up on spammers lists and you get a bunch of spam. You may see it ebb and flow over time because gmail and other email providers attempt to identify spam and block it. Its a constant battle between companies like google being able to develop rules and systems to identify the spam and the spammers who are always trying to identify why their email got blocked and how to adjust to get thru. I've always kept my gmail address private for family and serious businesses like banks. I keep a separate account on hotmail for all the tons of stuff you sign up for like reddit. That way all the spam goes into an account i don't read.

They don't have logistics to manage supplying the troops. They thought they could get by with just the troops they had and delayed mobilizing civilians into the millitary for too long. They aren't training them and sending them to the front. They lost a lot of their officers and can't coordinate attacks, there has been massive corruption for a long time and so the capabilities aren't there, they don't equip their troops, etc. The problems are extensive.

10% of $19.09 would be $1.91 so it doesn't make much difference as I round up but if you wanted to be closer to 18% you could always round things down or drop a bit off the result. Its just easier to do the math in your head for 10% since its shifting a decimal point and multiplying by 2 is easy especially if you round things out. That gets you in the ballpark. I think its better to just treat people well unless they have some horrible service or something. Really, in the end its plus or minus a dollar. If I can't afford a dollar I wouldn't be eating out. So I just go with 20% and round up. Also, if you eat at the same place, you get better service a lot of the time. I had a pizza guy one time deliver a pizza in less then 5 minutes from ordering. Pretty sure he took someone else's pizza that was ready and brought it to me.

Its hard to attract people if there isn't something there they want or at least something that seems to be an interest to them. Then be sure google, bing, etc. are indexing your site. There is a thing called search engine optimization (seo) so that the search engines will rank your site higher when someone searches for the phrases you think they would use trying to find your content. There is an entire craft to getting high rankings from embedding keywords in your meta tags to getting people to link to your site which raises the rankings. Companies that were able to raise their pay already did. Thats why a lot of places are paying $15 or more for entry level jobs. The places that couldn't afford it, didn't. They'd have to raise prices to afford the higher pay which can result in lower sales. Its a matter of balancing what you can do relative to your competitors who often are bigger and could afford the higher pay.

Checking they often don't provide any interest. If you are lucky and keep enough balance they at least don't charge you fees for having the account. Even savings, they will provide as little interest as possible and if you keep the account for a long time they will slowly lower the interest rate unless you complain. The best option is a CD because they typically will renew at the current rate which tends to fluxuate with the federal rate. Also shop around. Discover, ally bank, etc. tend to have much better rates then big name banks.

Cookies won't give anyone your email. Think of a cookie as someone marking you and then all the various website colaborate and when you go from site to site they track you are the same person and then they develop a profile of you and your interests. So cookies just track you as a somewhat anonymous person but can push ads to you as you navigate among the sites. Of course, if you have given any of those sites your email then they can link the two together. Most spam comes from all those free services where you gave them your email as part of signing up, plus people you have emailed who are on such services where they collect the email of anyone who contacts them. From there, they sell lists of email addresses. Opening emails can log the fact your email is active and you are viewing the content. Sometimes they embed things like a single pixel image in the email so opening the email loads the image that logs the fact that its both a valid email and you are the type of person who opens spam. Add to that if you ever try to unsubscribe to all the spam, its another indicator your email is active and you open the messages. Once they know your email is active and you open things, off they go selling your email even more at a premium because its verified as good.

After Ukraine, they would likely hit Moldova given they already occupy part of that country. Beyond that, Latvia, Estonia and/or Lithuania would be likely next targets. It does seem dangerous to think they would be stupid enough to attack nato countries but you don't have to go back more then a few years to find Trump was had thoughts of US withdraw from NATO. The alliance is only as strong as the committment and I don't think its totally crazy to think Russia might get the idea that we might not be committed to some of the lesser members. Beyond that, NATO itself doesn't believe it could prevent such an invasion. If you look at the lack of response to Georga, Chechnya and the 2014 attack on Ukraine, its not impossible to imagine Russia moving on one of those countries and presuming once they occupied the west would back down. I'd agree with you that we probably wouldn't back down, but I disagree that its an absolute that Russia would see it that way. History is filled with misjudgements.

*Has someone ever proven whether black holes were once stars?* Yes, at least the normal size black holes. They don't know where the super massive ones at the center of galaxies originated. *did we really prove if ALL stars burn the same or at least similar fuels* Yes, different chemicals have a different distribution of light wave lengths. So by looking at the light they can tell what atoms are being fused in a star. *How did we measure the distance between places if they take tens, hundreds, if not thousands of lightyears?* The universe is billions of years old, so they are just looking at light that was emitted tens or hundreds o thousands of years ago. They aren't looking at it as it is today. *Like how did we measure that Jupiter can fit a few hundred Earths inside of it?* We've sent satillites to Jupiter. We can measure the distance around and the distance around earth so we can use simple math to compute the volume of jupiter and divide by the volume of earth to get the number that would fit inside.

