I was told to guide and limit expectations to avoid frustration. Being aware of this has helped me out. Accepting the duality of my ideal not meeting my reality has allowed me to realize that I’m ok in either case, ie: the ideal or the reality of the situation. My ideal not being congruent with my reality is what disappoints me, therefore my perception becomes just that: a belief system and not an actual emotion that I’m reacting to, but rather a situation that I’m responding healthily to.