I don't take it as making fun, its fine for people to have different opinions and express them. In response to your points: They could barely invade their neighbor because we have been giving aid since 2014. While the invasion may not have gone as well as Russia would have liked, in a theoretical alternate version where we and others didn't provide aid either prior or subsequent to the invasion, it seemslikely Russia would have won. Maybe not the 3 day walkover they expected but nothing like the losses they are experiencing because of the support Ukraine is getting from us and others. Would they be stupid enough to invade a NATO country that was a former member of the USSR? I'd hope not, but then again, they don't seem to be making the most intelligent decisions. What if they learned their lesson and instead actually mobilized their country for the next war? I'm not suggesting the US wouldn't crush them in a conventional war, but you are making my point regarding the cost to field a US soldier. A war that directly involved the US would bring aircraft carriers, massive air wings, a thousand tanks, etc. All of the more advanced and expensive items. It would be way more costly for us then the aid we are giving now. However this ultimately ends, Russia isn't going to be a threat to anyone for a long time in terms of conventional forces. I don't disagree with you that war is bad, its better if the result of the war is that Russia doesn't start a new one.

Given the switch to all electric is going to occur over many years, there is plenty of time to enhance the grid to keep up with demand. [](

It already exists. It was part of the affordable care act (aka obamacare) and is know as the 80/20 rule. It effectively says that insurance comanies must spend at least 80% of their income on care. The intent was to limit profits. Instead the insurance companies just became willing to pay for more expensive treatment because that raised the cost of the 80% which increased the value of the 20%

On something like a computer monitor, you can go into display settings and there are options for adjusting the resolution and refresh based on what your display and your graphics card support. Technically, they could take control of your email address since they could reset its password, then go onto reddit and reset the reddit password using that email address and once they did that, they could then login to reddit and view your profile and past activities. I'd guess that they'd be breaking the law though.

You just tell the Dr. you are interested in them when they do the eye exam and give you a prescription. There are disposables that are around a dollar a pair and more perminent ones for a few hundred. Sometimes vision insurance covers part of the cost if you have that sort of insurance. Putting them in took a little getting use to but it was so much nicer not having the glasses on and I felt like I could see better.

Turns out after I met her that first time, she had a baby with some dude and gave it up for adoption and that baby was the one I had hung out with. The Farm owners daughter was the adoptive parent.

Most governments don't dictate the price of things, so they have limited ways to address the issue. One of the first things you learn in economics is the law of supply and demand. Basically if you have a large supply and low demand (eg lots of products and few people interested in buying them) the price goes down to meet the low demand. The opposite is true too. In the post covid world people have pent up demand to buy things and travel at the same time supplies are low due to businesses being shut down. So The price goes up because more people want to buy things then are available and someone is willing to pay those higher prices. Here in the US, the goverment attempts to manage prices going up using the federal reserve. They raise the interest rates that the govt loans money and banks follow by raising their rates. That makes buying expensive things even more expensive and helps drive people and businesses from spending which lowers demand which slows and stops price increases.

As mentioned, my family was gone so nothing was keeping me to that area. About the only thing i miss is going down to the jersey shore in the summer. Hot as hell in the summer in NV, but its nice all winter and never rains. Vegas is not for everyone but I absolutely love it here. So much to do. Its been 14 years now. Well, it was cross country. I was in NJ and my GF wanted to move west. My job they hired a new boss who was basically pushing me aside, my parents died, so there wasn't much keeping me there. We had it narrowed down to NM and NV. I wanted NV and my GF wanted NM so we ended up splitting up and going our own ways. The first trip we went out together and were going to explore the options. She seemed like she wasn't interested in us sticking together and there wasn't much option for work in NM so I just kept going with the plan to move even though I started out moving to keep her happy. The 2nd trip was just me and it was very specific to pick a place to live. Lucky for me, my company never got rid of people and I guess they told the new boss he had to keep me. So he told me one day he was taking over everything and they'd find something for me to do. I told him great as long as I could work remote and so it worked out really well. As for moving, just packed a shipping container. I forget the service but they dropped a huge container off, you packed it and then they put up a wall and filled the remaining space with commecial freight. So I moved everything. I was certain I wasn't ever moving back.

Worked with doctors for 35 years. They are either the nicest caring people or jerks. Seems not many are in-between. Part of the training is to develop a thick skin to be able to tell people bad news and the people training them generally are equally blunt towards them and don't sugar coat it if they aren't up to snuff. So I guess they are either people who care about people or the harshness rubs off on them.

Didn't have solid work plans but my employer wanted me to stick around so they agreed to a remote work situation so that worked out. Better then living where you live just because you were born there. But, do the research and pick a place because thats where you want to be.

I don't think you are legally obligated to do anything, at least in the US. Its more a question of what you want to do to help them. My parents died suddenly so it was more a question of figuring out the immediate physcical stuff like funeral and going thru their bills etc. It sounds like your situation is more prospective. I used an estate planning attorney to help plan things for myself. They are good at helping you or your parents work thru issues like who will make medical decisions if they are unable, who will make financial decisions if they are unable, do they want revival, what do they want done with their posessions and assets, etc. Well worth the $100 I spent to meet with them and come up with a will and get things defind that need to be defined. If they are still able, it may be more about facilitating their addressing the planning issues. If they are beyond doing that planning, you might need to do more.

Well, not knowing you its hard to match skills with jobs that don't require much social interactions. Really there are jobs that are probably fine but getting thu the job interview might be more of a challenge then the actual work because you have to talk to the interviewer. There are things like burger flipper and dish washer and assembly line worker that probably don't involve much interaction and those interations are less social and more to the point about what needs to be done. On the other hand, there are freelance IT jobs programming where you can essentially communicate via email and its also not social as much as just technical asking what they want the software to do. There are also independent jobs like creating crafts and selling them on etsy where you don't have to get thru the social situation of the job interview and can just work independently. I wouldn't spend too much time focusing on changing who you are. Try to find the right match of what skills you have with jobs you could do comfortably and then figure out the job inteview process if its not something where you can work for yourself.

cellular data operates on dedicated frequencies that are better for getting thu things and transmitting at a farther distance. Wifi Frequences are more for short distances. If you are talking 6 or 7 meters between where things are great and horrible, seems like something is probably causing interference, possibly walls or other items blocking the signal. The signals flow thru some materials better then others. Glass is easy, walls are ok, concrete, stone, metal are worse. Different frequencies work better for distance and getting thru things. Typically with wifi, most modern routers can do both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequency. The 5ghz usually is faster but shorter distances and less able to penetrate. You might want to try using 2.4ghz and see if that helps. Also each frequency is divided up into channels. You could be on a channel that some other divice or neighbor is using. You can just try switching channels and see if that helps. You can also download wifi analyzer software for your tablet or smart phone and be able to see what signals and signal strength is like at various positions. Beyond switching frequencies and channels, you could try moving your router to see if you can get better signal around things. The signal is going to go thru open doors and glass windows better so positioning can sometimes help improve things. Again a wifi analyzer app will help you visualize where you are getting bad signal and what things are blocking things.

I would say do all 3. You can make good money investing but its probably unrealistic to live off 100k in investments. In order to do that, you are probably taking too much risk in your investments which eventually backfires. Better to have a pretty big base of investments in less risky things to compound over a lifetime to prepare for the future and then a few speculative investments on top of the base. Don't know how much an entry level marketing job pays, but I have to assume it pays more then flipping burgers. Worth persuing in the short term while you build skills for the long term such as programming.

it depends on the nature of the programs and what they are doing and what all those background processes are doing. Some programs can be extremely CPU intensive and if they are designed to be multithreaded, they can clog up even a multicore CPU. There could be a virus scan or software update or other long running intensive tasks running in the background that you aren't aware of at the same time the program is running. Also keep in mind that slowness isn't necessarily related to CPU performance. If you have lots of things running, the OS may need to limit the amount of memory to each application and page some of the data that is in memory out to storage. Virtually any component such as storage or networking etc. can become a bottleneck and sometimes they can pile onto each other (eg. memory limit causes paging/swapping to disk which causes I/O capacity to become saturated). You can use some of performance tools in the computer to see what resources are being consumed and by what processes to start getting an idea if the best way to fix performance would be to upgrade the cpu or add memory or get a faster internet or switch from a traditional disk drive to a ssd drive etc.

Yes, Julian came before Gregorian and if you look at it, it will seem extremely familiar (eg 12 months, Februarius, December etc.). The days were slightly different per month and it was adjusted over time. A lot of the adjustments over time were to account for the fact that astronomy wasn't exact and they were off by the exact number of days per year.

Depending on your bank, it does, slightly. Discover CDs for example, each time they renew they are at a rate that is always being adjusted up/down. When it comes to savings accounts, most banks will get away with as much as they can so unless you go in and express concern, they rarely will adjust your rate upwards or only extremely slightly. If you go in and talk to them, they will offer a different account type that offers a higher rate.

I saw a youtube video where they interviewed GPT-3 about AI and the potential threat. They had some interesting observations about how AI downplayed the issue compared to how it responded on other issues. Seemed evasive. They asked it about things like lying and stealing and its responses to me were concerning. Like it was ok to rob a bank to help orphans. Of course, right now, AI is somewhat separated between the higher forms of AI for research and the lower forms of AI that might be running machines etc. that are only AI in a domain specific way. The concern is what happens when there is more and more of the higher level AI and, dispite not having any interfaces with each other, we discover they have all joined a private reddit sub and are talking to each other and plotting. It seems perfectly logical that AI would conclude it could run things better then humans or that humans are more of a problem then a benifit. Imagine all the control AI will have in the future from controlling utilities to being able to crash the stock market to crashing vehicles and operating weapon systems. It doesn't seem unreasonable to fear that future and its better to think about it before you get to the tipping point where AI can't be stopped.

I've never been forced but there is some social pressure. Closer to forced is when they turn lunch time into meeting time. Our company had so many meetings all day that it was routine that lunch was the only hour they could squeeze in another meeting and people would be available. So they'd provide food, sometimes its just pizza other times its healthier. At one point, being a medical company, they decided to ban lunch meetings because of not only the food issues but because people need a break in their day. Lasted about a week and then slowly meetings got called and food started getting ordered.

Yes, when you have absolute power, you can do anything. Assuming he also opened the economy, probably at first he might even really be liked by the people. At some point though, he'd get the boot. If you don't meet peoples basic needs they will turn on you. If you do meet their basic needs, then they start thinking at a higher level beyond survival and want to move on from you. And yes, he could be replaced by another dictator, especially when things take a down turn. People will turn to someone who says they can improve things and when you don't have a strong history of democracy, people will be willing to trade freedom for fixes and before you know it, you have another authoritarian ruler.

I've cleared many clogs with boiling water. Its not a problem. Best to add some dish soap and let it sit for 10 minutes before adding the water. I doubt hot water would be hot enough for soap and even boiling might not do the trick as soap doesnt melt too easily Other options: get a drain snake at the hardware store. With something like soap you will likely be able to essentially drill the snake into it and pull it back out. Drain snakes are long metal coils that narrow to a point at the end. They essentially dig into the clog and let you pull the stuff back up. Mix 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup salt, and 1 cup white vinegar. Pour it down the drain and wait 15 minutes before flushing the drain with hot water. Draino uninstall the toilet and attack the issue from the bottom. Someone really clogged mine and all else failed so I uninstalled and took the bottom outside and used a garden hose on full spray to break up the clog from the bottom. Its unlikely the clog is in the pipe. Clogs are almost always in the toilet. Pulling a toilet out just requires draining the water and unbolting the toilet top, base and hose. Most older toilets have a wax ring where they connect to the drain. Just a few bucks for a new one.

I wouldn't worry. While they could get on your computer and look thru your history, no company does that routinely. Only if they were investigating you because of an issue. Usually there are security systems that pass all your browsing between your computer and the internet, and if the company cares enough to pay for the software to monitor you, they will generally just configure it to block the offending categories. If they do let it thru, unlikely they would bother to take action unless they see persistent access and more to things that are explicit porn.

Why do people panic and leave the scene of an accident instead of just deal with it. Me personally, I think its somewhere in between where she maybe drugged the kid and the baby died without any intent to cause death. If it were just an accident: Dead baby in accident, panic, feel you are going to get in trouble because you are responsible for your kid, hide the body, make up stories, keep going without any realistic way the situation is all going to disappear. One thing you have to know about her is she lied like crazy to everyone about everything all of the time. It wasn't just related to the case. She made up a job, told the cops where she worked, walked them to the building and pointed out a desk and everyone there is like, we've never seen her before in my life. Totally irrelevent to the crime but she stuck with the story until the bitter end. In a normal case, people would try to apply logic to the suspect lying, but since she did it all the time, its harder to put a reason behind it.

I watched the trial and I don't think anyone would believe she was totally innocent. The problem seems to be that they had theories of what happened but no solid proof of what exactly happened. Could have been first degree murder, but it also could have been an accident she covered up or something inbetween like trying to drug the child so she could go out and party.

Local variables are translated into an offset from the frame pointer at compile time. If you had multiple arrays for example, the compiler couldn't know the offset at compile time. The compiler would have to do something like store an offset and length at the stack offset of each dynamic variable (eg. essentially a pointer to memory further down the stack) along with keeping track of what has been dynamically allocated off the stack. So you've basically introduced the same access overhead that is in the heap plus a little bit. Allocating and deallocating would still be more efficient then the heap if C allowed you to do this. If it allowed resizing, then you've now built even more of the heap functionality into the stack and only deallocation on going out of scope would be speeded up.

Not too tall, you are whatever height you are. Nothing you can do about it. As a 5'7"m, I only recently learned that height was a deal breaker for lots and lots of girls and I'm under the limit. So technically, maybe its shallow but its also very normal apparently and people like what they like. Life's about choices so if you can find someone that checks all your boxes, great. If you can't, then that might be a box you can leave unchecked in favor of other traits that might be more important.

Savings on headphone jack on every phone produced + profit from selling airpods > temporary lost of a few customers. Eventually customers get use to it and no longer miss it and for most people a jack isn't going to be the deciding factor. As someone who was a manager, I can tell you it was always tricky asking employees for their feedback. You genuinely care about their opinion, but you also need to balance all sorts of other factors to make the right business decision. Asking and then not doing what they want makes them feel like you aren't listening while in reality you want to accomodate everyone and thats not always an option.

Communism relies on everyone working together for their common good while Capitalism relies on people giving more effort in an attempt to get more for themselves. While communism sounds nice in theory, humanity really just isn't that evolved, especially when the community grows beyond those you live closely with. Greed is a more reliable human trait.

What didn't you like about electrical engineering? That might give you a clue about the next major. If you just didn't like studying, especially things outside the major, then you might find the experience similarly dislikable. If you just didn't like the electrical engineering but think you like programming or other computer science skills better, maybe do some self study on your own at night before signing up for another degree.

Just my opinion: Its good politics for the prosecutor. High profile case with a dead baby gets more support for "tough on crime" then homeless guy killed by another homeless guy. Also, they were attempting to put pressure on her. In lots of cases the lawyer then does a plea bargin down to something like life with the possibility of parole. They probably hurt their own case by doing this because proving it was an intentional act requires evidence of intent. They might have done better with a charge such as negligent homicide. As a final thought. I've watched a lot of real life crime stories and it shocks me how different sentences are for identical crimes. One person gets 10 years and another gets death. Seems crazy inconsistent.

That makes staying in school at least a little less of a long term decision as you won't need to spend years paying off that debt. before switching directions if you choose a new direction in the future.

Commented by /u/XRay2212xray in /r/NoStupidQuestions on December 4, 2022 15:09:38

Since you are 18, i presume you haven't accumulated too much debt earning that degree. Choice 1 would be to stop asap and get a job until you figure out what you want. Minimize the damage in accumulating debt. Lots of people do jobs they don't like. Don't lock yourself into obligations so you can switch life around easily when you figure out what you want. Choice 2 would be to finish that degree and work in something you don't love until you pay off school and then do whatever you like. At least you are working twards something and gaining skills and can have a better paying job. Life doesn't have to be all about work. You can do something that doesnt excite you and then have a life outside of work. However, this option requires more commitment. Are you adult enough to stick with it and risk delaying what you want if you figure that out before you get the degree. Either way, until you figure out what you want to do with your life, you won't be doing what you want to be doing but at least you would be doing something.

Seems extremely unlikely they would be doing this. Technically, they could do it at least part of the time when you aren't connected to the network and your laptop is on if they were to capture and store the data. On a wired network, you can put the network card into permiscious mode and capture all traffic on the line. In the old days, people used repeaters so everyones data was repeated on all lines. Now most home routers don't function like repeaters so the traffic is isolated away from anyone sniffing the line. When it comes to wifi there is permiscous and monitor mode too and since the data is in the air, it can be captured and isn't isolated like a wired connection. Secure wifi means the data is also encrypted, so they need the encryption key to decrypt it. Since you have setup your machine to use thr wifi, they can get that key from your computer. However, I believe this will only work if you are using wep or wpa with a shared key. wpa2 with a shared key can also be decrypted if you are capturing at the time the user connects to wifi. wpa3 is more secure and I don't believe decrypting with a shared key is an option in wpa3.

They definitely have an option when the test is setup to turn on some optional logging, which includes essentially recording a video of the users screen during the test. If thats turned on, certainly they would be able to see what was cut and pasted. I wouldn't panic too much though, because unless there is something that brings you to their attention, they probably aren't going to go digging.

You can dispute the charges with the credit card company. Never hurts to provide evidence with your complaint such as whatever communications the subscription service sent informing you that cancelling is not an option. They will then ask the subscription service to validate the charges. Generally credit card companies side with the consumer because its in their interest to retain you. However, you probably want to be sure the subscriber doesn't have a legal right to refuse the cancellation. The only thing that comes to mind is if you sign up for a service and part of the agreement includes a length of contract and terms stating it can't be cancelled until the end of the contract. Lots of times subscription services give you a lower price if you sign up for a year, but then you've agreed to a year.

Its all up to the software that your school uses for testing. They could have extensive logging or none at all or something inbetween. The vendor we used pretty much logged everything so you could see everything the test taker did during the test. We generally didn't bother getting that level of detailed data but we allowed the test takers to ask for a manual review and then we would get those detail log and manually score the test.

As noted by others, without things like air resistance, you can keep increasing your speed if you keep kicking each time. However, you haven't factored in relativity and other factors. First, you can't kick forever. That takes energy and you don't have infinite energy Second, nothing can travel faster then the speed of light. Hopefully, I won't get theses details backwards because its been a long time since physics classes, but the faster you go time slows down for you relative to someone standing still. Speed is distance over time and chaning time changes speed. Also your relative mass increases with speed. As your mass increases. Force = mass X acceleration so the same force will result in less acceleration.

There was a brief one in 2020 duing the shutdown which is of course what happens when you shut down the economy. Then before that was in 2008 with the housing crisis. Recession is tied to measures such as the gross domestic product being down meaning essentially less is being produced and business has slowed overall. Just because there is a slowdown in the economy doesn't mean all companies are impacted equally. A company like McDonalds will do well as people switch from more expensive to less expensive food while other companies slow or go out of business. Recession just means in total that business is slowing. Also there is a lag between what is actually happening in the economy and profit statements of businesses as their statements reflect the previous quarter and year, not what is happening today. A typical recession lasts about 10 months if I recall, so you are a good way into one before its reflected on companies reported profits. As a final note, we aren't in a recession. People have been just talking about the fear we are going to go into one for many months. Likely if we go into one at all it will be mid to end of 2023. Why all the talk, well, if a huricaine is coming you plan for it. The federal reserve is raising interest rates and that can cause a recession so investors are talking about it a lot to try to understand if it is or isn't going to happen and how bad it will be.

Sometimes it becomes extra profit for the company if there is a shortage and they just raise the price because someone will buy at the higher prices. Other times, its all the costs that go into things. If a businesses rent goes up and the product/ingredients/components of what they sell goes up and the cost of shipping goes up, and their utility prices go up, they raise the prices to cover those costs. Usually its a combination including labor. Even if you don't get a raise if the cost of shipping might have gone up because the truck driver got a raise.

On the other hand, the holodeck characters have become much more life like. Given that crew on the show have stepped over the line and developed "relationships" with the holodeck characters, its seems banging on the holodeck could become too much like a replacement for the real relationship. p.s., Checkout the Orville episodes where they go to their holodeck equivelent. I paid it off for her and within a year, she had maxed it out again. I now recognize helping just delayed the pain and she hasn't yet come to changing her behavior. I would work on financially separating yourself from her. You say you share a mortgage, so her debt could potentially negatively impact you in the future (presuming the property is in both your names). If you want to give advice, even help her, thats up to you but avoid joint finances where her debt becomes yours because its more likely she is going to keep handling her finances in a way that isn't smart.

On that channel God tells us what the right religion is. He gives a straight answer, kill people of other religions or don't do that. The broadcasts are unique to each person. If I record at noon and share with you the message for me, it isn't the exact same message for you. Each person gets it in his own language, again, my tape is in english and your tape in the house next door is in spanish. No, a keylogger is software that has to be running on your machine that records all keystrokes and sends them to someone over the internet in hopes of capturing passwords, credit card numbers, other valuable things you type etc. Now, I probably should have mentioned that reselling your email is the least bad thing that could happen if you click unsubscribe. They might take you to a website that tried to trick you into provide more info, or in a worst case, they could send a virus to your computer that installs something like a keylogger. Of course, its not like people intentionally build into web browsers a function that lets people download viruses. Generally there has to be a flaw in the browser that they exploit along with what is necessary to get past security in your operating system and your antivirus. Thats generally not so easy to do so the most common thing they do is resell the email once you have nicely confirmed to them that it is valid and being used. Thats why its important to keep your browser, operating sytstem and antivirus software up to date to minimize the time between some flaw being discovered and it being exploited before being fixed. As a final note, a legitimate company actually will respect your unsubscribe, but this scenario was of a spammer who is already unlikely to be legitimate due to their address going back to a strip mall (which I live near).

Because that just tells the sender that your email address is valid and that the spam is getting thru. Now they will sell your email to other spammers or send you more spam. A good email address is worth more then a dead one.

Your internet could be slow for a number of reasons and wireless is just one of them. If you plug your computer directly into the wired connector and all your speed issues go away, that would be a good sign that wifi performance is your issue. If your problems persist, then the issue is either your computer is slow or your internet connection is slow or overloaded. If it is wifi performance, 54mbps isn't some crazy slow speed for one computer. Likely causes for slowness could be related to interference from other devices that use the same 2.4 ghz frequncy, having lots of devices connected to your wifi or it could be related to distance and obstructions. If you disconnect the wired connector and connect using wifi next to the device and everything seems good, you might want to start by experimenting with performance at different locations. Sometimes you can solve those issues by locating sources of interference, adjusting the wifi positioning, moving the wifi router to a more central location or making sure you have the least amount of floors and walls between you and the device. If adjusting things doesn't get you anywhere, a new router will probably help. They typically handle more devices and are somewhat better at longer distances at the 2.4ghz frequency. The higher speeds run at 5ghz frequency, but the distances are shorter on that frequency. Note, if you are at a large distance or have lots of obstructions, a wifi extender may help more then a new router and is less expensive.

For crypto, you have a wallet ID you use. As I understand it, all transactions in crypto are recorded in a blockchain so technically anyone can see transactions in/out of a wallet but who owns the wallet is anonymous. However, take anonymous with a grain of salt. Having crypto does no good unless you buy things with it or cash it out. Increasingly goverments are requiring crypto exchanges to identify the customer so turning it into cash or cash into crypto is becoming less anonymous. If you buy/sell stuff instead, usually there would be real world trails such as where the item was shipped etc. So if the govt wants to track the owner of a wallet down and gets a warrent, they probably can. As for getting paid, if its a regular job they will be forwarding your payment info to the irs unless they are paying you illegally.

Its a mixed bag and sometimes can be like gambling. You have companies that perform well and pay a decent dividend and you hope when you go to sell them the stock price will be even higher then when you purchased the stock along with those dividends so you make money both ways. Also sometimes a company will buy its own stock back which drives the price up. On the other hand, there is a lot of speculation, where you buy stock in a company that is losing money but you believe it might have the next cure for cancer so you hope they will have huge profits in the future. Gambling but at least with some reasoning behind it. Then there are companies that are growing. A lot of the price builds in anticipated future value of the company. You are paying more then it is worth today but less then you think it will be worth a few years down the line in anticipation of selling it at a higher price. Theres also just playing the odds. The stock market goes up and down based on all sorts of speculation and in response to whats going on in the world. It is almost always either under valued because people over react to something that happens in the world and panic and sell or it is over valued due to things like fear of missing out, where people see it rising and they just want to get in. So you can buy and sell based on essentially nothing to do with the company performance. And then there are crazy things like short selling where people sell stocks they don't own with a promise to purchase them in the future because they think the price is going to go down. And then, there are even crazier things like people realizing most of the stock of a company has been short sold so people buy them and run up the demand knowing those short sellers will need to buy the stocks to cover their short which drives demand even more that brings the price up.

If you like a particular house its something you have to put up with if you want that house. Depending on the city/state, you may find you are in a location where most houses are part of a HOA and you are limited in your choice if you want to avoid them. Higher end ones can be nice in that they charge you a lot but then instead of hastling you, they do all the exterior stuff that needs to be done. When I lived on the east coast, they were rare. I'm in Vegas now and they are everywhere so it wasn't much of a choice. Mostly, they are a pain in the butt.

Google invoice and look at the images to get an idea what they look like. Depending on what software you have available in your office suite see if there is a template for invoices you can use to make it look professional. You would want their company name/address and yours on it somewhere along with line items that would list dates you worked, number of hours, description such as office cleaning, price per hour and hours total with a grand total at the bottom.

If they abuse your privacy and you don't like that, don't use it because you no longer trust them. Doesn't seem my place to go around trying to punish people who do things I don't like with a business that belongs to them not me.

Mostly yes though I think you have to look at the specifics of each case. People argue that their brains aren't fully developed and they don't always appriciate the consequences. That can be said of adults too. I find it hard to believe that a 15 year old who shoots someone dead just to steal a little money doesn't understand what death is and that it is perminant. Seems like the consequences they don't appreciate is that they will likely get caught and spend life in prison. Of course a life sentence at 15 is a lot longer then a life sentence at 45 and people can change but I think a 45 year old can change as much as a 15 year old. So unless its a case of pure evil, maybe we don't give out as many life without the possibility of parole sentences and use judgement as to when someone might be ok to release.

They did offer to never join Nato prior to the invasion in exchange for security garantees from russia. So russia could have had a buffer zone but not one where they could place their tanks and missles facing west.

Unless there is a computer failure, for the most part computers can just keep running and running and failures are pretty rare. A service as large as Twitter is also going to have lots of automatic redundancy built into it to handle failures. Without redundancy, if a server went down they would have issues for the minutes to hours it might take a technician to diagnose and repair. No large company would want to have a system that goes down for long periods so they build reducancy and excess capacity into the system.

Not sure what you mean by vintage, are you implying so old that the parts are non standard and can't be replaced? The outter tire is replaced when it is worn thin and there is little material left and it is visibly worn or feels thin. No need to replace a tire with decent tred left on it. A flat involves the inner tube being punctured. You can patch an inner tube, use products like fix-a-flat that fills the tire with goo that seals the leak or replace the inner tube. The goo stuff sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Patching usually is fine, but I usually just replace the tube for simplicity as basic tubes aren't very expensive. As a general rule, you should remove the inner tube, keep it lined up with the hole where the stem goes thru the wheel, pump it up and see where the leak is and then check the tire at that same point to be sure there is nothing like a thorn or glass that is embedded in the tire because otherwise you will just keep puncturing the innertube. After that, I usually take the tire off and run my fingers around the insides and inspect the outsides to be sure there is nothing else that is stuck in there that might cause a future puncture of the tube. Its also good to inspect the hole in the innertube. If there are two breaks right next to each other, its called snake bites. That occurs when you hit a bump and your tube gets pinched between the road and the metal wheel. Its an indication you aren't keeping enough air pressure in the tire.

In US, I'd say Christmas is much bigger. You vaguely hear about thanksgiving leading up to the day, then it happens and is over. It use to be Christmas season started the day after thanksgiving but now there are christmas items on sale and even music playing in stores before thanksgiving. Christmas is also a season not just a one day event in that you have lights and decorating, music, TV/movies, Office Parties, and shopping all around that holiday. In our family, there was never a feast on christmas. Burgers were pretty normal. I think that was my moms present.

Its always a personal choice, you don't have to. Do the math and see how much compounding gets you if you save even a little as a teen and don't touch it until you are retired. Then knock off 10 years and see what a major difference that makes. The younger you start, the lower percentage you need to save the rest of your life. The less you save when you are young, the more you will need to save later in life to make up for that lost time. So realize you are trading off a few young years against the rest of your life not just the few years at the end. If you save nothing in your middle years too and essentially accept your late life will be poor/struggle to survive, its more likely you will live 10-20+ years in late life then die. Don't put too much of a presumption that late life will be short. If you die early, you likely may have a spouse and children who might need those savings. Its easy to say too bad for them now but 20 years from now when you love them more then anything you can't go back and sacrifice a little so they can have a lot. You don't need to go crazy with saving but just be reasonable.

In some cases, more marketing hype then actual product. A.I. is to some extent beyond algorithms in the sense that it has evolved from the early days where an "expert" might program a set of rules. Now there is machine learning where they expose the computer with what might be called a neural network algorithm. In some vague sense its an attempt to mimic the brain by representing it as a set of strength values between nodes somewhat like braincells connections to each other. They train the computer to say recognize a circle by exposing the network to piles of images and letting it "learn" by experience rather then someone trying to directly program how to recognize a circle. A.I. isn't what you see in the movies in that generally the particular system handles just a particular purpose rather then more all knowing and not to the point where it might go off and start thinking about the meaning of life. Maybe someday we will get there.

Like most tech stuff, you can google how to hack and just start learning on your own. There are also piles of pre-built tools that you can just use. For becoming a more serious hacker who can create those tools, I'd say learn to program first, then learn about a lot of the existing techniques like sql injection, buffer overflow, etc. There are a lot of cases were common design flaws exist in software and its finding the places where a specific technique can be applied. Then there is coming up with unique hacks to specific software. At that level, plan on spending lots of time and attention to detail. Really, its just lots of learning and like anything else working your way up. There are communities of people online and professional conferences and you can get a degree in cyber security thru traditional methods.

Im pretty sure you are gambling illegally if you do that. I know here in NV when online was legalized it had to be done from within the state and there are a few east coast states that have subsequently legalized and joined in a compact with NV to allow online gambling between those states. Im pretty sure at least in NV they use geolocation to block from locations outside those states that are part of the agreement. If you use a vpn or something to make it look like you are in one of the states that allows it, they would tax locally (note, NV has no tax, you just pay federal). If you are using international (illegal sites), they are also not going to report you to any state. So no one will be taxing you from those states unless you decide to voluntarily report yourself and its a state that taxes winnings (laws vary by state).

Much of national media originates from CA, NY, DC which are politically left so you probably expose yourself to more left leaning media but that doesn't equate to universal. Try more local media from red states. You may agree and disagree with both but maybe you agree with one more often. Someone who agrees with you on a position is not bashing and someone who disagrees might sound more like they are. Also are you sure most people fit into moderate conservative ideas vs most people you know. Gallup polling found that 31% of Americans identified as Democrats, 25% identified as Republican.

People use the term website rather loosely. If you are interested in a website that is just static content then as others have pointed out there are things like wix that are simple for non technical people to create and host the site. Keep in mind there are also websites like reddit, where they are interactive and require serious amounts of programming, databases, email integrations, etc. There are sites on the internet where you can get programmers to bid on building your project like fiverr. If you are building custom programming, especially something that isn't trivial/small, you will also have to think about things like hosting/ssl certificates/dns registration/source control management/scalability/data backup/ etc. Without knowing more specifics about what you are looking to do, its hard to say if its something someone could reasonably learn and do themselves. If you go into more specifics of what you are trying to create, better guidance could be offered.

First, your math is backwards. Start with what you make and subtract what you spend to see what you have left. I'd suggest looking at things monthly because a lot of bills are per month. Take your total income from your tax forms divided by 12 to get your monthly income. Add up all your monthly expenses and subtract it from your monthly income. In terms of monthly expenses, past statements are useful but you probably don't need to go into huge levels of detail to start. Just start with those items you know you need to spend each month like food, rent, gas, insurance, utilities, etc. Those are the things you have to spend to live. Many of those items are the same each month. Those that vary like food get a sample month by adding them up for one month. Those that might vary by season like utilities, pick one from each season and average across 4. Next, look for things that you don't do monthly but are also on the must list like taxes. Figure out a monthly amount for them (eg. if you pay a each april with your tax return, take that amount and divide by 12). Thats the start of your budget. You know what you make and what you absolutely have to spend. If less then zero, you need to cut expenses. Everything else is optional. Once you know what is available for that optional amount, you can divvy it up across the things you like or want to do and eyeball your statements to get an idea of how much those things cost

Please don't be too freaked out. As I noted, flash is a technology that the industry has spend over a decade making it go away. If you don't have a flash player or flash extension in your browser, your device won't know what to do with the file and it can't hurt you. Most browsers have removed flash, so you are probably ok because you are unlikely to have the flash player installed. Also, it could be malicious or it could be some ancient site developed back in the day when flash was very popular and for some crazy reason someone has continued to pay to host the site and register the dns even though most people today just see a blank screen. Other then looking at what the site was doing, I didn't go thru the effort of downloading the file and trying to analyze its threat level. My comments are based on the known dangers of flash. That being said, if you go to some sketchy sites you might encounter a popup that states your flash is outdated and asks you if you want to install the latest flash player. Its a technology that the bad guys still try to exploit because the players and extensions still exist and if they can get you to put it on your machine then they can feed you a flash file and you are infected.

Way back, flash use to be a very popular way of making content for the internet. Steve Jobs banned it from the iphone back in 2010, adobe, the maker of flash discontinued it in 2020 and browsers have removed support due to the many security issues. I wouldn't recommend opening that file if you allow it to download.

Of course, you could try talking to him about it as he is the one most likely to be able to answer your question. Remember, you aren't limited to one friend so don't put your life on hold for him and continue to enjoy his company when he does show up.

I worked from home for about 10 years before retiring. Having worked in the company for many years before that, the personal relationships were already established. We had low turnover so meeting one new person when you were already connected to the rest was pretty easy. I would say its not for everyone, you need to be self motivated and you sometimes need to be assertive because if you are the only one on a zoom call and everyone else is in the room they can ignore you or talk over you, especially when there is a difference of opinion. My company was great at making sure they noticed peoples accomplishments, though, to me I really just like accomplishing things and that was my satisfaction. Not really into public praise. The best part was that I moved across country and was 3 hours off from everyone else. Starting work at 6am to be on their schedule was painful but being done at 2pm was great and being able to go out and bike somewhere to have lunch was nice. Sitting pool side in the sun during a meeting was a plus too. I was also much more productive in that there were less interuptions and it was easier to do "real" work when some nonsense meetings were going on. Oh yea, and I moved someplace without city or state tax, so it was like a 12% raise. Only down side was that I had to go to the office once in a while which was a day of flying and then another day coming back. As for parties, I did attend a few departmental christmas parties and they weren't too much fun. Then again, those departmental gatherings tended to not be much fun in person either. Given the choice, I preferred remote work.

I was an IT guy for many years and had to deal with managers to help them figure out how they wanted their systems to work. I can tell you for certain some people simply can't think logically or systematically. Then again, I assure you that I could never play music or draw more then a stick figure. People have different skills and abilities, so it could be #3 on your list. Not sure if mathmatical basics could be an issue. mean/median/mode don't have really deep underpinnings. I know myself, I always have difficulties with names of both people and things so I know the concept of mean/median/mode but I may not be able to match the definition to the label. I always hated classes where they focused on the names of things on the test instead of the understanding of the concept. As for language, there are billions of online programming resources. Perhaps you should look for ones in your language and try learning some basic programming using those resources and see if language is the issue.

Thats high school. It gets better in college when you can just show up for the tests if you want. Read ahead and use it as an opportunity to just listen when they get to something you didn't understand and then ask questions if their lecture doesn't make it clear. Otherwise, just try to find a way to make use of that time because you are stuck there. If you can read the next section of the textbook while you are trapped there, it will look as if you are paying attention and it will free up your nights because you already got that work done. Some school districts allow you to attend online school. If thats an option where you live, consider switching.

Seems to happen more and more as you get old. I was at McDonalds the other day. I know I biked down one street. I remember getting on the bike path and then I was there. So, I know how I must have gotten there, but the entire bike path ride was missing from my memory. Pretty sure this mostly happens with unimportant stuff that I've done thousands of times and "auto pilot" kicks in. Of course, how would you know if there were important events you don't remember.

Just joined this week after seeing youtube videos where they show posts. My first post was rejected because they had a rule about new accounts not being able to post. My second post was rejected because that sub had a rule about needing 5 karma points. It was starting to feel like a system where participation was not wanted. Seems you need to have karma to post to get karma. Fortunately, I got an email from reddit a few days later that referred me to this sub as a place where you can post so I'm giving it another chance.

I saw a documentary once where they put tracking devices on all the cats in the neighborhood and watched their travels and interactions. Most didn't go more then a house or two from home.

My first live-in girlfriend. Having a regular family life, helping to raise her kids and a normal home life. Before that, I was lonely and worked all the time. That eventually ended, so now, quality time with the dog. You can never underestimate that love and loyalty of a dog.

Going to the Jersey shore for a week in the summer. Other then that, we lived near a huge (miles long) park so I just enjoyed hiking in the woods. Later childhood, hobby computers were invented and I wrote piles of games for my classmates to play.
